Spurs New Court

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/23 ... court-Logo

I was just reading an article yesterday where the guy rank the NBA's best court designs. I forgot where I read it at. I think Sheridanhoops and I just don't feel like googling it up.

Anyways, two things that he mentioned there.

One, big ass logos in the midcourt are not cool, and I agree. If this report is true and the Spurs now will feature the largest, then it just got worse IMO. It really doesn't help that our court colors.. which is Black and Silver really aren't "cool" looking mainly because.. Well.. Both Black and Silver aren't cool colors.

Two, The Spurs' "U" Logo. The 3D drawing looks like something that comes off your first ever computer. That's totally true. I just think that the Logo needs to be redesigned. Atleast the 3D part. The logo itself is fine, just that it's 3D effect totally sucks. Really looks like a first grader's drawing.

I guess I don't understand. The Silver and black court IMO looks best. I was scrolling through the above link and immediately thought the Spurs court looked better than every other court in the league. Maybe its because I like Silver and Black? I don't know. The other courts, (Brooklyn for example) look like marketing money grabs IMO.

Remember when Detroit went to the Teal and Blue with the horse-head logo in the Grant Hill days? I do, because I had to look at that crap in person for a few years. It was God-awful. The simple Spurs logo works because its just that, simple and definitive. That is exactly what a logo should be. I could be in the minority on this, but I hope it never changes.

I really hate invoking this, but I see a market bias in here. There is nothing special about the Knicks court (which belongs in the 20s), the Bulls is solid but not remarkable (the bull on ball thing isn't right), the Celtics has some history but simply isn't one of the very best, and the Lakers is a flat-out eye sore. On the flipside, the Jazz and Suns get a bad rap.

Ranking is generally a terrible idea, though, since it tends to exaggerate quality separation in spots and overstate it in others. They really deserve their own standalone scores (where it's easier to apply an objective calculated value), and if there is a many-way tie, so be it.

Simply in terms of colors, I really don't like Black and Silver. Black is something I'll wear only because it makes me look slim. And Silver/Gray is just a very common color. In terms of designs, I do prefer the colors of those Grant Hill days. Blue and Teal are more unique colors. Anyways, I'm not saying we should change colors. Silver and Black will forever be our colors. It's definitely better than our Fiesta colors.

But the Logo just needs better shading. I didn't mean to say that we should make a new logo. Just better 3D shading. Makes it more real or something instead of first grade cartoons. I'm just glad it doesn't look all that bad from far away. But when I look at the logo up close, it lack creativity. I'm simply talking about the U in Spurs btw.

I think it looks great. The silver-and-black is high contrast and simple- striking without being gaudy or distracting. The dark neutral colors do a great job of creating contrast between the game lines/zones and the floor, and it looks steely and mechanical- exactly what we want the other team to feel like it's up against.

There is, however, a 100% chance that my opinion is influenced by my pro-Spur bias... haha.

I would trade our court for the Oregon floor, though- without question the coolest basketball court design of all time (aside from the fact that the midcourt line is hard to see): http://cdn2.sbnation.com/imported_assets/633239/2011-january-13-23-26-46.jpeg.pagespeed.ce.pid5sazvmr.jpg
