I doubt that Khem Birch (undrafted, played very well on our SL team) is a subject of interest to anyone else, but I really like that kid and think he has a shot to be a successful NBA player.

Right after SL, Jmichael wrote: "(Sam) Cassell said if it were up to him, Birch would be part of the Wizards' 15-man roster to begin the regular season."

Sam is with the Clippers now, and there current roster stands at 12. Anyone think Khem Birch will/should be a Clipper this season? How about should be a Wizard?

...Anyone care?

Wizards a little crowded up front, but could use another rim defense big. He might work.

Problem is we need to add a backup 1/2 (no idea who is actually good who is out there). I do think Birch could turn out to be a solid pro so long as he adds some strength. The OTHER problem is we stupidly retained Seraphin (who I'm still a fan of, but he needs to go elsewhere since he needs consistency). If we could trade him for an expiring wing, I think we should. He isn't going to get playing time here so I think he'll welcome most situations.

Wow, I was sure he wouldn't do that. He already has a ring, and would have gotten more money and minutes elsewhere. Don't really see him fitting in behind two guys that will play 35+ minutes (Love/LeBron). And they can't really play Love at C because he's not a defender or shotblocker.

On second thought - they should absolutely play Love at C to make room for Marion! Especially against us in the playoffs! :D

Marion is a great pickup for the Cavs. On the old side, but as a 24-ish mpg reserve, he's still more than good enough. Especially at the minimum.

Yes, he is an extremely good pickup. That team has great depth now:

PG Irving/Delladova
SG Waiters
SF Lebron/Marion
PF Love/Marion
C Varejao/Thompson/Haywood.

They could still use a cheap backup SG, but other than that, they're set. Easily the best team in the East and a legit Finals contender if they can stay healthy.

Not sure if they are better than the Bulls. I don't consider the Cavaliers the favorites.

The Bulls with Derrick Rose effectively make them on par with the Pacers of last season imo but this Cleveland squad is (imo) more talented than the Miami squads that Lebron won 2 rings with. You could argue that Wade and Bosh might have more overall talent but the squad in general? This Cleveland team is a freakin load.

Signing Allen would be overkill.

Those first two Miami teams had more talent. No one on Cleveland is close to the Wade of those teams. And Lebron isn't what he was 4 years ago.

Overkill for which team the Cavs? Who do the Cavs have behind Waiters at SG? Oh double-shyt if Allen teams-up again with Bron.

If Love isn't as good as best prime-Wade, he is close.

They don't have a 3rd player as good as Bosh, but their depth is looking to be a strength.

Marion to the Cavs and now maybe Ray Allen. Almost doesn't seem fair. Damn, Lebron is grabbing that executive of the summer award EG was in contention for.

What will these new Cavaliers be thinking when they experience their first bout of lake-effect snow, in October?

Guess it's about time something truly exciting happened in Cleveland sports.

Marion is from Waukegan, Illinois, which is on the shores of Lake Michigan. Allen went to college at Connecticut and played professionally in Milwaukee (also on the shores of Lake Michigan. I think they'll manage in Cleveland. :D

IMO Marion to Cleveland doesn't move the needle one bit. Marion's play really fell off IMO last year which is why Dallas was so willing to let him go.

Marion's play definitely fell off last season, but it was still pretty good. He's a good pickup for Cleveland.

Only rumors but...

Still think they should trade for a C if they can.

Marion started all his games and played pretty big minutes last year. Backing up SF and PF, he can be used more sparingly and selectively, often against 2nd teams. That seems like a plus for the Cavs depth.

As for the Cleveland cold, even LeBJ probably will miss sunny Miami. I've got family and many friends in the Great Lakes region, and from their comments, the winters wear on them. Regardless, the cold never seemed to prevent the Celtics, Bulls, or Pistons from winning championships.

Cleveland is a god-awful place in the winter, but I don't think that makes much difference. These guys are traveling the country most of the time anyhow. It's much easier to tolerate a 5-day stretch of dreary, cold weather in Cleveland when next week you've got a 3-game road trip against Atlanta, Orlando and Miami.

Maybe on offense, but a prime Wade was way better than Love on defense.

As far as depth goes, the Heat had what was thought to be great depth with Chalmers, Anderson, Allen, Battier, etc. Suddenly people started thinking it was a terrible supporting cast when Lebron tried to do everything on his own and wasn't quite as good as he used to be (while Wade was much worse). Ray Allen now is worse than when he was with the Heat. Marion may or may not be worse than Battier given their respective ages. Are Chalmers, Haslem, Anderson, etc. really so much worse than Waiters, Varejao and Thompson? I don't think this Cavs team is all that deep, to be honest. They have a bunch of names, but they are like the Knicks when they tried accumulating all those veteran home players. Depth is a huge issue for them right now and Marion helps, but he fell off last year and if he falls off any more, he's suddenly not the help they were hoping for.
