Vincent Ellis ‏@Vincent_Ellis56 1h

Final tidbit of today: Roles will be adjusted, but long-time #Pistons employees Mike Abdenour and Arnie Kander will remain with team.

Vincent Goodwill ‏@vgoodwill 26m

The team will be hiring a Director of Sports Medicine and a Strength and Conditioning coach #Pistons

Huh. I wonder if any team will try and poach Kander away now. I believe he does have his private practice based in Detroit area that could be keeping him here just the same.

Losing arnie would be a travesty.

Keith Langlois ‏@Keith_Langlois 59s

Mike Abdenour becomes director of team ops ... he's the guy who makes sure everything runs on time. SVG values that spot highly.

SVG also adding a strength & conditioning coach and director of sports med to aid Arnie Kander, who focuses now on physical therapy

Seems Abdenour was moved out of his trainer spot completely while Kander loses a lot of his area - unless these new hires will work under Kander and he's in their hiring decision making and they're there to implement his directives.

Malik Allen!?!

This guy was a career turd, offering nothing more than soaking up fouls. They fired Rasheed to make room for this guy? :banghead:

^One guy maximized his potential, one didn't. And QRich is replacing Sheed's actual title role, while Malone is the big man coach.

Besides it's more about Stan putting a staff together that he knows and trusts and that has played for him and knows what to expect, what to demand and the atmosphere and lockerroom Stan wants/expects.

Just don't know enough about these guys, but I'll trust SVG based on his track record and relationship with them. It is good to see the organization get a thorough shaking out.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I really like what SVG is doing... stamping his strategy and mark on the team... and really going against the grain.
Even the Malik Allen thing... and Hardaway/Nix.

And not cowtowing to the whole "small ball is the only way to win now" garbage.

I think the Pistons can really beat people up in the paint and shoot 3s very well also. I think this is going to be a team Detroit and especially Oakland County can be proud of
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

The Q Rich hire is a bit puzzling with the two air heads still on this roster & if he was an energy hire I would have MUCH rather kept Rasheed on the staff instead.

It’s my understanding that Van Gundy, like many NBA coaches, doesn’t believe in very much specialization on his coaching staff. In other words, there won’t be a defensive guru and an offensive specialist and coaches won’t necessarily be pigeon-holed to coach one position. Now, that doesn’t mean that Hardaway, for instance, won’t lend his expertise to the point guards on the roster. I expect he’ll work primarily with Brandon Jennings, D.J. Augustin, Will Bynum and Spencer Dinwiddie before and after practice when they go to drill work. But the coaches will share responsibilities otherwise as it relates to scouting opponents and giving input to Van Gundy during games, etc. Richardson’s role as director of player development is actually a front-office job, not a coaching one. His primary responsibility won’t be working with players on the court, but helping younger players structure their lives outside of the hours they devote to basketball. Pretty safe bet he also imparts his basketball knowledge to them along the way, as well.

This is kinda unrelated, but didn't want to start a new thread.
Pat Garrity will be our new director of strategic planning.
Not sure what that even means haha

I'm guessing it's an office job, but he may come down to the court and give the boys some tips.
