Very possible Falk has told Monroe to just chill and not say ANYTHING to the press, and that Falk will keep pushing for the highest offer, but will settle in mid to late September and likely sign with the Pistons. If they were going to sign the QO to be totally free next year, wouldn't they have already done that?

It's a weird year for player movement. Normally rosters would be pretty well set at this point and you might only see a random move here or there. The Love domino was a huge one and a lot of teams that could be in the market for Monroe's services were likely going to wait for that one to fall first. Monroe's camp has to be hoping that a team like Boston or Phoenix will chase after him now that they know Love is off the table.

Or Falk doesn't know what year it is and doesn't follow the league and doesn't understand that a big who can't shoot or defend the rim is going to inherently have a limited market.

Falk works for Monroe, not the other way around. Falk is doing exactly what Monroe wants.

Yes and no, Monroe pays him and his knowledge of these situations to negotiate and get what he needs. Kinda like when you hire a lawyer and just sit in the court room with your mouth shut while he keeps trying to get a better deal.

Bring back the Moose!

Man I hope we can lock him up now that the Love deal is done, bring Smith off the bench and shop the hell out of him.

The new CBA will make the climate of these deals.

Monroe & Drummond's deals will both get done.

If I were SVG right now, I'd probably let Faulk + Moose know that come August 15, if they haven't agreed to 4 years $56 million that deal is coming off the table so we can pursue other options with our capspace.... if they feel like they have until October 1st to make a deal and nothing will change with our offer than they're just going to keep waiting hoping something happens to get them a bigger deal.

As much as I think the price does not match the talent we would likely do better signing him and check into trades later than if we settled for S&T scraps now.

It's a good thing none of the posters on here are in charge of these negotiations. Patience is the biggest part of this deal. So many people want to have his deal locked up simply to say it's done. It's crazy how some people started out with 4/10m offers, and now they've grown to 5/14m just because they're tired of waiting. I want Monroe back. I'm one of the few who thinks he is a better fit with Drummond. But we're bidding against ourselves. The organization has the advantage because they don't NEED Monroe. No doubt they want him, but Smith is capable of playing that position, and playing quite well.

It's crazy how 20 days of waiting has somehow earned Monroe another 4m/yr. That's some serious cash when it comes to free agency in future off seasons.

That would be silly, there are no other options even in the same atmosphere as a Monroe.

This is business, can't get emotional. It will get done.

Oh its a total divide, personally on this board I feel most don't think Moose fits with Dre. I'm in the "they fit" camp.

Good point. The only real hard deadline is Oct 1 to accept a QO. So nothing has to happen in Aug or most of September. I think it comes close to the deadline and then we sign him for a healthy 5 year deal. I hope that doesn't include an opt out.

Go ahead and put opt outs in if he wants. In 3 years, is plenty of time to get everything else worked out. If he develops and plays himself into a max contact - Fantastic! If he doesn't mesh well with Dre as Dre's game develops, we'll know that way before 3 years and would probably trade him anyway.

If we renounce him we'd have $10 million in cap space.... SVG should be considering all options with that potential cap space right now... Talking to teams on the phone about possible trades in which we'd take on some salary in a trade.

Greg Monroe at 4 years $60 million has probably no trade value around the league so landing him for $60 million isn't a huge priority when we're not winning anything in the next 2-3 years regardless... Especially if he really prefers to be playing somewhere else.

Except in 2 years when guys of Monroe caliber will probably be easily pulling in $17-$18 just based off the new cap he'll still have trade value. This concept routinely escapes people.

If we found a team (Philly) to take Jonas we would have enough to make an offer to Bledsoe that Phoenix may be very hesitant to match. Bledsoe is still my ideal outcome, if we were to put him with KCP/Smith/Drummond we could have 4/5ths of what could be the best defensive team in the entire league.

But offensively that team would be brutal.....
