3 Things To Look Forward To in The Lakers-Rockets Season Opener

http://hoopshabit.com/2014/08/17/3-thin ... on-opener/

Both of these teams experienced a disappointing offseason, as they failed to successfully recruit superstar level talent. As a result, the Lakers and Rockets will likely approach the new NBA season with something to prove — not only to the league, but especially to each other.

With copious amounts of stories and drama pervading the Lakers’ and Rockets’ seasons during the past couple of years, it’s difficult to know which stories to give ear to. Here are the top three storylines that are swirling around their pervading season opener against each other.

Kobe Bryant vs. Dwight Howard

On Oct. 28, Howard will look to punish Bryant’s Lakers and spoil their season opener in front of the Los Angeles crowd, who will look forward to continue discouraging him.

Kobe Bryant vs. James Harden

James Harden is widely considered to be the best shooting guard in the game, but the prevalence of this notion can be partly attributed to Bryant’s injury-riddled season last year. Now that he’s healthy, many Lakers’ fans expect Bryant to unleash his “Mamba” venom against James Harden while he reestablishes himself as the league’s best 2-guard.

Jeremy Lin vs. Houston

Albeit slighted by the way the Rockets treated him, perhaps nothing would assuage his indignant feelings more than avenging the Rockets with an outburst of Linsanity on opening night. Lin’s stats took a dip during his time with the Rockets for two main reasons: his numbers regressed to the mean after his explosion in New York, and coach Kevin McHale proved unable to effectively utilize his skill set. With a fresh start in L.A., Lin will look to make the Rockets regret trading him.

***

This Western Conference battle that is intertwined with numerous headlines and vengeance will certainly be a spectacle for any basketball fan, and it’s taking place on the very first night of the NBA’s new season. How many days are left until opening night again?

I'm looking forward to seeing Kobe repeat what he did to Howard his rookie year...

I can't wait for the Lakers to clown on the Rockets. It's over before it has begun.

The irony of Dwight Howard & Harden being on the same team. Only known for one side of the ball, both think they are the best at their position and both are mentally fragile.

Meh I'm more looking forward to watching Randle play then I am about the Kobe/Dwight, Kobe/Harden story lines.

It's great and all but I got that out of my system last year after Steve's game winner and watching them fail miserably in the playoffs.

Don't even care about the opener... I'm more concerned about the games between Christmas and all star break.

Not that excited about the opener. The only point that intrigues me is the third and that's only because of the disrespect Houston has shown Lin over the last year so i'm hoping to see a good game from him.

If this is anything like last season's opener vs Clippers, sign me up. Unfortunately the season went down hill after that.

That game is definitely have a heated 2 on 2 dual. Kobe and Lin will be out to prove different things but their games will coincide with each other that night. Howard and Harden will be out to prove what they said this summer is true about them being the cornerstones of the team.

But the game is gonna be about rebounding, and defense, ball movement and bench play. The team that is more fluid in those areas will win the game easily.

Head to head:

Lin's O vs Beverley's D.

This is big stuff.

Three things:

1. Kobe versus Harden.
2. Kobe versus Houston.
3. Kobe versus World.

Randle is young... Lin is one dimensional... Davis & Hill will hustle... The reality is we will go as far as Kobe takes us...

Jeremy Lin Says He’s A ‘Subplot’ To Kobe And Dwight

http://www.lakersnation.com/jeremy-lin- ... 014/08/23/

The Los Angeles Lakers will face off against the Houston Rockets to start the 2014-15 NBA season with some interesting storylines heading into opening night.

One of those storylines is Jeremy Lin facing his former team for the first time in a Lakers uniform. Although Lin will be one of the main storylines going into the season opener, the Lakers point guard believes he’ll be a subplot on Oct. 28:

“To be honest, I think I’m a subplot,” Lin told Lakers Nation. “I’m glad, but it’s not an opening night centered around me. It’s more Kobe and Dwight.”

Regardless, on Oct. 28, the Rockets visiting the Lakers to get the season underway will be must-see television.
