Extension offer for Butler thought

Post#1 » by basghetti80 » Wed Aug 13, 2014 7:26 pm

We have not heard any news on this but I suspect an offer will be made. Barring trade we are locked into Rose McDermott Snell Gasol Gibson Noah Mirotic for at least next couple years. I would think if they could lock Butler at a 4/32 type deal they would. Then a backup scoring PG/SG via draft or free agency would be about only need moving forward.

Couldn't agree more.

Many have bandied about trading Jimmy, but I think his athleticism, amazing defensive grime, professionalism and dedication are too valuable and he should be resigned.

$8M per year isn't something I would want them to put forward unless he shows that he has found consistency in his 3pt shot. Based on last year, I am in the $4-5M/yr range.

8MIL is way too much for Butler especially the way he played last year.

Based from last year, I feel like 6M tops

I have to wonder if the reason we've heard little on this front is because informal talks have indicated that the two sides are far apart and have pretty much decided to see how this season goes and revisit it next summer.

After he locks up Lebron, Melo, Wade, Durant in the playoffs this year the Bulls organization will know what his worth is.

We'd be making a huge mistake by not trying to lock him up before he becomes a RFA. He'll be 25 going into this season - his best years are ahead of him.

His offensive game is average, but his ability to draw fouls helps since he is a good FT shooter. Being able to play with Rose and a lesser extent Pau should help get him some better looks. But he's an All-NBA defender and those players aren't easily replaceable.

7-9m per season is where he should be at. Start getting into double digits and we're overpaying. I'd say a 4/32m would be a pretty reasonable deal. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get more from another team, but he'd be enjoying Playoff basketball from his couch.

Players usually try to get money based on what other's previously have gotten...

Avery Bradley at 32 m. for 4 years => jimmy will want more.

Outside of injury, there is basically no reason for Butler to extend right now.

I argued this in another thread...Jimmy has ONE opportunity to make BUTT-LOAD of money if he can extend his scoring this seasson. Why settle for $8M a year when you can gun for $12M? His next opportunity for a fat pay day won't come for another 4 years after this season (unless he has an opt-out).

I think Jimmy will push to score more this year. His defense is established, but the more he scores, the more money he will make.

ICLO, $8 mil per will look like a nice value deal for Butler at the end of the season. Without having the pressure of trying to carry a significant part of the offense + locking down the opposing teams' best perimeter player + playing 42+ minutes per night will do wonders for Jimmy's game on both sides of the floor.

That said, if he'd take 4 years at $8 mil, we should do it.

The sooner he is signed to a deal, the better it is in terms of future team-building/modification.

I really think that unless he becomes a 3pt shooter at 38% on 3+ attempts, he's not worth 8. A pure defender without exceptional ball handling or passing skills just isn't worth that.

Only way Jimmy gets 12 mil a year is if he becomes a 39% 3 point shooter and averages 16-17 a game. Otherwise I don't see it happening.

complete scrubs have been getting 5 mil, but maybe that's cus of the non-guaranteed aspects.

I think he'll earn at the very least 7-8 per year. He's got to show us something more this year tho. Will be a completely different team dynamic this year though, and I expect him to excel at what he does best. Not sure how many 3s he's going to be taking with the other shooters we now have.

Anyone think his shooting is going to be scaled down? I mean, since he can't shoot and all.

Can we stop mentioning Snell everywhere as though he is a rotation worthy player?

Anyway, $4-$5 million for Butler is ridiculous. He can get offered twice as much in the open market. He's got a professional agent who has an idea about Butler's value, it's not like his father is managing him.

I think its way too early to extend Jimmy. Someone will offer him a big contract, I don't see him accepting $5M when he could probably get Lance money as a UFA. If Snell progesses, Jimmy may not be affordable nor necessary. Sucks but that's how it often works.

Remember the contracts Hayward and Parsons got before you say Butler is only worth 4-5 million.

8 million would be good value.. even based on last year's production. If he plays with the efficiency he did 2 years ago he might fetch 10-12 in the open market.

If you're writing off Snell because of his garbage rookie season you need to be reminded of Butler's garbage rookie season.

Parsons put up 16 a game and shot 37% from 3. Hayward put up 16 a game and shot 30% from 3 (albeit in a down year).
Neither are half the defender Jimmy butler is.

People always bring up last year, but let's not forget he came out the gate hurt even in preseason. He also was looked at to score when Derrick left. We see when Jimmy isn't relied on he can be a very legit starter.
