nobody can offer Drummond the amount the Pistons can. It's not the same situation as Monroe. He's not going to leave a 5 year max (if offered) on the table. He would get his QO and then a 4 year deal a year later, leaving a lot of money on the table.Snakebites wrote:Offer him that and hope that he takes it.
Hope that Monroe leaving money on the table to get out of Detroit doesn't become a trend.
Whatever the max might be, that's what Drummond will be seeking, and hopefully by then he'll have shown enough to demonstrate that he deserves it.

Right. Because LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Howard, etc didn't pass up a 5 year max.... You guys have your heads in the clouds if you think that Drummond staying is an absolute guarantee.

None of those players had to pick between the qualifying offer and a max contract. Your analogy doesn't work because they all got max contracts the next year anyway. They simply didn't get that extra guaranteed year at the end. They didn't sacrifice anything, where as Drummond would be sacrificing millions.

It's not between a QO and a max deal. It's between a max deal with the Pistons or being traded and taking a 4 year deal with another team.

If this team doesn't improve, don't go expecting an unhappy Olympian and superstar center to want to remain on a subpar team.
Kevin Love didn't want it. Dwight Howard didn't. Pau Gasol got out. Superstars get what they want. That's how the NBA works.

epheisey wrote:I want him back as much as the next guy. But to pretend like there is no possibility that he leaves is somewhat comical. Remember a few months ago when everyone was saying: "There is absolutely, positively, no way Monroe ever signs the QO." And there my point stands. Drummond isn't GUARANTEED to be here. Sure it's most likely, probably 75% chance at least, that he at least starts an extension here in Detroit. But it all hinges on this team going from lottery to playoffs real soon, and it's not looking promising right this moment.
But sure, since some people throw a fit when someone suggests that their golden child could leave, then I guess no one should bring it up. It's all roses and bubbles here with the Pistons....
