Not really, they just said Jonas experienced leg pain during practice, was taken to the doctor for MRI, which confirmed that "a problem is not big, but exists". Then he said that this MRI test revealed to them that they should not hurry with the decision about the final roaster. I would think this is a very fair factual reporting.

Not fair at all. First of all media reported that he "was taken to the clinic" (implying it was so bad he was not mobile), while he simply sat in his car and drove to check if everying is allright with the leg, and everything indeed was fine.

Just to illustrate how lithuanian media 'works".

Kazlauksas after the game against assies gave interview and after telling which players were cut he also mentioned his reason why not to cut the rest.

"Jonas had a small issue with his health. Felt something in his leg during training so we took him to clinic."

So in case an actual injury happens they decided to not cut any more players for now.

Now reporters go to jonas.

"Jonas we heard you have issues with your health?"

"No, everything is fine it. It was really minor."

"But you were taken to clinic"

"No, I went to the clinic myself with car. Everything is fine."

So whats the title that lithuania media came upon for this?

'Jonas Valanciunas has issues with health.'

Awesome isnt it?

Lithuanian (and those are not alone) media use main principle: the title may not (or even shall not) correspond to what is in article. And you combine answers into what you want to sell.

Isn't this common in every media around the world? Make things seem bigger than they actually are to attract more views?

From the highlights of the last game, it still looks like he gets bumped around easily....sure he's being more "physical" since there is more contact, but on more than half of the plays, he was bumped backwards into harder shots.

lol @ the Casey strategy with Val....15 points in the first half, 4 in the second half

Those "bumps" were fouls, and were called as such. Most of them were straight up shoves.

What the highlights don't show is Val on the defensive end. He wasn't pushed around at all... And he was up against big heavy guys. He didn't even give an inch...

The highlights really don't show how dominant JV actually was. Sure, he's not against the highest quality players... But you can still tell he's stronger, and quicker... And his footwork is looking very nice as well.

I did enjoy his shimmys. It actually does look like he took something away from his work with Hakeem.

Jv's footwork in both highlight vids only looked improved on those two particular spin moves he pulled off. My problem in general with his post up game is how mechanical he still looks. His feel for where the defensive player is and reacting by instinct and with fluidity is really poor. I don't need Sabonis to tell me that he tries to bully his way in every time. If I was a defender I would play him exclusively to his right side on a face up and force him left to see if he can even go that way, he only has one right step flow through running hook, he looks better on his left and right counter spins than he ever has, but he is still lacking heavily in his offensive feel and fluidity and has to put in a tonne of work on this end.

I like his strength and how he forces players boxing out right underneath the basket where his length on oboards is unmatchable for most guys. His read on pick and rolls is at a very high level, he is very smart positionally and reads his own PG and the missed shot or lead pass really well.

I'll wait to judge his defensive prowess until far greater competition than those two scrubby teams, but he's always defended well in international competition. Actually, the same can be said for
bargs. The players are just much slower and the game is much more half court paced where you don't get stars exposing perimeter defenders and forcing the big to move and defend multiple bodies, so again I'll wait until the season starts to see his defensive ability.

100% agree with what you say. Offensively, it seems that JV tries to revind his practice of what he's learned from the Dream or coaches told him to do, it doesn't look organic, just 'robotized' like Sabonis named it last year. Along with that, JV stills goes a tick too early off the screen he set to the wing or PG, his picks are dangerously close to moving ones. 3rd year in NBA - he had to get the timing in blood.

Defensively, JV became real anchor - at least, for international game. He forces altering most of shots made in the paint or even a bit outside. But, as I already told here earlier, I don't like his jumping to perimeter while overhelping. He wastes energy and risks an injury when rushing back into paint. Both is stupid.

It doesn't seem like there's that much baby fat on him to be honest. Looks in a pretty good shape to me.

Yeah Alex M has got JV working towards having the best combination of power and athleticism he's ever had. It's going to help him tremendously this year. I predict a PER bump up to 18+ and an All Star honorable mention.

No thats his backside.

Kleiza was a good signing by BC at that time, the problem was that he got injured before the season even started and it was a pretty bad injury and he wasnt the same ever since. You could say oh but euro leagues level is weaker so it just illustrates the league difference but its not the truth - after his time with Raptors he went back to Europe and is playing like crap there too. He clearly is not the same as he was pre-injury.

Return to Toronto Raptors
