Rumor: Rajon Rondo wants out of Boston

Post#1 » by JLop » Sun Aug 31, 2014 5:01 pm

Rumors about Rajon Rondo and the Boston Celtics have been swirling for what seems like forever. They're not about to slow down, either, with Boston in the midst of a rebuild and Rondo in his prime. ESPN's Jackie MacMullan just added some fuel to that fire, saying in a behind-the-scenes clip from "Around the Horn" that Rondo has no intention of staying with the Celtics.

https://s.ytimg.com/yts/swfbin/player-vflzmZnk0/watch_as3.swf#!flashvars

The video is above and the transcript is below:

Frank Isola: Hey Jackie, now that Kevin Love's traded, you know who's next up? Your boy.

Jackie MacMullan: Oh, I hope so. Just get it done.

Isola: Now it's gonna be the Fall of Rondo.

MacMullan: I know it. And it will happen ‘cause he's told him he wants out. And no one believes me, but that's the truth. And I don't see how you get 80 cents on the dollar for him. Tell me where. Tell me where. I mean, you know, the Knicks? People keep saying the Knicks. Yeah, well, who are they going to give you? The Kings want him, and the Kings will give you Isaiah Thomas and the big kid, McLemore.

J.A. Adande: They lost Isaiah, the Kings. Isiaah's down in Phoenix now.

MacMullan: Oh yeah, that's right. Yeah, you're right. God, that's right.

Isola: They do want him, though.

MacMullan: Yeah, and they'll give up McLemore. But the thing is, Rondo's already told ‘em flat-out, I will never re-sign with you. So that's no good. Where do you go?

Isola: I wonder, you know — maybe something with Houston and the Brooklyn Nets. Maybe some kind of three-way?

MacMullan: Houston has interest in everybody, right? They always do. But the piece there was supposed to be Asik, and he's gone now. So, I don't know.

Isola: And so is Jeremy Lin. There was talk about Jeremy Lin and Asik. What about a team like Dallas?

MacMullan: I don't know. Does Dallas want him? Who do they give you back?

Isola: We know the coach of the Clippers — I mean, they have Chris Paul, but I don't think he'd ever take him.

MacMullan: He doesn't like Rondo, remember that. I mean, he's done with Rondo. They went a good, long way together, but that guy, Rondo drives him nuts. And they have Chris Paul anyway. They don't need him. I thought maybe Phoenix might be interested because Ryan McDonough knows him, and they've got Bledsoe so maybe that works. Maybe that works, I don't know. But then the Celtics have the same problem, unless they think Bledsoe's worth a max.

The latest report on the matter indicated that Boston was not making a trade a priority. Reports like that surface once every couple of months though, as do reports that the Celtics are talking to other teams about him. The fact is that, even if Rondo did want to stay, it would make sense for Boston general manager Danny Ainge to explore his trade options. This roster isn't constructed to win now, so it should probably be thinking about the future. Ainge already drafted another point guard, Marcus Smart.

It's worth noting that MacMullan's comments didn't take place during the actual show, and that casual conversation is different than filing a report on the matter. Still, she has been around the Celtics for a long time, so we should take this seriously. And we should get ready for lots more speculation and reporting on his future in Boston over the next few months.

Rajon Rondo mentioned on the past, that he won't be playing for Miami. Then again, now that Lebron is gone, and Allen will be doing the same, could the Miami Heat explore the idea of bringing Rajon Rondo to the team?

We don't have any pieces and Boston isn't trading him to a rival.

Rondo's stupid. Who wouldnt wanna play for the best basketball team in the history of the NBA?

I know they are "rebuilding"

But these r the celtics we're talking about. This team has swagger and always will have it because of their great past.

Rondo should concentrate on rebuilidng the greatest NBA franchise instead of just trying to jump ship.

No one knows for sure. Rondo has only indicated he wants to stay but test the FA market like anyone else.

Idk how we'd make it work, but Rondo would be the piece that puts us into legit contention again.

Even if Miami had the chance to trade for him, I don't think Riley blows up his 2016 plan for Rondo.

I don't think the rivalry card can be played right now. Boston isn't contending and they were willing to dump Pierce/KG to a division rival.

But, yes to the first part. There are a lot of teams that could trump any offer we give and good for them. I don't care for Rondo

It's only been 2 years since we closed their championship window. I don't think Ainge has forgotten that and the Nets were not a rival when they traded away KG and Pierce, division or not.

He's already been a part of a build and that time has passed. Boston is going in a new direction and their recent draft choices are evidence of that. He's perfectly fine in wanting out. Both KG and Paul Pierce left that situation and Rondo is likely going to enter his prime right now if he hasn't already. Why wouldn't he want to leave? He was one of the major pieces on Celtics teams which were among the most competitive in the last six years, with a title to show for it. KG is well-documented as having said in his own right that he stayed in Minnesota too long.

It's time for him to leave too. Swagger doesn't win games. There's nothing stupid about this, dude.

So what if it's been two years? Ainge was considering trading Rondo to the Lakers a few years ago and that was also two years away from their finals rematch. And Ainge trading KG/Pierce to the Nets was an awkward situation regardless of whether or not you think they were a rival. I don't think Ainge cares about this narrative crap as much the typical nba fan does

I don't even need to look over the numbers to know this doesn't work under the current CBA, that's just the first of it. Second, Napier? Really? For a proven all star? One of the best passers in the game? Really?! an unproven rookie will get us Rondo? Thirdly, Im not 100% sure of this, but I don't think we can even offer a first rounder in any trade right now.

I always felt since Lebron departure Rondo would be a great fit here. He is a hellava pick and roll point guard and would thrive in our offensive scheme and defense. Rondo would create a new championship contending big 3 here in Miami. We have a very small window if we want to have success with Wade as a star player (2 years). As of right now no we do not have the pieces, but coming trading deadline a lot could change on the success of Napier and Ennis early in their rookie season. If they show promise, they become huge trading chips. If we bring Rondo into the fold, it would be a huge huge attraction for a player like Kevin Durant to fit here perfectly or any other big time scoring free agent.

I was kidding but think about it. Rondo is still proving he can come of that ACL injury. He was not that same Rondo he was last year before the injury

Yeah, I can't think of a worse fit alongside Wade. Can't shoot, needs the ball in his hands, and when he has the ball in his hands, his team is regularly in the bottom 5 of the league in terms of offensive efficiency.

Rondo would be a horrible fit with Wade. Remember how the Spurs would literally leave Wade open near the 3pt line?

He'd be a terrible fit with Wade. He'd definitely play well with Bosh though. Besides, Rondo stated that he wouldn't want to play for the Heat after Ray signed with the Heat.
Thanks for all the great memories, LeBron! The show must go on! #Heatnation

Rondo wouldn't be a terrible fit with Wade. Rondo can play D something we need when Defending PGs. Also Rondo and Wade are both great Mid range shooters who can't shoot 3s. Spacing wouldn't be a problem with McRoberts and Bosh
