Re: Positional Battles: PG
I think/hope Jennings is going to buy into SVG's system at least as well as he did for Cheeks. People are rightly down on Jennings for how poorly he finished the season, but many seem to forget the beginning of the year. He was clearly engaged and trying to do what the coach wanted. He was racking up over 8apg and even getting some heat for not being aggressive enough with his own offense. If he's willing to really listen to a coach like that, then there is some hope for him under SVG.

Re: Positional Battles: PG
Jennings will start the year, but whether he still has the job or not mid-season will depend entirely on his ability to play under control. There is no question he's the seperior playmaker and is very capable of producing 8+ apg, but if he continues to chuck shots he could play himself right onto the bench. I don't know that DJ is much better defensively, but if can not turn the ball over and make some shots he'll earn some burn.

DJ has a pulse. That alone means he is at worst equal to Jennings defensively.

I think people are seriously over-estimating what Augustin is capable of. I anticipate he'll be an above average backup, and spot starter, but I don't think he's talented enough to be an every day starter.
Or perhaps people are just hating on Jennings a little more than necessary. He's got some shot selection issues no doubt, and his defense is suspect, but he's not as bad as you guys make him out to be.

Re: Positional Battles: PG
He's got shot selection issues.
He's got shot mechanic issues.
He has issues making his rare good shots.
He's the Jim Abbot of PG's around the rim.
Statistically he was the worst defensive starting PG in the NBA (bottom 5 overall amongst PG's).
He's got a terrible attitude.
He's got a terrible demeanor.
He's weak mentally and physically.
He's added weight this summer because he is no longer eating the same brand of paint chips as he has since childhood. His new paint chips have more lead.
He sucks, bad, but we're stuck with him. We are just going to have to wait 2 years until his expires. The less we see of paint chips the PG is the only way to make that time bearable.

Re: Positional Battles: PG
I went with Augustin, because I love how he played last year under Thibodeau. However, I do also have to agree with Cowology's response in the SG thread about how Jennings/Meeks may pair well and Augustin/KCP may be a good pair off the bench.
Jennings under SVG has tremendous boom/bust potential. SVG won't put up with Jennings being Jennings BS. If Jennings can change, he has the talent to be great. If he is who he is, he'll be benched/shipped out ASAP.
BTW, JD, I And1'd you for the Jim Abbott line. Nice old school reference.

Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Re: Positional Battles: PG
Up until Cheeks got canned, Jennings was at least a decent player. Not efficient on the offensive end, but not awful, and certainly a good guy running the break. Late in the year, he was godawful.
That's not the real issue, though. All year he was horrible defensively. You don't need your PG to be a lockdown defender, but Jennings can't get through ANY picks at all and allows penetration at completely absurd rate. If we want Andre to log 35+ minutes a game, we can't have a PG that allows his man to come strolling into the paint on nearly every play.
I hope SVG has a defensive scheme that can mitigate Jennings' awful defense. If not, we're in for another rough year defensively, because I don't think Augustin is a starter.

I think Augustin isn't getting overestimated. Most posters just despise Jennings so much that they would prefer anyone over him.

Augustin is definitely getting overrated here. He's a system player. We'll see if he fits SVG's system.

I agree on the PG/SG pairings but I would start DJ and KCP. I don't know that DJ is really a "system guy", he's just not a distributor but he can shoot and control the tempo so that's enough for me.
