rookies: best, sleeper, bust

BEST - Parker, would have picked Embiid if he was healthy.

SLEEPER - Gordon (and not because I'm an Orlando fan) and Anderson.

BUST - Vonelh, Napier, and maybe Exum.

Best: Jabari Parker. I'd love to say Embiid here but I'm trying not to be a homer. Jabari will score 20+ points for the next decade for Milwaukee. It's a match made in heaven over there for him, he'll feel right at home.

Sleeper: Nerlens Noel. So many people seem to forget about him in the rookie discussion. Has an improved jumpshot (well, free throw mainly, midrange is still work in progress) and is a major defensive presence. Has better tough around the rim than he is given credit for. Someone is probably going to score more than him and get ROY, but Noel will make a serious impact.

Bust: Aaron Gordon. I don't know what Orlando is planning to do with him, but I'm not a believer. Tweener, no jumpshot, wants to be a 3, drafted too high because they wanted Payton later... I doubt his ballhandling is good enough for the nba. I don't see him ever really breaking through tbh,

Best: exum. I think he will end up as the best player from this draft. He's got some nice tools.
Sleeper: mirotic or wiggins. Mirotic will surprise a lot of people. He would have gone top 8 in this draft imo. Him andMcDrainit will take the league by surprise. Can't wait for the drain duo. A lot of people are saying wiggins is all athleticism and no skill. I think he will find his game and become a star. He is already an elite man defender.
Bust: I think Gordon will be a typical tweener bust

My 'best' is best for the 2014/15 season. There are so many players in this draft that can really blossom that I couldn't put a single name on there for best overall career.

Sleeper: McGary will be useful in OKC, same with Stokes in Memphis. Also like Nick Johnson and KJ McDaniels.

Bust: Gordon won't be worth his draft spot. I don't see Vonleh putting it all together.

Exum, Mr. Lightning first step, says he's a PG, but isn't a gifted passer or playmaker. He doesn't really have a good shot either. So, he's a really frail 6'6 PG that can't do PG things, shoot, or finish at the rim through any contact.

That honestly sounds like the definition of a bust, "post-busting". I like the character of the guy and I like what he could become (Penny Hardaway 2).. but his ceiling's height isn't nearly as low as his floor's depth. I won't change my opinion of him until I see him develop in the direction of the hype. He has literally only ONE quality right now.. a great first step. Maybe 2. He has a great video game name.

I agree that Exum was overhyped by his first step, and his offense was ridiculously inconsistent-- like, it literally scares me how different his shots all looked.

But the dude is absolutely a point guard. His passes were special. If you didn't see it, I don't know what to tell ya. He didn't rack up too many assists in SL, but the passes were there, and they looked great.

Sleeper: Bruno Caboclo. I know I'm going to sound biased just cause I'm a Raptors fan, but he's a sponge and has incredible work ethic, the two things you want most from young players. He's incredibly raw but he has a nice foundation for his game. He can stroke the ball, take it to the hole, and is a willing passer. And even if he doesn't pan out he can already shoot the ball pretty well and can mold himself to be a defensive player. If he just becomes a 3+D player that's not too bad. This is an age already dominated by SFs and will only get stronger in the future even after LeBron's decline, teams will be clamoring for 3+D players at the SF spot.

I agree. Everytime he went to the hoop he was looking to dish it to someone. Seems to have good court awareness.

In regards to Parker being a bust its going to come down on how you evaluate players. I think Parker is going to put up large scoring numbers, make all-star teams and in the end be Carmelo 2.0. I think Carmelo is vastly overrated and that it doesn't matter if you score 30 if you give up 28 at the same time. So there will be those that will view Jabari as one of the best 3 players in this class. I just don't know if he will be as good as casual fans will think he is or the eventual max contract he will demand.

I would be worried that Vonleh will be a bust, but I'm not because of our FO's history of home runs in the draft.

For real though I am a little worried about Vonleh and any player that gets picked more out of potential and measurements than production on the court. At least I'm confident that the Hornets currently have the coaching staff to properly develop him.

Best: Embiid. I'm choosing to ignore injury for this one. I'm also of the mind that Wiggins is going to be extremely good. Based on college I would have said Parker, but he looks like he got fat this summer. That concerns me. Not putting him down as a bust though.

Bust: I'll do several.

(a) Gordon: For the life of me, this was the most perplexing pick in the draft. I admit to seeing very little of him in college. But of what I did see, I saw this: An athletic, short power forward with no basketball skills.

(b) Vonleh: I don't get it.

(c) Harris: There's a reason he took that fall, in my opinion. I see nothing special here. Perhaps I shouldn't say "bust" since he went 19th and I think he'll be a contributing NBA player, which is reasonable value at 19. But I don't even see "good starter" when I look at this guy, let alone a meaningful difference maker.

(d) Napier: Bust. Complete and total bust. Miami will look like fools for drafting him to appease LeBron.

Sleeper: Cleanthony Early. I think he'll prove to be excellent second round value.
