6-8 mil range would be good. But I wonder what he feels he can get on the open market.

He just needs to be able to hit the 3 ball at 38-39%.
Maybe under the current cap, but you also need to plan ahead and factor in the increasing cap, potential for a new CBA, tv rights deals etc.
8m for a defensive specialist may not be that much.
I think Jimmy will return to league average 3 point %, but even if he doesn't, a team with cap space could easily offer him 4 / 32, in which you either need to match or let him walk.
If you let him walk, it's a bad move.

How many legit shooting guards are there in this league that are actually worth Butler & Gibson?

Re: Extension offer for Butler thought
The guys who got overpaid this year were mostly shooters (Parsons, Hayward, Meeks). I don't know if we have a good comparison for him. Even Trevor Ariza is a much better shooter than Butler.
Lance is a far more dynamic offensive player and a pretty good defender and he got $9M a year (granted, he has issues that brought his price down). Deng is a better offensive player and as good a defender and got $10M a year.
I'm not saying he won't get overpaid, but I do think that if he gets locked up early, it would be at somewhat of a discount.

Am I the only one who realizes that we were terrible when Jimmy had his turf toe injury last year? Yeah, Teague playing had something to do with it too
$8M is not too much for someone who, to me, was the 3rd best player on a 40 something win team (after Noah and Taj).

if he did that he'd be $10 mil plus
I disagree. He would be worth the 8 mill.
solid offense and elite defense is worth way more than 8 mil
jimmy butler playing off derrick rose and hitting close to 40% of his 3s is a wet dream

I just have a suspicion Jimmy is going to be a tough sign...love the lad but wouldn't be shocked to see his next contract being with a different team

If the dude shoots 37ish % from 3, he's getting way more than 8 mil. Young sg with an elite skill (defending) who's shown he can be an integral part of a contending team...dude would get an offer for at least 10 mil

I've thought about this, but what SG is worth Jimmy and Taj (and is also available)?
Scottie Pippen's response to whom he would pick for his running mate, Michael or LeBron: "That's a dumbass question. I've never done anything with LeBron. I wouldn't take LeBron to the movies."

Re: Extension offer for Butler thought
I think Jimmy's extension and the amount will be dependent on Snell's play. If Snell does that a jump in his place this season, then the chances of the Bulls looking to overpay for Jimmy to stay will come close to nil and they'll extend him an offer in a range that they can afford. If Snell continues to stink it up like the majority of the time last season then I can see the that Bulls brass being more eager to lock Jimmy up.
The Bulls management will be watching the development of Snell very very closely.

Why so serious?

Here is the top 20 SGs, as per ESPN, in terms of PPG.
James Harden
DeMar DeRozan
Goran Dragic
Kevin Martin
Monta Ellis
Jamal Crawford
Klay Thompson
Arron Afflalo
Bradley Beal
Wesley Matthews
Gordon Hayward
Dion Waiters
Gerald Green
Joe Johnson
Jodie Meeks
Eric Gordon
J.R. Smith
Trevor Ariza
Gerald Henderson
Lance Stephenson
Of that list, the ones i've bolded are those i'd trae Butler & Taj for.
Basically, the SG market is piss poor and none of these guys are worth both Taj & Butler, and in many cases, i wouldn't even give up Taj alone for these guys.

Which is why I want to lock him into a contract as quickly as possible.
There's no more assets in the foreseeable future unless we get terribly lucky with the Sacramento pick. If Jimmy's leaving, I want to get value back for him in trade. We could do that much better if we paid him a nice salary.
For love, not money.

The Bulls have to find their SG/SF offensive creator either from within(Snell, McDermott) or draft one next year hopefully through the Sacramento pick. The Bulls are not getting who they need by a trade(either very expensive like Harden, Klay etc..or mediocre like Gordon, Martin etc..).
The only way Butler is let go is if he demands 10+ million and Snell becomes a proto-typical SG or Derrick is injured again and the Bulls have to rebuild completely.

Re: Extension offer for Butler thought
Jimmy is worth 8 in the open market. I dont agree with it, but thats what these guys are getting in the offseasons.
I dont expect players to be paid less going forward...they will only be paid more.
The fact that Jimmy will look tons better just about association with other players in the roster. I expect a big bounce back year.

Re: Extension offer for Butler thought
Very difficult and interesting question. If I were the Bulls I'd start out at 6 mil for a 4 year deal whatever that is. If he doesn't take it I'd look to sign a 2 year extension for good money.

Lol I just read the article. Didn't realize it was a joke. The market for him will be hot.
Legit question: was the quote from the GM who stated he'd "max Butler and be thrilled to do it," (not exactly verbatim, but close) also untrue/a joke?
The funny thing is that this April Fool's article isn't exactly pointing to something unlikely.
Edit: here's the article. http://fansided.com/2014/07/02/nba-rumo ... -max-deal/ Obviously not a joke, coming from McGraw and Deeks.

Re: Extension offer for Butler thought
Bradley Beal is mad overrated.
Guess which one is Bradley Beal, the much maligned Dion Waiters or Jimmy Butler.
All 13-14 numbers
For someone who is meant to be an elite shooter, which helps a stat like TS%, he doesn't come out favourably.
Beal will be a good player, but he will not be the best SG in the game, as someone previously mentioned.
And no, i would not trade both Taj & Butler for Bradley Beal. We lose that trade.

Agreed.
4 ways to improve the SG position by this time next season.
1. Tony Snell grows into a 12, 3 & 3 with good shooting. I believe it's possible, i like what i see from Snell
2. Trade Dunleavy & Snell for a Kevin Martin type SG, who will only be a 2 year stop gap
3. Pray we land the Kings pick in the 10-14 range and nab a young in the '15 draft
4. Use the MLE on Jamal Crawford on a 2 / 12m deal. Again, a stop gap solution
Aside from trading for Kevin Martin, i don't see many deals for a SG out there, and certainly none worth Taj & Butler.
For those that are, no way do we get that 2G back from the opposing team.
