What an awkward interview. Jonas was kinda disrespectful after the game.

So JV ended up with 19 points, demolishing Baynes, Jawai and Andersen. Defensively he was unbelievable. In the post nobody could move him, when somebody would drive to the basket he would challenge everyone with the "rules of verticality" which lead to a lot of bad shots. This game he also had a few chances to play in the post as well, where he looked much more comfortable than last season. He was patient, always throwing in a few of fakes and finishing everything efficiently or getting fouled. Got one sweet turnaround baseline jumper to go, his patented running hook and in the end of the game just did a nice spin and a two handed dunk. Overall he looks really impressive so far, much stronger and faster than he was last season.

well maybe I'm overeacting about Jonas part, but it was a very awkward to listen both to questions and answers.

Was asked if he was quicker than last year and did he do something to achive that and he answered yes, i'm quicker and I've done something.

Was asked how he would grade the performance today against Australia and he said if we look at the scoreboard it would be +12

Let's blame it on the stupid questions I guess, but Jonas still should have answered more politely.

seems ok to me. I agree that he could have been more polite, but the questions about his quickness were already asked and answered many times, hence I suppose his minor annoyance at them. The score one, think that's just him putting the focus on the team and not himself.

Don't see anything wrong with those answers. He's probably already sick and tired of answering the same questions and is kinda afraid to say anything else, because somebody from the Lithuanian media will screw him over like they did with D-Mo.

You need to listen the interview. In Lithuanian it sounds really awful. For me he was disrespectful for reporter.

Something like this from what i recall, its a bit more few words what i will write. He should have be more polite to commentator, but he did some smiles, so it isnt that bad as some people thought, at the end reporter/commentator(best in Lithunian and is known to JV himself) said "Its hard to get words from JV, he speaks on the court instead":
"You seemed to be quicker than last year, are you quicker"
JV:yes quicker.
"Are you happy with the time what coach letting you play?"
JV:I just follow coach, its coach decided, i just play how coach wants.
"From score from 1 to 10, how much you would give to Lithuania team"
JV:You see numbers up there(shows game end score)

Meh, it was a little bit awkward but really not a big deal. Jonas' job is to play basketball not to answer same questions over and over again :D

Understood - sometimes the text doesn't capture the nuance of the delivery.

Well, dickish Valanciunas is probably a better player than nice guy Valanciunas so I'm still ok with it

imho JV was a little bit confused and a little angry, searching for the quick words to say. I guess he was on a hurry to bathroom. I felt a little bit sorry for the reporter(who is the main match commentator btw). Nothing too serious there though.

Jonas was in hurry thats why such awkward interview. Coach announced which two players wont make final 12 so Jonas wanted to be with the team as fast as possible.

Yeah - Gailius (Sf) and Kavaliauskas (C) didnt make it. So now only 14 players remain.

Return to Toronto Raptors
