I predict these starters to end up on IR.

Nelson
Lacy
Bakhtiari
Datone Jones
Hyde

I expect these players to be injured for at least half the season.

Football Outsiders Adjusted Games Lost stat has the Pack in the top 3 most hit by injuries in 3 of the last 4 years.

2008: 17th
2009: 25th
2010: 3rd
2011: 16th
2012: 1st
2013: 3rd

Here's 2013s recap.

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-a ... games-lost

This is how they weight games lost.

With Football Outsiders' Adjusted Games Lost (AGL) metric, we are able to quantify how much teams were affected by injuries based on two principles: (1) Injuries to starters, injury replacements and important situational reserves matter more than injuries to bench warmers; and (2) Injured players who do take the field are usually playing with reduced ability, which is why Adjusted Games Lost is based not strictly on whether the player is active for the game or not, but instead is based on the player's listed status that week (IR/PUP, out, doubtful, questionable or probable).

So I don't believe they take into consideration how good a player is.

I think we've just been unlucky a few times of late and it's been magnified because the injuries have occurred to critical players. We've also been unfortunate to have career ending/altering injuries to Collins/Bishop/Finley.

as of right now, the injuries are just thinning the team's depth.

i'm still bracing for the injury to a significant starter that will directly affect their win total this season.

The oblique strain that Green Bay Packers safety Morgan Burnett sustained in practice this week will keep him out of Saturday's preseason opener at the Tennessee Titans.

Ryan Braun, Matt Garza and now Morgan Burnett. The year of the oblique strain. Doubt Burnett would have played much on Saturday anyways so it's not the end of the world.

He may just be playing for his job pretty soon. Hyde is looking good at one S spot, Richardson getting constant praise from media and coaches at his spot, a versatile 1st rounder is waiting in the wings, and Burnett is getting paid much more than all of them. I dont know how close Richardson or HHCD are to starting in the minds of the coaches but backup S's dont make what Burnett makes.

And I hope McGinn is misreading the Cobb situation. He needs to have a big year if they are going to contend. Plus that opens up a number of fantasy questions and Id like to at least have a feel for the Packers going into the draft.

I don't think there's anyway Burnett gets cut this summer. Now if he doesn't perform maybe he gets benched but even that's unlikely. If the young safeties continue to develop this very well could be his last season in green bay. It's nice to actually have some depth at safety for once.

Agreed. No point in cutting him this summer and it is nice to have depth. But if they need money next offseason.....

MMs comments after practice today

(Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams) Jordy has a hamstring and Adams (wrist). Boyd has a ribs injury.
(Rajion Neal) Not a long term injury.
(Neal) Good run decision, thought ran strong. Ran his course. Like his finish on TD run.
(Joe Thomas) Knee. Standing around the pile. Not long-term either.
(Saturday night) It was probably one of the best preseason games I've been apart of. Can't create that training environment. You do wet ball drills and all those things, even off-season. But to even play hits every part of operation. Headsets went out and players were making calls on the field. Handling the football, tackling, footwork. Great opportunity. Nice that it was still warm. Not like rain game in Chicago in '99. It's 34 degrees and you'd wish it would snow.
(Nelson extent of injury) Not long-term. Day-to day.
(Derek Sherrod) Frankly, that might have been the best he's played since he's been here.
(Brandon Bostick) Gifted athlete, basic philosophy is big target going down the field and he gives you that.
(Scott Tolzien) I thought he played very well. Lost ball, but came back and got touchdown. Wanted to see him play faster. Tempo was good.Liked the way Scott played.
(Jeff Janis) We're hoping to get him in a positon to play in a game. He's raw. He needs the work. He's a big athletic receiver.
(Anyone jump out) I thought a number of guys. Joe Thomas huge play on the kickoff and then gets hurt. Neal played well. Garth (Garhart) played well. Sam Barrington played well. Secondary did a nice job. HaHa had one nice missed tackle and came back and made soem good plays.
(Practice) Very good. Like an in-season Wednesday practice. 2-minute was competitive. I thought we ran the bll. Second and third defense didn't play that well.
(Sam Barrington) I think he was thinking too much last year. Hesitant. He's much more comfortable. Comes in and knocks ball out. Has big hit ability. I think he's just letting it go better.
(Young receivers) It's why have preseason games (to see them). I'd like to see them jump out. Clearly will come down to the end. That group has the most depth we've had here.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

yup its very encouraging with sherrod because he actually has the natural ability to be a really good tackle. If he stays healthy it would be not only huge for this season but possibly as a starter if bulaga is too expensive next yr.

I thought Sherrod had an uphill battle to make the team this year coming off of an injury, with the Barclay injury the door is certainly wide open for him to be a backup swing tackle. Could be one of the better stories this year a guy battling back after a nasty injury to have an impact.

Based on his play Sat night, Sherrod is no longer a finesse guy. He has gotten much stronger and that is key for him. Tretter also had a great game.

I couldn't really pay attention to anyone specifically other than the RB's with the terrible conditions. There seemed to a lot more scrubs than normal in the 2nd half though (not surprising). I'll definitely have a list of guys to watch for next game.

I'm happy to hear about Sherrod doing well though. Helps ease the pain of the Barclay injury.
