Any other Ravens fans on here ?

Post#1 » by Illmatic12 » Mon Sep 8, 2014 7:06 pm

I can't be the only one? I have nothing against the Skins for what it's worth, we don't play you guys enough to build any animosity. Steelers fans in MD are far more annoying than Skins fans.

Anyways I can't believe Ray Rice is no longer a Raven. I still remember being excited when we picked the stud RB out of Rutgers in the second round. I always thought he was a standup individual, but that video is damning as can be. For the greater overall good of the league and pro sports in general, I think Ozzie, Harbaugh and Bisciotti did what needed to be done.

There's a post about it in the "Around the NFL" thread on the Skins board:

A punch that can knock someone out can sometimes kill a person, and note that she also hit her head on the way down, and then when he dragged her out of the elevator, he appeared to drop her head on the (marble?) floor. That video told a lot.

Ravens fan here. Sad to see Ray go because he was such a staple of our team and community since he was drafted.

But with that said, this was absolutely the right move to make. PR-wise, Baltimore would have been lambasted by the media had we kept him on the team after that video.

It's kind of hard for me to understand the NFL and the Ravens - much less the judicial system that let Rice go. Did the NFL and Ravens really not know what went on until the video was leaked?

Ray-Ray made Her face hurt that handrail like she was skimming cash from the charity box. I think the Ravens took a step in the right direction to support their female fans. The NFL did a piss poor job on Ray.

Smoke pot four games, knock a woman out two game, beating a woman while stoned = 6 games? Wonder if he was tested.

From a PR standpoint they let Rice go and suspended him indefinitely.

The video showed his fiancee take a swipe before they entered the elevator. Rice pushed her when they got in the elevator. She attempted to move toward him and he quickly countered and knocked her off her feet. She fell forward and her face hit the rail. Rice is fortunate she wasn't more seriously injured.

I expect now that his NFL paychecks are over his now wife will divorce him. She might even civilly sue him.

Dude is ruined. His life is never going to be the same. He messed up big time and will definitely suffer as a result.

Strange how the video just turned up.

The Ravens are getting lambasted regardless, even moreso if it comes out that they knew about the video. Between this and the Ray Lewis incident (that still gets brought up 15 years later) the organization's rep will probably never recover

Yes, the Ravens blew it, but I think the NFL is far more at fault. They're the one's in charge of penalties - I believe the CBA prohibits a team from handing out larger penalties than the NFL. The NFL did the investigation, and according to the hotel - they never asked for a copy of the tape. That's amazing, imo. And the hotel said they would have given them a copy if asked. Hell, if TMZ got a copy, the NFL certainly could. My impression is Goodell should be fired. And he makes roughly 30 million a year as commish. How our judicial system let's Rice go without jail is also amazing. Anyone feeling sorry for Rice... I think there are a lot better choices of people to feel sorry for.

I wonder if she still would have married him knowing his football career now is over and his future income is likely to be very limited.

Honestly.. I've seen the vid multiple times since I made this post and each time it gets worse. Anyone who did what Rice did should absolutely see jail time, no question. It's unclear if law enforcement was aware of the video or not (you have to think they were) which makes you wonder how Rice was able to escape without a conviction. If any normal person did that, they'd be seeing jailtime.

And yes, Goodell should be axed.. maybe that's the good that can come out of this situation. He's one of the worst commissioners in sports right now.

The sad thing is in the original press conference, she said "I apologize for my role in the situation"wtf is she apologizing for? Rice is a bully who beats on women, Janay Palmer should not be apologizing for being made a victim. Battered women syndrome is a sad reality.

As if knocking her out with a punch to the head wasn't bad enough, the casual way he acted after the punch was disturbing - letting her lie face down for a while, basically treating her like a dead carcass. He wasn't at all concerned about her health. You know the old saying about celebrating TD's - Act like you've been here before. My guess from his reactions is - He's been there before.

^Exactly. When the news first came out early in the year, I actually believed Rice and Palmer's claim that this was a one time incident.

After seeing his demeanor in that video, it's obvious that wasn't his first time doing what he did. I've come across people like Rice before, and those types of people should be in a jail cell-- it's that simple.

I'm not but my girl is. Absolutely disgusting what Rice did. Glad the Ravens stepped up and cut the piece of ****.

I thought that Ray Rice was not punished enough the first time. It certainly could have been an 8 game suspension or longer. I'm actually not that shocked what I've seen from the video. Ray Rice's fiance did hit him and the response was disproportionate. If people are glad that the Ravens took a stand now, IMO they should have been upset that they didn't cut ties with Rice before.

That being said, it isn't healthy for either side to hit each other. One of my friends broke up with his fiance because she was hitting him regularly and it was better to separate rather than getting in a much bigger altercation.

And the irony is, if Rice had received an actual punishment from the court and the NFL in the beginning (say, a 30 day jail sentence and an 8 game suspension), the impact of the video would have been largely muted IMO. The NFL could have then used the opportunity to point to the suspension and reaffirm their policy against domestic violence, while Ray Rice takes a huge PR hit but probably keeps his job in the end. (Not saying that's right or wrong, just thinking what likely would have happened.)

I wouldn't even call what she did hitting him - it didn't have enough force - and it looked like he did the same before she "hit" him. There's no rationalizing what he did - in any way. If she was clawing at his face or kicking him in the groin, I'd could see some people defending him, but she did basically nothing.

After seeing that video, she's lucky she didn't die. Her head ping ponged off that hand-rail and she flopped to the floor.

Rice better thank the heavens every night that he didn't become a murderer on that night.
