Re: UFC Fight Night 47 Bader vs St. Preux Saturday Aug 16th.
Thanks for starting the thread. I usually get these up much earlier, but in a wave where I do all of the events.
Actually some semi-interesting fights here. Also some guys I couldn't pick out of a lineup.
Formiga vs. Makovsky is pretty close to a title eliminator, at least for Makovsky.
I have to stop myself from thinking Tim Boetsch is a good fighter. It's like a reflex when I look at a card to think "oh, Tim Boetsch vs. __________, that should be good!", but he's just not that good.
Maynard vs. Pearson and Bader vs. OSP are alright I suppose.

War OSP.
I just don't think Bader will ever break through, so may as well hope that OSP is good and can be in interesting matchups at some point.
Plus he went to TN and put a dude out with a vonflue choke.

If you want to root for OSP that's cool, but they are the same age with the name number of fights. I don't see much upside there.
It would take a lot for Bader to get back to contender status, since it seems like he's lost just about every big fight he's ever been in, but at least he's been in big fights. His four losses are to Glover, Machida, Tito, and Jones.
OSP has losses (granted, early in his career) to guys without Wikipedia pages. He's gone on a run against mostly borderline UFC guys.
I think Bader is on another level. Maybe someone sees something in their games that OSP can exploit?

OSP winning would be more interesting, but I see a Bader wrestle-eff decision.

It will just be tiresome to hear the storyline about Bader rattling a few wins off in a row and getting back to contender status only to see him inevitably finished in the first round by the next good fighter he faces.
At least OSP would be a fresh face in that type of fight.

Did y'all forget this was happening tonight. I probably would have, if it weren't for the few week layoff. On one hand it's nice to have a major MMA promotion back in action, on another it's a weak sauce event for them.
Still, looking forward to potentially seeing certain things, i.e.: Makovsky taking his rightful place as #1 contender, Alvey his rightful place as UFC stalwart, Tavares getting back on the right path, Pearson being another guy to crack Maynard's glass chin, etc.
You're making it sound like he's Bisping. I don't think his gatekeeper status is that set in stone. I mean he's beaten Lil Nog, Rampage, and Feijao. And the Machida plus Jones fights were the only ones where he got dominated. The one with Glover was a back and forth as long as it lasted. He's never going to beat long guys like Jones or good kickers like Machida, but he could break through and beat another contender who he matches up more favorably with, if he hasn't already. He's probably better served fighting at 185 though with his t-rex syndrome.

On the under card of a fight night event. Way to build the division.

Re: UFC Fight Night 47 (8/16) Bader vs OSP
boetsch is one of the luckiest fighters ever.
Ugh. Just let the fight play out.
Round breaks, ref break ups, bad decisions led to his 3 biggest wins as far as I can tell.
Edit: oops I forgot about one of the worst decisions in recent memory, his win over dolloway.

Redd...
What was wrong with this or the Okami win?
I don't even think the Okami win was a fluke...or a single punch turning things around. He was moving beautifully all the way through that fight, was just trying to get a sense of the length.
He did not look good tonight, that said. What's with him not training at AMC?? I can't imagine that Marcus Davis should be your head trainer.

Up against the cage being bullied by his opponent who is controlling with double unders, ref decides to intervene and breaks them up and he immediately lands a shot after being saved by that artificial interference that has nothing to do with his own skill.

Maynard was on my list of guys I didn't want to see punched in the face anymore even before tonight. Eek.
