Why not? What has Payne done to be a better asset then Monroe? Atlanta would be crazy not to do that trade.

It's not that he's a better asset than Monroe. It's that they can have both if they wait. Monroe doesn't put Atlanta into contention.

Atlanta will get a player with no role in the team, they have two players in Millsap and Horford that are better, with no bird rights and they will burn an asset for a guy they can sign for free next summer.

they would be crazy to do that trade.

Who has a lot of cap space next off-season?

Of those teams who wants Monroe at $12-14 mil per?

Those are the key questions!!

If Greg Monroe stays in a Detroit uni all this season, he can then organise a sign and trade next off season.

By staying here all season, he keeps his bird rights which allows Detroit to go over the cap either to resign him (unlikely) or use in a sign and trade to another team that may have cap issues but that way they can go over the cap to get him.

It also works out better for us as we can get something decent back via the S&T.

There is certainly no rush to try and force an unlikely trade during the season.

Essentially it's the same situation as when Grant Hill went to Orlando and we got back Ben Wallace and Chucky Atkins.

So as Pharaoh said, who wants him and who's willing to pay him. Those are your S&T teams next off-season.

This trade might be acceptable to Detroit fans but likely not one Monroe would like.

Toronto trades Fields, Hayes & Hansbrough for Monroe and Jennings.

This allows Detroit to give a very good offer for Bledsloe as your starting PG.

Jennings would become a 6th man and Monroe a back-up C for Jonas gives Toronto tremendous depth and the ability to move Williams.

I would prefer to not get garbage. How long is left on Fields and Hayes contracts? I think I might do it IF the bledsoe arrangement was already in place before the deal.

All 3 are expiring contracts Toronto is also getting garbage in Jennings who has 2 years.
Hansbrough is a very good player can be a PF and C against a small line-up. Plus Fields is very decent defensively and a good passer.
Toronto can move Williams and have Jennings as a 6th man.

If they are all expirings then it might be worth it to get rid of Jennings.
