Hey all, outsider here.
Watched alot of the D league last year, and thought Canaan and Pierre Jackson were both pretty impressive.
He seemed to have a solid SL, so I was just curious with the loss of Lin, Do you guys think he will crack the rotation or potentially play a bigger role this year???
any insight is appreciated, thanks and good luck.

his only competition is ish smith. since he has a 3pt shot to his game, he should be the backup pg after a month or end of dec

I don't even think it will take that long. I think Canaan is already the backup. I hope Nicky j is also in that discussion and ish is gone by seasons start but knowing Morey Johnson's gonna spend all year in the d-league, but if I had my druthers it would be
Bev/Canaan/Nicky
Harden/Daniels/Nicky
With nick getting a fair shot to supplant Canaan
I was so sad to hear Pierre Jackson's injury. Guy can be great. I watched him all the time at Baylor since I went to school here in Texas and had a ton of friends that went to Baylor. I am rooting for him to have a strong comeback and loved that hinkie gave him a contract anyways

Re: Isaiah Canaan's future
He's a bit undersized and not all that athletic, that'll hurt him on defense. He's solid enough at running an offense (from my few observations at least), and appears to be a pretty good three point shooter. He probably maxes out as a floor spacing backup point guard, which is how I think he'll be used. I also think he could serve as a backup plan in case we don't want to pay Beverly next summer (NOTE: I don't think anyone will be willing to pay Beverly very much anyways, but Morey loves cap flexibility so who knows).
Btw I loved Pierre Jackson at Baylor. Thought he could play in the NBA. Hopefully he recovers properly and gets a real opportunity next year. Classy move to give him a contract anyways.

Canaan was good in SL, until the final game with 2 min left. He turned into a chucker that missed everything.
Not sure how McHale will tolerate him heroballing. Otherwise, he's not much worse than Beverley. Defensive specialist at the PG position is overrated anyway. Unless the PG is tall and can guard 3 positions.
I would like to see McHale give Canaan a chance. But don't get your hopes up with McHale and PGs.

Re: Isaiah Canaan's future
i dotn like the pg situatino too but canaan is the best fit for backu pg. we has 24/7 in the dleague, and diid well int he summer league. ish has no 3 a 3rd string player, nick is sg in a pg's body, i think he'll get some time here and the dleague.
i'd rather get jameer nelson, eh was only 6mil/2year. morey's too daam cheap for that though. even if its half a season he's worht it. the other half u get canaan, nick and smith fighting for a rotation spot. nelson and bev would be a good offense/defense combo for pg.

I watched IC during the summer and he didn't show an unselfish gene. McHale might want to mold him to Aaron Brooks 2.0, but we need a floor general more than anything after loosing Lin and Brooks.

I think the back-up PG minutes are completely up for grabs. Canaan left a sour taste in my mouth from last season (had that deer in the headlights look), but if he can prove he's matured in training camp/pre-season more power to him, but IMO he just seems so lacking in all areas except for shooting. Don't let SL performances fool you. I really like Nick Johnson's game but I don't know if he's ready. We'll see.

He better, or the Rockets are in some trouble if Ish Smith, is playing 20 min a game.
The context of the Viper's player last year was really weird, they were running a completely unorthodox system of just launching every half decent 3s possible.

I think that battle is going to play out over the course of training camp and the pre-season games, and possibly even into the season. Things change over time, and if the team hits a slump, McHale will try to shake things up and give all the options a tryout to see if anyone can stick. That's how the merry-go-round at PF happened with everyone getting a shot at starting PF that year from Greg Smith to Delfino. I see something possibly similar happening at backup PG.

Morrow's much bigger, I'm guessing he's more like Aaron Brooks, better or worse depending on how (if any) defense he can play.
