Hell ya. I don't even care if he turns into a 20 ppg scorer. I'm just happy he is gone.

Duds Dropped for Delfino

I was about to say how glad I was for Doc to dump Dudley without giving up a draft pick, but then...

Doc, Get Your Head Out of Your Butt!

Post#7 » by Ranma » Tue Aug 26, 2014 7:31 pm

:banghead: :censored: :onfire: :upset:

I'm quite agitated that Doc gave up a first-round pick in order to dump the player option on Dudley's contract, regardless of the protection status of the pick. I'm getting sick and tired of Doc cashing in our future to pay for his mistakes with impulsive shopping in the free agent and trade markets. It's also getting old for me to qualify him as a good coach whenever I say that he's just a bad-to-questionable GM, but it goes to show how right it was for Boston to give Danny Ainge those responsibilities during Doc's tenure.

Geez, this is exactly why I hate Ned Colletti for the Dodgers with this stopgap measures that continually drain the organization's resources. Great teams have to be able to identify, develop, and integrate good young players into their lineup. See the San Antonio Spurs.

With Dudley's rehab supposedly going well, couldn't we have at least wait to see what we would have had with him this season before dumping him at the expense of a future first-round pick? I mean it's doubtful that anyone else was going to give the Bucks such an offer for a player out for the season and a soft Euro center.

Now, we're lacking even more at the SF position, so this better be a set-up for something big in the immediate-to-near future. The silver lining is that it will hopefully allow Reggie Bullock more time to play at the 3 spot.

Salary Flexibility Options

Post#10 » by Ranma » Tue Aug 26, 2014 7:45 pm

mttwlsn16 wrote:Hmm for a guy who is out. How much money does that free up for us?

Based on my understanding per Larry Coon's NBA Salary Cap FAQ and Hoops Hype's Team Salary Tool, here are the options available with regards to the salary slots of Delfino and Raduljica:

• up to $6,037,500 in incoming tradeable salary (125% of salaries + $100K) for upcoming 2013-14 season
• up to $4,817,500 in pure salary relief for 2014-15 season if both team options declined
• up to $6,121,875 in incoming tradeable salary for 2014-15 season if both team options exercised

The above figures are based on the Clippers as a tax-paying team. If we're not a tax-payer, the figures jump to the following:

• up to $7,225,000 in incoming tradeable salary (150% of salaries + $100K) for upcoming 2013-14 season
• up to $4,817,500 in pure salary relief for 2014-15 season if both team options declined
• up to $7,326,250 in incoming tradeable salary for 2014-15 season if both team options exercised

Absolutely disgusted right now. Trading away a future pick to dump an expiring contract and get crap in return?

Hopefully we get an injured exception for Delfino, spend $3,000,000 on someone decent I guess

They can, but because they're near the hard cap, the NBA will most likely deny them that. Their last avenue is one of the trade exceptions they got from trading Antawn Jamison and Byron Mullens earlier.

I hate the guy (Raduljica). Watched him play for Partizan many times. Seems like a stupid guy. But to be fair not a bad player, especially on a cheap contract.

Delfino probably won't ever play for you guys, his contract is insured so you'll only owe 20% of it this year and he is non-guaranteed the year after. Pretty decent salary dump. If he does play Delfino brings a lot of the same that Dudley brings, bomber from 3 and some decent defense.

Miroslav isn't a terrible throw in, he's a big strong body and still relatively young. He showed some decent moves in the post, if he could work on his conditioning a bit more he could be a healthy contributor in the NBA.

2015 2nd from the Bucks isn't bad either, not expecting us to be too good this year.

All and all not that bad trade for either of our teams, I don't really see what the interest in Dudley for us is but getting a future 1st is pretty nice.

Good luck with the season!

Everyone Calm down! I'm assuming Doc did this trade as a foundation for another trade he will soon do which will net us an SF. I'm giving Doc the benefit of the doubt since he has a lot more basketball experience than me and probably knows what he is doing.

Looks like Delfino will only miss part of the year, so he should suit up mid-season?

Miroslav is an upgrade over all our bigs last year, decent third bench big behind Hawes/Big Baby.

Not a fan of giving up distant firsts, especially in the Aaron Holiday draft!!, but think I'm content with this move, especially if its the Bucks 2015 2nd we got and not our own back

Apparently we're looking into waiving Delfino with the stretch provision and signing Chris Douglas roberts or Ekypeh Udoh? so we gave a pick to downgrade from Dudley to CDR? I'm starting to panic lol

Yet according to a person with knowledge of the Clippers' situation, it's likely that Delfino - who is owed $3.25 million next season and has a team option for the 2015-16 campaign - will be waived using what's deemed the "stretch provision." The provision allows the payment of a player's contract (and the related salary cap hit) to be stretched out over several years, and would allow the Clippers to make another addition via free agency (or perhaps even two). Because the Clippers used their non-taxpayer midlevel exception on center Spencer Hawes in July, they are operating with a hard salary cap and have less than a million dollars remaining to work with because of it. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the moves had not yet been made.

One strong free agent possibility is 27-year-old shooting guard Chris Douglas Roberts, though he can't sign until the aforementioned moves are made. Roberts averaged 6.9 points and 20.7 minutes for the Charlotte Hornets last season in 49 games. Another possibility is big man Ekpe Udoh, the 27-year-old who visited with the Clippers on Tuesday. Udoh, who was taken sixth overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 2010 draft, spent the last three seasons coming off the bench for the Milwaukee Bucks. Raduljica is also likely to be waived by the Clippers, and his possible buyout (he's owed $1.5 million) could also create more salary cap space.

More Insight Into Dudley Deal

Post#20 » by Ranma » Tue Aug 26, 2014 11:10 pm

Kelly Dwyer, Yahoo! Sports (8/26/14)
...Dudley bonuses include a $250,000 payout this season if his team makes the first and second round of the playoffs, and those bonuses (based on a playoff performance Doc Rivers’ squad fully intends to follow through on) already count against the salary cap apron.

The Clippers know that they’re on the losing end of this deal, but they’ll gladly trade that for the ability to pay Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and (to a lesser extent) DeAndre Jordan eight figures this season. And for the ability to round out its roster with Hawes, Farmar and Davis. The team won’t receive an injured player exception for Delfino (who will not play much or at all this season) because of its cap status, but the roster spots help, and Raduljica (if last year is any indication) can apparently play in a pinch.

The Los Angeles Clippers send a first-round pick and Jared Dudley to Milwaukee in a salary dump
