I had quite a few injuries last year including my top picks. But I was also lucky enough to pick up some players like Meeks that played well due to an injured player. This is by far the toughest league that I have been in. A couple top 3 finishes in how many years now? Still no championship...

I haven't had the abiltiy to grab one of those lucky free agents in years now. The waiver wire has been mostly a wasteland for me. I'm usually about 4-6 hours behind WB and Fran for getting to a player. Maybe Im' missing a phone alert system or something, whatever the reason I can't compete on the waiver wire in this league.
For the record, I can't watch any games (I haven't been able to for several years). My waiver wire acumen has been based almost completely on news updates, my own personal research, and more often than not, my gut feeling. Of course, I tend to drop more often too because of my gut feeling, which has helped quite a few people in this league.
Last year, I grabbed Terrence Jones after one good game because I remembered he had potential the year before. I was frankly surprised that he was just sitting there. It had nothing to do with getting there seconds after a good game (I believe I picked him up a few days later). The thing I despise about changing the waiver wire rules is that it puts everyone on an equal footing, particularly those who don't deserve one. So yes, I may be one of those waiver wire vultures, but it also takes a lot of hard work and focus (none of which has anything to do with watching games or having a time advantage). In a league this competitive, I think implementing waiver wire rules that put people on equal footing just gives the lazy an advantage they don't deserve. Sorry to be so curt, but that's my opinion.
Now, fortunately, me being here in Italy and my very little time to devote to research is going to keep me mostly off the waiver wire hunt until at least January. So there will be more pickings for everyone else. You're all welcome!
