Everyone saying that he needs to go sit in the post and never shoot a jumper is how you end up with stiffs like Shawn Bradley, or guys that can't shoot like DeAndre Jordan. I'm sure Durant would be a much better player if he had stopped shooting jumpers at a young age and focused solely on developing his post-up game. He is the height of a PF after all.

It's seeing people like this that make me realize how talented Durant is. Durant is like what 7 feet now? And he seems so much more agile and smooth than other people his height. Bol Bol the way he moves and the speed at which he does things reminds me of Bruno Caboclo.

Hell, we had a kid on my team who was 6-6 at 14, and he could barely get the water fountain to hit his face on water breaks.

I am aware he's a 6-10 FOURTEEN YEAR OLD. But from what I'm watching it doesn't look like he'll become close to as agile as Durant which is all I'm saying. I'm not knocking him, I'm simply giving props to Durant.

Durant wasn't that agile in his HS/Texas days, he actually looked pretty slow. His athletic improvement since coming to the NBA is one of the most impressive I've seen.

If you saw Durant at age 14, you wouldn't ever think he'd be the cat quick ballhandling, transition menace that he is today. Years and years of hardwork and training can pay off.

Although from his frame and genes he's likely to grow more and be atlist 7-1 or so, you can never realy know for sure.
As someone who coaches basketball for a living, mostly ages 6-14, I can tell you that a 14 y/o with a pro potential should be able to play all around, and not just stand under the basket just because he's tall for his age.

If you watch Anthony Davis' highlights from highschool, you'll see him playing only outside. Only later He realised he'll but much better pro by using his hight and length inside the paint, and still the "guard skills" he developed by playing in the perimiter in HS helps him be a better PF or a C in the NBA.

1) Durant is the exception to the rule.
2) Guys who have the athleticism of smaller guys are normally the ones that grow late, not early.
3) He projects to be 7'3 plus, that's simply not going to combine with any outside game.

If he turns into Deandre Jordan, he will be very, very happy as will whoever drafts him. Although having no jumpshot outside of 15 feet never hurt any of the all-time greatest C's.

If he has a successful NBA career it will be down to using his height on the inside, that's what he should focus on.

Kid is only a 9th grader, cut him some slack. He has so much room for growth physically and mentally. Remember Blake Griffin in high school and how he lacked explosiveness. And look at him now.

9th grade isn't early at all, pay attention to high school rankings, they start at basically sophomores. class of 2017 ayton is being hyped up. He actually looks great for his size and age.

i agree with this. we have to be realistic.

i think he should follow the yao ming route and work on free throws, hook shots, and turnaround jumpshots.

his frame is awful.

marvin bagley, ej montgomery. now those are the REAL blue chip prospects in the same class. both 6'9-10 with much better frames, athleticism, coordination and skill.

True...hard to rave on about a HS freshman.. but Manute was such a cool dude...I'm rooting for his kid to be a star.
Seems he just might be a damn good player...if not quite 7-7.

Did you know...the phrase " My Bad" began with Manute? Manute had a limited skill set..yet I really liked to watch him play. Manute spent much of the $ he made in the NBA ,helping poor folks in Sudan. I'd always found it interesting how African Americans are called...BLACK when actually.. they range from tan to shades of brown. Manute however...was the blackest I saw..and tallest..skinniest. A very special guy.

Really impossible to judge at 14. He still hasn't even fully grown. You can only truly tell IMO when a kid is a potential pro at 17-18 years of age. Some of it is height which he has, so he at least gets that checked off since 99% of kids don't make it because of being short. But the rest is mental. You have to see if he has the toughness and smarts.
