FIBA World Cup 2014
shouldn't we have a thread for this?
I'm pumped to watch all the countries play, whether they are contenders or they are among the weakest yet have some NBA player leading them like Blatche for Philippines or Gorgui Dieng for Senegal.
I know some of the older heads of the board would enjoy Croatia against Argentina with plenty of current and past NBA players, most importantly including Walter Herrmann who's still representing Argentina in international competition.

Re: FIBA World Cup 2014
Serbia - France is a good one. a whole lot of players with NBA connections in this game. I'm very impressed by Joffrey Lauvergne who was drafted only 55th in 2013. He's come along real nicely and can do a whole lot on the court while being 6-11. Versatile dude. Miroslav Raduljica has been very good as well, he should have a place on an NBA roster this season.

Re: FIBA World Cup 2014
Team USA's defense looked locked in against Finland. Still wonder who scores when things tighten up late in a game, but if they play defense like that it might not even matter. Also glad to see Cousins getting some good run out there. He was willing to do the dirty work and looks determined to prove he can play in a disciplined team environment. I was also impressed by how he didn't retaliate after getting unjustly hammered by one of the Finnish guys (it was his 5th foul, he was frustrated and clearly trying to get his money's worth), DMC just sat on the floor for a minute to gather himself and then calmly got up and walked off. Great signs for him, and for Sacramento fans.

Serbia lost to France 74-73 by a dubious foul call on Lauvergne in France last possession

Lauvergne and Raduljica were the best on their rosters, both achieving PIR 21.
Hoping to watch some USA vs. Turkey tonight. Predictions? 30 diff?

Re: FIBA World Cup 2014
I think I was just the only person who watched Senegal - Puerto Rico.
Gorgui Dieng looked very well out there. Since Senegal needs him to be their leader, you can see him doing things you would never see him attempt in the NBA. He's handling the ball up to the three point line and looking comfortable doing it. Among the plays he made, he, per example, caught the ball with his back to the basket six feet from the basket and then drove to the paint and finished off with a running hook. Impressive.
Hamady N'Diaye from the Kings also had his moments. Three powerful two-handers and some great blocks on the defensive end.

yeah, it was a blah outcome after a very tense fourth quarter. Lauvergne just closed his eyes and drove into the Serbs.
how about Boris though. Invisible for 35 minutes and then excellent down the stretch. He really took matters (and the ball) in his own hands.

next up for me is Greece vs Philippines. Curious to see how the heck does Blatche look leading a Philippines team.

I think he pretty much controlled the game, 4 pts stat is very deceiving. In the end he did it like a boss. Unfortunately for me

Time for Davis to take over.

and it happened after one of the Croatian players (Krunoslav Simon) said before the game that he doesn't know any of the Senegalese players, they all look the same, and he just knows that Diouf (a soccer player) isn't playing. Gorgui Dieng continues to be awesome..
I unfortunately missed that game but afterwards loved how Hamed Haddadi went for 22 points in the first 17 minutes of a game against Serbia. two dunks in a row (the second one an and-1 poster on Raduljica), soon followed up by a jumper barely over the three point line which got him at 8 for 8 from the field. and then he picked his 3rd and 4th foul in a matter of 20 seconds and it was over.
Pau Gasol was playing out of his mind during the last game of the night. Made three three pointers in like a minute and half. He still has it in him when he's motivated.

Re: FIBA World Cup 2014
Aussies just played the perfect half pressing Lithuania who miss their only real good point guard Kalnietis, forcing turnovers and just making every shot (for **** sakes, Joe Ingles couldn't miss). Up by 19 against my brothers Lithuanians at the half.

Re: FIBA World Cup 2014
Nate Jawai really put in a solid effort. He seemingly gets tired fast but he gave it all he had during those 7 minutes and that performance really was necessary for Australia at that point.

Re: FIBA World Cup 2014
The fact plumlee is taking away from the few minutes that are available for Drummond is a shame. I wouldn't mind seeing coach K kick rocks its obvious he's using favouritism if he even has plumlee on the team to begin with. I say hireKevin Ollie but hey I am a uconn guy.
