Also, Varnado as back up with Noel will be annoying for opposing offenses, although opposing defenses will love it.

I'm quite fond of our weird little team of misfits.

Me too. Sims played very well in his 27 MPG for 26 games with the Sixers. I want to see MCW-Noel-Sims w/ our two best shooters playing a lot of minutes this season.

I agree but in fairness, a lot of that impression is from the same guy whining constantly so that it seems most posts are negative. And you're absolutely correct - this is nothing but bumped up ridiculous expectations. 1. Because of Cooney and 2. because of the belief that every Hinkie trade is going to be some absurd rip-off.

Gortat is more valuable than Thad and was traded for pretty much the same pick (at least going in, who knows how it works out) and the Suns took back more bad salary than we did (though I'm not positive how insurance on Okafor ended up). At least the bad contracts we took back serve some purpose with LMAM an Embiid mentor and a Shved a no risk - likely no reward lottery ticket.

If we had gotten GRIII also, I would have loved this trade. As it is, I like it just fine. We're now more or less officially done with the breakdown and it is all building up from here.

You think Bennett, who has proven nothing is a "ridiculous expectation"? That is ridiculous. Wiggins would be a ridiculous expectation for this trade. You are severely overvaluing Bennett or Shabazz. Like I said before, asking for them is not asking for stud prospects. Both of those guys have been nothing but disappointments.

I understand your stance, but you go crazy with the hyperbole. Hinkie trading for Bennett is not some absurd rip-off. Stop.

What do you expect to get from the Miami Heat pick? When you look at all the picks the Sixers have made between 15-20 over the last 10 years, that's what you are probably getting. A Rodney Carney, A Speights, etc. If you get lucky, maybe a Thad Young who was no better than a role player. If that excites you, party it up. I still preferred getting a player back.

i'm really thinking the plan is to try and max Klay Thompson next offseason.
Durant is a pipedream

I don't think the plan is just to sign Durant. I think the plan is to have the money to sell Durant on getting him, plus the money to sign 2 other max players.

I liked Shved very much in his rookie season. I thought at times he was special.
But last season was very disappointing.

I hope he gets back on track, than we have a very nice player.

So Bennett is both trash and yet someone who you are continually crying about not getting. Ok, makes sense.

I didn't say he was trash, I said he has been a disappointment. More hyperbole on your end.

A bit disappointed, but if Sims starts next to Noel that is a very dim bright spot to the deal. How many years in a row will the Sixers have 2 first-round picks??

J (U)

Is the pick the Sixers got actually more valuable than Bennett (and Bennett's contract)?

Kevin Pelton (3:42 PM)

Vastly.

Bennett for thad would have been a rip off. Bennett is still a legit prospect and I would have tap danced in the street if Hinkie got him for Thad. And I can't tap dance.

As Bully said, a future first round pick is the expected return for one season of a player like Thad. Heck, I would argue that Gortat and Asik are both noticeably more valuable players than thad, and that's all they returned.

Oh and if the person we draft with this pick next summer is literally a clone of Speights, then we win this trade. Because we get 4 years of the guy on the cheap versus 1 year/$9 million of Thad when we're going to have one of the worst records in the league regardless.

This is a laughably bad trade that accomplishes nothing for us. Why would we do this? Is Hinkie going to run out onto the court in our home opener and kick Wade in the knees? Do they need LMAM to get his pom poms ready so he can cheer for Embiid at the doctor's office? We need another 3 million dollars in cap space that we're never going to use?

Thad is a good player to have around a young squad and we gave him away for almost nothing. Maybe we can get lucky and that Miami draft pick can actually make our roster 2 seasons from now, that's literally the only saving grace here.
I speak the truth.

Welp. One thing's for sure. MCW should still have a sick statistical season this year lol ESP now that we shipped our leading scorer away

Btw I love how much action is going on in our forum. Historically speaking, we might have the most love for a 19 win team lol together we build!
