Is Sean Richardson playing better than Morgan Burnett?
I'm not a Morgan Burnett hater by any stretch of the imagination. And maybe it's the fact that the defensive starters haven't played that much, that in their few snaps if they make 1 mistake it gets magnified because the sample size is so small.
It's just seeing Morgan Burnett whif on the tackle against Maurice Jones Drew made my stomach turn. We have Lynch coming up in 10 days, AP twice, Reggie Bush twice, Matt Forte twice, and Lesean McCoy. Plus who knows come playoff time we could see Gore and Kaeperdick again.
The last damn thing I wanna f'ng see is our highly paid starting safety whiffing on a RB around the LOS and watching him scamper 40 yards for a TD.
Meanwhile Sean Richardson doing the exact opposite. He's hitting like a ton of bricks. I never want to see someone get injured, but man Richardson is knocking people around. If you've been reading the daily camp feeds Richardson has been making plays since DAY 1 of camp. We haven't had a physical hitter since Bishop left. We need someone that can hit! I'm tired of the soft D reputation, let' knock some people around!
Is Richardson outplaying Burnett??? Or it's just richardson gets 50+ snaps in preseason and Burnett gets 20 so you don't see much of Burnett. Plus Burnett is going against 1's in games and Richardson is going against 2's?
I know it would be a huge thing to bench Burnett, he's highly paid and he's been around quite a while, he's the veteran, and Richardson is largely unproven. Maybe I'm talking about TOO BIG a leap of faith in Sean. Maybe 1 great play by Sean and 1 bad play by Morgan is not enough to start mixing the lineup.
I just see some good potential with Haha and Sean back there waiting in the wings and I'm wondering how far is the gap between them and where Burnett is?
Burnett had a bad year, but maybe he's make all the secondary calls and does important things we don't see, and Haha and Sean are no where near ready to handle those responsibilities?
I realize backup guys like Hayward and House are probably better pure coverage guys, but is there a way we can get Richardson on the field and hit some people?

It’s a good problem to have tyring to get all our worthy DBs some PT because we have 4S & 4CB that are worthy. I gotta believe Burnett will be OK but its nice to know we have positive options.

At this point, I'd rather see Burnett whiff on a tackle in the PS than hammer a guy just for the injury factor. Richardson is still trying to make the team (even though it's a long shot in my eyes that he is cut) so he needs to play harder and faster than HHCD or Burnett. On the other hand, Burnett has been average at best last season and training camp. It would be nice if he could pick it up at some point.

Morgan Burnett is in BJ Raji mode nowadays. Hes hasnt made a play in years but his reputation (and contract) is of a solid starter and playmaker. If he doesnt step it up this year they need to dump him in offseason and get rid of his contract. Im holding out some hope he takes a step forward this year but Im not convinced he will.

I'm with you on your assessment at safety but cutting Hawk would be a collosal mistake. Might upset Hawk haters to hear it but there's not another ILB on this team that comes close to him

I'm pretty sure all of our LB'scould hit a guy 3 yards down field and get dragged for another 3 yards. Jumping on the pile after a RB has already been tackled would be the hardest part teach the young guys.

Raji was actually a top DT once upon a time. Burnett has never really done anythingBuckrageous wrote:Morgan Burnett is in BJ Raji mode nowadays. I squandered an asset? Then Hammond taught me well.

Considering they can't do that already your overreaching. There is a reason that Hawk leads the team in tackles. It's because he's the first Packer there. If he was so bad that he should be cut shouldn't other LB's on team be able to reach the ball carrier before him??? You can say he's always hitting them 3 yards down field and getting dragged another 3. And even with that your embellishing. Hawk simply doesn't make the impact plays you would hope for but is generally solid in most areas. Just doesn't make game changing plays. But he's assignment sure whereas our other ILB's aren't and that's why he's one of our starting ILB's. Want him out, find better ILB's that aren't in the wrong place 1/2 the time.
Just out of curiosity who are our 2 best ILB's if Hawk isn't one of them??? Lattimore would probably be the best bet but he still makes far to many mistakes at too regular a level to take Hawks spot. Brad Jones spot sure but not Hawks. You say you want him cut so hell unless I'm mistaken you must think he's pretty much at the bottom of the barrel. You can say all you want that any of our ILB's can do what Hawk does but in no way shape or form is that true.
Our ILB's just aren't that good behind him. It really isn't like they haven't gotton any chance's on game day either to prove themselve's if that's your next argument. If anything if you want to cut Hawk first worry about replacing Jones in starting lineup. Hawks clearly better then Jones so now u still need another LB to come in to take Hawks spot.
If you want to talk about addressing ILB next offseason or through next years draft then you might be on to something but the fact of the matter is right now with the Packers current roster there isn't another ILB better then Hawk. If you wanted to argue that it's because ILB is one of the weakest positions on the team if not the weakest fine. I won't argue with that. But it still doesn't change the fact there aren't 2 ILB's on the team better then him to get Hawk out of the starting lineup much less cut him.

Yes. He's an inside linebacker and started all 16 games.

Re: Is Sean Richardson playing better than Morgan Burnett?
At this point there's nothing wrong with having both of them. Wouldn't want to cut Burnett and go all in on Richardson. We've played the game of thinking that letting a guy go because we thought we had a replacement and we've gotten screwed way too much on that. That's one of those competitions that will continue to play itself out as the season goes on and I'm fine with that.
F*** Marc Davis, f*** Tim Donaghy and f*** David Stern as a staff, record label and as a mothaf**kin crew......and if you wanna be down with Stern then F*** YOU TOO!!! Stu Jackson f*** you too.....all you mothaf**kas F*** YOU TOO!!!!

Nice oversimplification. But you are right to an extent that one of his best abilities is his availability. And very nice cherry picking one line out of my post. Once again. Who are the 2 if not at least 3 ILB's on our team better if your one of the people who wants to cut Hawk???
You can hope for a better option all you want but there isn't one on the roster currently so to say cut him is asinine at this point. Your cutting off your nose spite your face. If you think we should replace him next offseason in FA or during the draft fine but what better option do we have then him right now??? The only honest answer to that question is we don't have anyone better or more reliable.... That's fine then people that want to cut Hawk will still say it and then if they were to get their wish would complain even louder because despite Hawks flaws whoever we'd be replacing him with THIS year isn't as good.
I'm not a huge Hawk fan but I simply recognize the other players on our roster at ILB. If anyone can point to a better option I'm all ears but until then i'll leave it at this

I agree that as of this moment Hawk is probably the best ILB we have. That being said, if he were to get injured and be replace by another player I don't think the difference in ability would be very noticeable. Other guys would probably give up a couple more big plays while making a couple more big plays and the defense in general would pretty much remain the same.

Re: Is Sean Richardson playing better than Morgan Burnett?
Effectively Hawk is the least stinky in a large cesspool of stink at middle linebacker. The lack of talent there has to be attributed to our scouting department and Ted.
Burnett just looks like he doesn't have what we were hoping from him coming out of college. He looked like a ball hawk, and a sure tackler. Unfortunately in the NFL he looks like he is afraid to break on balls that would be sure fire interceptions. He got a lot of money in spite of his production not living up to the hype. He was a bad long term signing and I hope that Dix and Hyde are starting.
