Current Cap Space: None. $29,205,351.00 over
Maximum Cap Space: None. $23,947,004.00 over (if all options/guarantees were not picked up, all FAs renounced, no draft picks were to be signed this season, and all Exceptions were renounced)
Tax Apron Room: None. $10,526,108.00 over

How I got there:

Guaranteed Contracts (13): Quincy Acy, Cole Aldrich, Carmelo Anthony, Andrea Bargnani, Jose Calderon, Cleanthony Early, Tim Hardaway Jr., Shane Larkin, Pablo Prigioni, Iman Shumpert, Jason Smith, J.R. Smith, Amare’ Stoudemire

Partial/Non-Guaranteed Contracts Kept to date (2): Samuel Dalembert, Travis Wear

Carried Money (5): Langston Galloway ($31,000.00), Arnett Moultrie ($1,136,160.00), Orlando Sanchez ($15,000.00), Jordan Vandenberg ($27,000.00), Metta World Peace ($555,166.00)

FA Cap Holds (3): Mike Bibby, Baron Davis, Kenyon Martin

Draft Pick Holds (0): None

Current Exceptions: Taxpayer Exception used on Jason Smith. No BAE due to being above Tax Apron. TPEs of $3,637,073.00 (Raymond Felton), $32,920.00 (Jeremy Tyler)

Let's say this season the Knicks trade Calderon for an expiring contract, then land a top five pick in the offseason, use the stretch provision on J.R. Smith, keep Shumpert's rights and renounce every one else.. What would their cap space look like?
Disclaimer: Trades I post shouldn't make you stressed or angry if you disagree. If you say it's unproductive because it won't happen and we're only allowed to post deals that actually happen, it takes away 99% of trades here and the fun out of the board.

Still using the estimate provided by the league of a Cap of 66.5 million, they would have just under 30 million in space. Obviously, if the Cap goes up, the space would also go up accordingly.

Sorry to keep doing this to you with different scenario's, but let's say the Knicks stretch provision J.R. Smith, renounce all free agents (including Shumpert), keep Calderon and land a top five pick, would the cap space still be around $30 Million, less or more?

Same Cap Scenario as before of 66.5 million:

Under Contract in your scenario:

Carmelo Anthony - ~22.8 million
Jose Calderon - ~7.4 million
Tim Hardaway Jr. - ~1.3 million
Cleanthony Early - ~.8 million
2nd Pick in the Draft (where they currently stand) - ~4.2 million
7 Cap Holds for Empty Roster Spots - ~3.7 million

= approximately 25.8 million in Cap Space.

Hope that helps!

Okay hypothetical situation again:

The Knicks determined to get NBA ready talent, send their 2015 first round draft pick and Jose Calderon to Phoenix for Eric Bledsoe and the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers first round draft pick owned by Phoenix followed by sending Tim Hardaway Jr to Memphis for Tony Allen.

How much cap space does that leave the Knicks with this off-season? Would it be enough to then go out and sign Omer Asik AND Greg Monroe?

Probably not. It would leave them in the vicinity of 15 million or so. I don't think Asik and Monroe are settling for splitting that.

Carmelo Anthony = $22,875,000
Eric Bledsoe = $13,086,957
Tony Allen = $5,168,539
Cleanthony Early = $845,059
Langston Galloway = $845,059
7 Cap Holds = $3,700,000

Assuming $66.5 Million in salary cap = $19,979,386 in cap space

So yeah, enough for Greg Monroe or Omer Asik, but definitely not both.

What kind of first year contract is Greg Monroe looking at? $14 Million?

Is $5,979,386 enough for Robin Lopez or Kosta Koufos, you think?

C-Kosta Koufos
PF-Greg Monroe
SF-Carmelo Anthony
SG-Tony Allen
PG-Eric Bledsoe

Is that team talented/tough enough to do any damage in the East?

This is interesting but Bledsoe is not worth moving from a top 3-5 pick to out of the draft completely in exchange for a bottom 5 pick next year.

If PHX put their pick on the table (likely 13-14) and Bledsoe in exchange for Calderon and the Knicks pick (assuming it's in the 4-5 range), it's worth considering. Bledose is a risk with his contract and injury history. If i'm trading a top 5 pick I need a proven all-star.
