Re: Extension offer for Butler thought
At least 8 million per.
This season is probably going to skyrocket his value. At the same time, if one of Snell / Dougie step up at the wing, we can then use Jimmy as a S&T asset.
Its win-win for both Jimmy and the Bulls no matter what happens. Just keep the negotiations friendly.

For love, not money.

I think he could get 8mil, but then again I can see Jimmy accepting 5 or 6mil.

Re: Extension offer for Butler thought
I think the starting offer is 5 or 6, and I think Jimmy starts off hoping for 8 or 9. He will have to take a discount to get the long term security early, so if it happens, I think it ends up being around $6-7M.
There's a good chance we can't agree on an extension with him this summer, in which case he'll become restricted next year. If he has a great year he'll get overpaid, but he has to weigh that against the possibility that he regresses, gets injured, or just does not get enough shots to get his stats up.
Either way I see little chance he goes anywhere (except in a trade for an All-Star type talent).

8 million would be good value.. even based on last year's production. If he plays with the efficiency he did 2 years ago he might fetch 10-12 in the open market.
In case people forgot what they got.. Hayward got 4/63, Parsons got 3/46.
Butler will not settle for something like 4/24 or 4/28. He will walk if that is the best the Bulls can do.
Something like 4/36 is more likely, and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't take that either.

More than 8/year and he can use that extra money for a taxi ride to the airport...

Parsons put up 16 a game and shot 37% from 3. Hayward put up 16 a game and shot 30% from 3 (albeit in a down year).
Neither are half the defender Jimmy butler is.
And both of those guys are ridiculously overpaid.
Why should the Bulls give Butler a bad contract because the Hornets and the Mavericks lost their damn minds?
Jimmy needs to show that he's capable of being a 3rd option before they pay him 12 million a year. Deng didn't even get that, and Jimmy sure as hell isn't better than Deng.
It doesn't matter.. he'll get what the market dictates. If those guys can get overpaid, what prevents Butler from potentially getting overpaid? All he needs is one team to offer him 12 million plus. Which is why its absolutely ridiculous to expect him to agree to an extension worth 5-7 million per.
I'm not saying I would sign him at 12 million per based on last year's production, I'm saying people suggesting he takes 4-7 are just wrong. If I'm Butler I'm insulted at 4-7 million.

Re: Extension offer for Butler thought
Given the cap room that LA, NY, and a few other teams will have, I think you guys are living in dreamland if you are talking $5-$7M. We would be lucky to get $8M right now. Some team will make him a $12M offer and we will have to match or let him walk.
If I'm Jimmy's agent, I'm asking for at least $12M right now. I'm also telling Jimmy to be aggressive on the court and go get your money.
Jimmy's agents #1 concern is Jimmy's (and his own) pocketbook....not the Bulls.

I think the point is that someone will lose their damn mind and want to overpay Jimmy. The market will probably overpay if he becomes a UFA, that's what almost always happens. So if the market says he is worth X dollars, you have to decide if you want to pay that or move on. But Jimmy isn't obligated to take a paycut just because realgm posters think its what he's worth.
Honesty is my only excuse.

Butler could easily get 8m on the free agent market. We will need to pay him well to retain him. That, or we trade him now.
$8m is a nice number, and it's one i think he can live up to.

If Dunleavy is worth $3M, then I'll take 2-3 dunleavys at 3M before I take 1 Butler at 8M. Begin cloning procedure.

So you can't see JB even considering 6 or 7mil ? I think he would take it, but I don't think Bulls would offer something that low.

No.
I can see him taking a small discount to stay in Chicago, but people usually overstate just how much of a discount people are willing to take to re-sign. Just look at Deng. Butler would get 10 million+ in the open market. 15-20 million is a pretty big discount.

I think that's where we differ. I don't think jimmy gets 10mil, but I do think he stays a Bull.

I still don't get people thinking JB is worth $10M. Deng got $10M, Lance $9M...both > Jimmy offensively and not too far off defensively.

If he would be able to just hit the 3 ball at a respectable rate he would live up to that 8 mill or even 9 mill. But if he continued those bad offensive number's like last year, it would be a bad contract that the Bulls would get stuck with.
Now I'm not trying to argue with anyone that he won't improve, I'm just describing what I think needs to happen to be worth this type of coin being thrown around.

If they want JB to be a Bull, bad offense or not, they may need to pay him 8m just to match a deal, should that situation arise.
When Parsons and Hayward are getting max dollars and Avery Bradley, a 51.0 TS% player is getting 8m, Jimmy can do, even with pedestrian offense.

Re: Extension offer for Butler thought
With the salary cap/TV revenues supposed to increase in 2 years, Jimmy at 8 million might be a bargain if he is healthy. He has the knowledge of Thibs's system and he is young. With McDermott on a rookie contract for the next 4 years, Jimmy getting paid 8 million will be a great deal for the Bulls.
That said, if his 3 pt shot doesn't improve....that contract will be a little bit of a problem especially if McDermott is not as good as advertised on offense.
