Teams always have a choice, especially since the salary cap severely restricts the amount of teams a player can freely go to once they do become a free agent and a max-contract player generally stands to lose some $25-30 million in guaranteed money if they sign outright with a team.

What's funny is now Minnesota is banking everything on the decisions made by Cleveland GMs  Bennett looks to be well on his way to bustdom and Wiggins has a better chance (statistically speaking) of becoming the next Isaiah Rider or Dajuan Wagner than he does the next Kobe or Pippen or whoever else they're comparing him to these days.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out for Minnesota.

Where's the defense? Irving and love aren't horrible on D but average players can break them down. I can't imagine the spin cycle a healthy spurs team would put them in.

Not trolling. The perception is different when it comes to extending a rookie contract and trading for a player that had been on the block for a year.

The perception is pure bias. Wade was a Miami player - and a champion - for longer than Irving played for the Cavs. He was a returning player. How is it different? Then the Love deal was agreed on BEFORE Lebron announced anything or do you really think not mentioning Wiggins and Bennett was an accident? He learned of this on his secret meeting with Gilbert when he discussed .... the ROSTER.

Look, I don't care about what Lebron did. Good for him. I believe what Miami fans are miffed about is all the crap we get from EVERYONE outside South Florida, especially the bias driven by ESPN. The narrative that what Miami did was horrible and what Cleveland did is glorious is unexplainable.

Another thing I don't get is how "trading" for a player is viewed as the ultimate accomplishment and signing a player as a free agent with cap space is a travesty.

Oh wait.. unless Cleveland is doing the signing of the free agent ...then is OK..

The thread is asking why people aren't having the same reaction. I'm answering the thread's question because it interested me. Do I think it's fair? Not really, but that's how things go.

I appreciate you having a respectful discussion with Heat fans. My replies to you were born mostly out of the points you made which shows mostly how most people outside of South Florida feel. Part of the discussion is to rebut those unjustification feelings from the outside. We can at least agree that is not fair and that's how things go sometimes.

Another point to be made is that a lot of Heat fans (myself included) really aren't upset that Lebron has moved on, whereas Cleveland fans reacted like crybabies:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z76wA9CMQo0

The Heat are much more than just Lebron James. We already won the NBA championship before he arrived and if he hadn't come we would have still competed for the prize. It might take a few years for us to get back to the top now, but we aren't going to be tanking like Cleveland did to get draft picks. We don't need to do that.

A lot of us think we might actually be better now because we do not rely on one player. Even Lebron can be shut down (remember the Pacers game?) It wasn't working anymore anyway, so it is time to start something new. I'm not an optimist but I still see us competing for a playoff spot. Once you are in the playoffs there are a lot of factors that determine your success. I wouldn't bet against any team that Wade plays on.

You Raptors fans will understand this all a lot more after you've won a championship. You have a good team too and the same chance as any of us to win the East.

So what are you saying...

Plus, it's not as if we just coincidentally came into the position of being able to assemble a trio of three maximum players. In year one after LeBron, the Cavs attempted to retool and failed. We attempted to retool after the 06/07 season showed the age and lack of motivation within our championship core and due to them folding (including the whole Shaq saga) and Wade's health, we finally mailed it in after an optimistic retooling attempt in 07/08.

Then our front office developed the plan of entering 2010 free agency with great flexibility. The only reason our teams had better records than those of the Cavs were us having a prime Wade. So while the Cavs tanked and were gifted number one picks, we kept our feet quiet, despite running a huge risk of losing one of the best players in the league. We all remember that Wade wasn't always happy during those times, at least not in 09/10 and rightfully so.

We sacrificed and suffered just as much as the Cavs, while even taking the much bigger risk while they were handed several opportunities to draft franchise talent.

I really don't get how people can be pissed at us but then praise the Cavs for doing it the right way when the right way simply consisted of a s***load of luck.

Basically this. It's how the media tells it and no matter how hilariously stupid and illogical it is, the sheep will follow. The difference is, in 2010 James was a villain and now he is the hero.
