Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread II
It is funny to me how much grief MKG gets. If he develops even a half decent shot he would be our best player. He is basically our Al of defense. He carries the team on the end Al can't play just like Al carries the team on offense. The fact that he is so vital to our team success yet gets so much grief is crazy. Without him we don't make the playoffs last season.

This is the season soft supporters become neutral, neutral fans defect and critics rest comfortably. Any trade target upgrade at the deadline won't threaten PG, SG or C. It will come down to SF or PF. I'm just glad we took care of our Hendo business and we can focus on our worst player on offense.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread II
I'll never understand how Al Jefferson lets guys waltz into the lane and only gets joking criticism and we are all mad because he isn't an all star etc because he puts up 20 pointsbut MKG has legit haters everywhere because he is the exact same thing on the other side of the ball. He is the Al Jefferson of our defense and he is just as important. And defense was the side of the ball we were actually GOOD on
. I don't even know if I'd say MKG was the problem on offense. If we had CDR all year and started him over Hendo we would have been an above average offensive team

It is because what he does is not easy to see because stats don't encompass it all. People who know what he accomplished know how good he was. He was as important if not more to our team last year than Jefferson. Some people don't seem to understand there are two sides of the court so they just don't get the full game.

In other words, if there has ever been any season where you should go in pessimistic, it's this one, right? /green

MKG and Biz are both integral to the success of our identity and both are the most criticised players on our team.
This is another reason that I'm so excited for the season. Now that we have addressed some of our glaring deficiencies and added overall depth to improve the rotation, we can play these guys to their strengths rather than being required to play them and hope for the best out of their weaknesses.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread II
He's practicing one handed, I like it.
Also, I find it telling that whenever Calipari talks about the best players he's coached MKG is always among them. He mentions him in the same breath as Rose, Wall, Cousins, and Davis. I think that says a lot about how talented of a player he is.

I've been excited about it since he asked for a shooting coach last offseason. He's been working on it ever since, we just need to be patient and support him.

IF he develops a jumper he has the potential to be a star. Thats all his game lacks.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread II
It is possible MKG can improve his shot. It will be VERY HARD for him to do because its hard to break habits but it's possible.
Danny Green was not the shooter he is now in UNC. Now he is arguably the best 3 point shooter in the league. His form was always good tho but he still improved

Green won the McDonalds all american game 3pt contest.
Remember MKGs really bad habits aren't that old. His shot was not near this bad at Kentucky. It was that first coaching staff that really got him backwards.

I am a DIE-HARD UNC fan, I don't think I have EVER missed a game. He was a good shooter at UNC but in the NBA he is a super threat. When he would take shots at UNC it didn't seem automatic to me as it does in San Antonio.
Yeah that is weird about MKG actually getting a worse shot since being here lol. I hope he improves but not sure since he practiced alot last year with not that much improvement

A better comparison would be say Kawhi Leonard. MKG shot 50 points better behind the line as a freshman than Kawhi did. Kawhi shot .291 as a sophomore (almost 90 points better than his freshman year), but we don't have that info for MKG to compare. It shows Kawhi had the ability to improve. I don't think MKG will ever be as good behind the line as Kawhi just because mechanics will hinder that, no matter how much he tries to fix it, but it is possible to get that ability to become a good shooter when you were not one.
It all depends on development and work ethic. MKG has the work ethic, but hasn't had the luxury of top tier development like Kawhi has. Hopefully that is changing with this new transition our franchise is taking.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread II
its not just MKGs awful form that is holding him back on offense. part of the problem is his mentality. MKG has to want to dominate his opponent on offense the same way he wants to dominate them on defense. too many times MKG defers, stands in the corner, gives the ball up rather than attacking a weak defender, doesn't look to post up when he has a smaller player covering him. that mentality needs fixing as much as his jumper needs fixing. if he cant gain more confidence in his offense, then an improved jumper will only go so far.
