Rajon Rondo's trade value.
Going down the list who is the first name you'd trade for Rondo? (assume a 1 for 1 deal where salaries don't have to match, but contracts stay the same)
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Re: Rajon Rondo's trade value.
I'm sure the list could use some tweaking, I didn't put a whole lot of thought into it. But, the idea was to have 10 players represent trade values from 10 to 1.
Lebron represents the 10 trade value slot.

Re: Rajon Rondo's trade value.
The list has a lot of players on the far extremes that don't really say much.
Overall I think Boston fans are going to be disappointed in the return for a Rondo trade - or else Ainge just doesn't trade him because he doesn't get the type of offer he would consider.
For mediocre or bad teams, he's just a 1-year rental - the same reason Boston would be looking to trade him in the first place. For good teams, his style can be tough to fit in - he's not really a plug-and-play type of player. Having other ball-dominant players or a relative lack of shooting can make him much less effective. So many good teams wouldn't have interest in him, except perhaps on bargain deals.

Somewhere between Holiday and Lee though there is an ENORMOUS value gap between those two.
investigate Adam Silver

Re: Rajon Rondo's trade value.
For me, it's somewhere between Al Horford and Jrue Holliday. Straight up, I'm not sure I'd trade Rondo for Horford simply because of the big-for-small thing you try to avoid, but if you've got another capable big man you'd probably seriously consider it. That being said, Rondo is a better player than Jrue so if a team offered me Rondo straight up for Jrue, I'd absolutely do it.

Who are players you'd nominate to be half way between Holiday and Lee?

Re: Rajon Rondo's trade value.
The problem with Rondo is five fold:
1.) Saturation at the position. PG might be the deepest position in the league. 2/3s of the league have PGs they like, so no big.
2.) Of those teams who need a PG, which one needs a ball dominant one who can't shoot well off the ball. That cuts the 10 or so teams left to maybe 5 or so.
3.) Injury. Rondo has come back from serious injury and alot of teams fear his long term durability.
4.) Pending Free Agency - He is an expiring contract and nobody really knows what he wants or where he wants to be.
5.) He is kind of a ****.
My team is one of the few where I could see them trading for him, but it just isnt that appealing.
With all that in mind, Id say his trade value is pretty darn low.

Re: Rajon Rondo's trade value.
His value is a late first round pick. That is what contenders have to offer. If your team isn't a contender he doesn't make sense. The list of teams where he would make sense is very short. I can see a fit with Dallas, maybe the Lakers.
He is seriously overrated on the boards. He doesn't score a lot of points, can't shoot well, horrible free throw shooter. The guy has played 68 games the last two years and is about to be a free agent.

Considering Lee is a neutral contract at best, and Holiday is a young stud locked up for a long time, I'd nominate players like this (factored in desitnations):
HOLIDAY
Jeff Teague
Dion Waiters
Greg Monroe
Enes Kanter
Paul Millsap
Nik Stauskas
LEE
investigate Adam Silver

Re: Rajon Rondo's trade value.
I altered the list a bit, very sorry that changes some folks votes. Consider this a practice run.
Any more tweaks to the list needed? I can easily pull one or both of Amare and/or Wallace off the list to make room for more hole fillers.

Re: Rajon Rondo's trade value.
Holiday. I'd put his value at a straight up deal for Holiday. That is assuming that Rondo is agreeing to stay long term and sign a contract with that team next summer (I don't expect him to extend, but say he wants to be there into the future/handshake agreement).
I'd rank Rondo ahead of Holiday in my point guard rankings, but Holiday is younger and locked up on a reasonable long term deal. I think it balances out. I don't think Rondo gets traded as a rental because the trade value in that circumstance isn't worth it for Ainge, he might as well cary him into next summer and hope for a sign and trade or maybe the Celtics work something out with him themselves.
I think his talent level is on par with Horford, but Horford's size adds extra value as does the fact that he plays at a thinner position league wide (PG is fairly saturated).
I think your tweaking screwed with it a bit. I voted Holiday before it got moved around and now he has none.

Re: Rajon Rondo's trade value.
Both LMA and Horford are more valuable than Steph. And Foye is not a better player than Mayo, so is the difference in their values simply due to the size of their contacts?
All factors considered, Rondo's market-driven value is in the eye of the beholder. Sure, there are a ton of guys in the L right now that won't hurt you at the PG position. IF HEALTHY, Rajon is a difference maker of the highest order there, and you can only say at that about 4 or 5 other PG's.
Most teams wouldn't trade Al, LaMarcus, Stephen or even Jrue for him, age, contract, health and all. But I could see a would-be contender giving up a Jrue-level asset, if Ainge can spark a bidding war.

Re: Rajon Rondo's trade value.
Really, as Boston fans, our best hope here re: trade outlook is that Rondo comes out of the gate looking healthy and motivated and showing strong leadership for our young crew.
Sure there'll be the concerns about it being just contract year performance, and, as always, about his playstyle and unique strengths and weaknesses, but the way this works out best for us is for him to perform to that level where teams start to seriously think about bringing him onboard even without assurances of resigning.
If he plays very well, then, while nothing is guaranteed, we suddenly have some options again: resign him ourselves if he's proving worth the big money he's supposedly seeking; try to work something at the deadline where teams will now be less afraid of his injury; hold on for a sign-and-trade to a team that couldn't sign him outright...
There are just too many factors preventing a bidding war from getting off the ground right now, from him being unproven since his injury, to his direct statements that he intends to take the full UFA tour, right down the the simple lack of suitable trading partners at the moment.
This is unfortunate because it's something of a pick your poison for us if we're planning on trading him and going full rebuild: If we trade him now we're getting pennies on the dollar; if we hold on to him and he performs to a level that really props up his trade value significantly, then he's probably winning us games we don't want to win.
And if he performs below our expectations, and thus impels no bidding war next offseason, we either let him walk for no return whatsoever, or bring him back on a reasonable contract but with probable soured relations...

Boston should re-sign him, he is a good player to build around still.

I would trade any of those players except for Curry, Horford, Holiday and Aldridge.

Rondo isn't and never was good enough to build a team around and even if he was, he isn't really "a spring chicken" anymore. If the Celtics were to keep building by adding youngsters, Rondo will only hurt the Celtic's draft positions. And on top of that, he'd be in his 30's by the time those players developed.

I have to imagine Amare has more trade value as an expiring than Wallace does.

When the Rondo/Sacramento rumors were going from the posts I saw both sides balked at Stauskas, so that might be around the value lol.
Rondo's value to Boston is much greater than I think current circumstances render his value. In a way it's like the George/Rose where the Pacers/Bulls will not trade him for less than those players are possibly capable of in the future and there is really no middle ground. Boston's best bet is to probably let Rajon come back, demonstrate he is fit and close to the player he once was and that way there won't be any doubts what his value is 6 months from now (aside from the contract status)
