What is the King getting?
Don't get me wrong I love the whole LBJ story and I'm not bashing but just wanted to know what you fans think.
In fact I hope you win a title while my team tries to make their rebuilding process work. And yes I come in peace.
What do you think King James got is getting for coming back to Cleveland?
Yes he got a max contract, yes he got the love of Cleveland, in his press release he basically told everyone that Wiggins would be gone. But what do you think he got from Dan Gilbert.
Here is a team and front office that has not done anything since he left. Even with several #1 picks the team has floundered. They fired a coach hired him back gave him a long contract and then fired him again. There is/was a lot of bad management going on.
So here you have the best player in the world ready to come back to your team. Which is a major financial windfall, they sold our season tickets after LBJ announced at a record pace, and now the team has the opportunity to compete for a title. What do you offer LBJ to come back....a piece of the team? Because Gilbert saying
"I am sorry I wrote a scathing article about you and put it online....I'll take it down if you come back!"
seems to fall just a little short.
No matter what Cleveland needs LBJ more than LBJ needs Cleveland. What do you think he is getting in return?

Re: What is the King getting?
I think if you read LeBrons letter it seems quite obvious. Most of us love the NE Ohio area and it wouldn't matter what the owner of a team said about us, in fact we might even understand what caused the emotions to run over like that. There's a reason that people were calling in to the sports radio station and started crying after having read LeBrons article. He got it and frankly he seemed to be one of us.
BTW his wife always wanted to come back to Cleveland and LeBron always wanted his kids to attend the same school that he attended. He always had a much stronger connection to NE Ohio than he ever had to Miami.
Others may or may not get it, but we really don't care. Some of us feel a connection to NE Ohio that we've never had eventhough we've lived other places.

So basically you are saying it was his love of NE Ohio that brought him back?
Perhaps I am a cynic. But I doubt there is anyway LBJ would just come back give Dan Gilbert added millions upon millions and not get anything, tanagable in return..just for the love of the NE Ohio. I am sure that played into it..but there is so much money involved I doubt if a max contract (that he could have got from many other teams) is all there is to it. This guy is the top seller in sneakers in the NBA today...besides Jordan....And any team he goes to would have trotted out the red carpet for him and loved him. So love of NE Ohio, while it sounds great does not seem like quite enough. But that letter was great!!!!
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Yeah, there is no proof or even hint of anything else so no doubt you are a cynic. Nobody legally could give him more than his contract anyway.

If the front office had done nothing since he left we wouldn't have had the assets to entice him to come back.

Re: What is the King getting?
The whole letter thing is not as big of a deal as people made out. You'd think lebron coming back would have put that to bed. It was incredibly unprofessional and stupid but those bridges were mended a long time ago. People do and say dumb things in the heat of the moment. They've both moved on from it, it wasn't a deciding factor in him coming back. He always wanted to return one day and it just so happened we lucked out with wiggins and had the assets to form a better cast than Miami.

Hey came for a better chance to win multiple titles. what looks more enticing for the next 5 years, Wade/Bosh or Love/Irving. That's really all it came down to. Don't buy into any of the home crap, If Miami 3peated or found a way to land Melo this off season, he would still be there. It's always been about roster.

I'm not here to bash the Cavs. But be it by bad luck or just bad management the cavs have done next to nothing, without the luck of the lottery, to improve this team since LBJ left. Via trade or getting a free agent. Everyone they gave up to get Love was from the luck of the lottery.

The only way to rebuild is through the lottery. We brought picks, took on contracts and kept our own picks and look where we are now. Of course luck contributed with the quality of the picks but you don't do a full rebuild in 4 years like we have without luck so I don't even know what you expect or are complaining about.

Luck of the lottery and trading 3 first rounders (and we still have a bunch of first round picks. This team has actually done a great job of accumulating assets and guarding cap space.

Nothing directly, but you get "considerations" from a billionaire. Obviously nothing necessarily agreed upon beforehand, but maybe you hear about investment opportunities sooner than others. Maybe your nephew who is in marketing gets moved to the front of the stack for interviewing for an open VP position in one of Gilbert's holdings. Maybe your wife needs to find a place to buy for her next juice shop and one of Dan's guys knows real estate well and can help out. A lot of little things...

Re: What is the King getting?
Pretty simple really...
1. He gets to come back home. Despite what you may have heard, North East Ohio is a lovely place to live, and the people who live here are very loyal to it. There's a reason the reports about LeBron being sick right after "The Decision" came out. He missed Ohio his entire time in Miami and couldn't wait to get back.
2. The talent of Love/Irving/Waiters/Varejao/Thompson/Marion etc... is much better than what Miami could have given him this year, and more importantly, moving forward.
The move was a no brainer honestly. It was the best move for him, not only on the court, but also off of it. Suggesting that a billionaire bribed a soon to be billionaire is some crazy talk when you factor in all of the danger that would have come with that.

If it was only about roster he could've signed with Houston.
Home did matter to him. They also had the ability to put a potentially great team around him, and he may have spoken to some PR experts who told him that the key to being a "global icon" and potentially a billionaire athlete would be to go back home.

Bribe is such an ugly word, especially when we are talking about the love of home and team.

And side business deals are done all the time, considerations as one poster put it.
But in my world LBJ is putting millions upon millions in Dan Gilbert's pockets. Cleveland needs LBJ more than LBJ needs Cleveland. If LBJ went to the Bucks they would generate Millions. Everywhere LBJ goes right now he is an instant money maker. So if you figure all of that into the equation plus the fact that basketball is a business. The Clippers sold for 2 billion.
You say LBJ is a soon to be billionaire...how does he get to that level selling sneakers, getting max contracts? The most easiest way would be ownership in something like a team or a major real estate project.
This is all speculation on my part but love of state and the people only does so much for your bank account.
But like I said I could be 100% wrong.

No honestly I have my own opinions. I am just interested in what the Cavs fans feel prompted him to come home. Is it all about "the feel good movie theme" that has been spun to the masses. Or was it future considerations and more that tipped the scales to help him make this choice.
I mean the guy came out guns blazing. 1. The beautiful letter. 2. Telling the fans don't get your expectations up to high about winning a championship, as they rushed to buy up all season tickets. 3. I'm looking forward to playing with the the talent cleveland has...oh and I won't mention the #! pick in what has been called one of the best drafts in decades...because yeah....he's gone!!!
To me it plain to see how much power this guy has already..and that's only what has been shown. So to think he came back just for the love of NE Ohio, really does not take into consideration the power he got and the money and value he has generated for Cleveland basketball and business that feed into the basketball community. The money that LBJ is going to generate will more than pay for his contract. In fact money does not seem enough because it is capped. Like Bryant said he is probably worth $75 million just for this one year. And that might be a a low number.
Say what you want about LBJ but he learns from his mistakes and he is not a stupid business man.
But that is just my opinion.

Insider trading happens a lot more than you would like to think
The mortgage backed security meltdown that crippled our economy lead to how many people going to jail?
The one guy Bernie Madoff killed himself and they still don't know where all the money is/went. Probably off shore.
How much money was made for individuals that never saw the inside of a court room?
Companies were bailed out because they were too big to fail and all paid for by us.
Yeah there is a lot of shady deals going on all the time. We just don't know about it.
