ESPN has some sort of vendetta against all Atlanta sports. If healthy, we're 3-5th

I'm conflicted. 42 wins seem low. But the East did get better.

Heat won't fall completely apart. Wiz and Hornets should be improved. Toronto should at least match last year's total.

DET and Knicks seem waaaaaay too low on this list. It'll be interesting to see how things work out.

Wait, what?

You've spent the last 4+ months ranting about how terrible D Ferry is, how terrible Coach Bud is, how Adreian Payne is a complete bust, etc.

And after all that, you see us as the 2nd or 3rd best team in the East?

Seriously?

Go find you something better to do. You are not adding anything to the discussion about our ranking. Discuss that not your opinions of me.

If the Hawks sweep the following teams, Celtics, Nets, , Pistons, Pacers, , Lakers, , Bucks, Wolves , Knicks , Magic, Sixers, Suns, , Kings, Jazz,

Get swept by the following teams, Cavs, Rockets, Clippers, Thunder, Blazers, Spurs

And only get one win from the following teams, Hornets, Bulls, , Mavs, Nuggets, Warriors, Griz, Heat, Pelicans, Raptors, Wizards

That should result to 48 wins

'Melo massively slimmer than I've ever seen him. Looks like he's preparing to move back to SF. I seriously think the Knicks will be much better than 37 wins.

CLE, NYK and DET have a good chance to take three of this year's playoff spots. Just a matter of who slides the most.

Melo is a stud and a top 5 player in this league to me. With that said, his supporting cast is just dreadful. Their rotation of Centers is LOL-worthy. They can't be ruled out of the playoffs, but I don't think have a better chance than ATL, Cle, Chi, Tor, Was, Char, Mia, Brk. and then you still have Detroit and Indy. The East is going to be much deeper this year with around 10 teams being able to play .500 ball or better.

I like the Hawks to win 47-53 games and win the Southeast division if we stay healthy. The schedule should be out in the next week or two and we will be able to give better predictions. I just hope the NBA doesn't screw us with another 8 game in 12 day stretch this season.

edit: I've changed my opinion on the Knicks some. J.R. Smith was in a terrible slump and played pretty damn well in the second half of the season. Amare also came around in the second half. Chandler missing like the first 6-8 weeks of the season was huge as well. I think the Knicks have a solid shot at being a low seed if Bargs, Amare, Dalembert can stay healthy and it does not take them long to adapt to Phil's triangle. It doesn't hurt that they are in the Atlantic which is easily the worst division in the East.

One thing I disagree with is how many total games the top 8 of the East will win vs what is predicted here. It looks like they just used the win totals for last years playoff teams for this year. Last year the top 8 in the East won a combined 375 games while they have predicted 374 wins for the playoff teams of the East this season. The East had a terrible start to the season last year. We were in third place after 29 games with a 16-13 record. You also have guys like Rondo, Lopez, Rose, Horford returning from injury while Love and Gasol move to the East.

I think the top 8 teams in the East will win closer to 395-400 total games this season. The West top 8 won 436 games last season.

Here's the comparison between the wins by rank of the teams last year and what ESPN predicts for this year.

LY ESPN
1. 56 56
2. 54 54
3. 48 47
4. 48 47
5. 44 45
6. 44 44
7. 43 42
8. 38 39

I understand that. I'm talking about the effect that Chandler's injury had on the team and their record last year. Chandler sustained his injury in the fourth game of the season and he returned on 12/18. The Knicks had a 7-17 record by the time Chandler returned. Starting a season off so badly can cause a team to suffer throughout the year. Especially when you have a bunch of knuckleheads on your team like the Knicks do.

atlantabbq99 wrote:The Hawks have already shown that they can dominate the Pacers even without Horford.

As for Miami, we will see how things shake up there.

The Hawk are not going to lose any key players, Teague, Horford, Millsap, Korver, Carrol, and Louis. And actually, the Hawks will add Bebe and Dennis will be one year better.

Depending on how things shake up in Miami, the Hawks could compete for #1 or #2 in the east, even without signing Carmelo or Lebron.

atlantabbq99 wrote:Pacers - The Hawks already exposed them for having chemistry and leadership issues.

Heat - Will probably retain all their stars and will probably remain dominate, but Hawks went .500 against the Heat and showed that they have weakness with 3pt shooting and rebounding.

Raptors - A team that could get better next year, because their young guys will be one year better, but they will lose Lowry.

Bulls - Rose looked horrible last year with one bad knee, he will be shell of his former self with two bad knees, no matter what Bulls homers say. Rose is spiraling down Steve Francis territory. Bulls could get Carmelo, but so what, i don't trust Carmelo led teams and in addition Thibs and the Bulls management relationship is getting worst everyday.

Nets - A team of old players that just got one year older and they could lose Livingston.

Wizards - A team that actually get better, although the Pacers did expose them for being soft in the playoffs. If Wall can turn into a leader the Wizards can do very well, but Wall has never shown he wants to lead.

Hornets - They could be better, but i think that depends on Vonleh's development, which i think is 2-3 years away.

Cavs - A team full of young talent, but they have serious chemistry issues and players are looking to get out of Cleveland.

I'm only worried about the Wizards. I really don't know why people are over hyping the Bulls again. I don't know if people have noticed this, but Thib's coaching style leads to players getting hurt and worn down.

On another board, i posted this. I'm kind of suprised how many people had the Hawks going #8 or missing the playoffs when i could see that they could be top two even before the season started, but i'm really shocked on people's opinion about the Knicks, Nets, and Derrick Rose before the season started.
