You know I understand perfectly that some people feel that Kirk doesn't deserve to have his jersey retired, as stated I'm in the middle so it really doesn't bother me whichever way it pans out, but it's somewhat laughable that to make their points people have to belittle Kirk's achievements as though he just messed around for almost a decade with the Bulls and didn't nothing of relevance.
He has done nothing to get his jersey retired, he is just a fan favorite, he only got stats because he has been a long tenured Bull, well that's all rubbish. The guy was an under-dog the moment he stepped on to the NBA coming with a class with future hall of famers. The fact that he has been with the Bulls for almost a decade is an achievement upon itself, and the fact that he was able to contribute consistently as he has and still attain the statistics he has accumulated as a Bull, well that's a whole lot of achievement and commitment to one franchise.
You may not feel that the guy may not be deserving of having his jersey retired as a Bull, but lets not act like he hasn't provided a whole lot to the franchise either, and just treat him as though he was just a fan favorite 'mascot' either that just happened to stick around out of pure luck. He has provided great service and commitment to a sports franchise that we all love, and he should actually be appreciated.
The Bulls franchise has been around for almost 50 years now, lets not act like it's one of the new franchises and Kirk just happened to be one of in the top 3 in many categories out of luck either. He will definitely not go down as one of the greatest NBA players in history, but he should go down as one of the best in Bulls history, though clearly not in the top echelon of great Bulls, but still one of the best no doubt.
Why so serious?
