Re: Offseason Thread 6: The Not So Mexican Stand-off Continu
I wonder how Hornacek is dealing with this. He had his best success with both Goran and Bledsoe. And now he has to start planning the season with the possibility that Eric will not be there. So does he start Goran and IT, if this drags on into the season?
Also, lots of decent players on this squad, but not so much great players, which may make playing time hard to divvy up.

I could see this going any direction at this point. No idea what Bledsoe will do, no idea how much we want him here. I would like to see us keep him and move forward with this backcourt, because I think we can be (could have been??) really, really good this year.
bwgood77 wrote:I think chances of a S&T are almost nil. Sacramento makes more sense, because they at least have a young asset we could use and Bledsoe would more likely want to play there. They have plenty of money for a max after this year when Gay comes off the books. The only problem is, would we want all their filler? We could mostly get expirings along with Stauskas. If we could get Stauskas and a pick, it might be worth it. We likely don't compete in the top 4-5 teams in the west for the next 3-4 years anyway, so more young assets could help.
Yeah, I think a S&T would have to be complicated to work. I think Stauskas is a bad fit for us because we don't have any PT to offer. I'd move him along to Charlotte for Vonleh, though. Wouldn't happen.

If we lose Bledso, I think the starting backcourt will be Goran and Gerald. ofcourse thats if we dont get a starting guard in the trade for him.

I don't know if Stauskas is a bad fit, especially with Green becoming a free agent next year. We may need floor stretchers more especially when Warren starts to play more. I also love Vonleh, but I don't see them trading him.

I think Green deserves to start the way he played last year.
The only thing is that his fire power off the bench was so helpful to our second unit.

But now that firepower can come from Thomas and Warren.

What is going to happen with eric bledsoe?
Alex Kennedy:
I think he’s going to sign the qualifying offer and then be an unrestricted free agent next summer, just like Greg Monroe.

Re: Offseason Thread 6: The Not So Mexican Stand-off Continu
again, if Bled takes the QO, I'd respect his decision and then tell him that we're going to start IT next to Dragic as we're working for our future. He's not demonstrated any willingness (per our reports) to sit at the negotiating table and therefore isn't really exhibiting any interest in being a part of our future. He can ride the bench and wait for a trade to come up.

All this talk about offering Bledsoe similar contracts to what Hayward and Parsons got is way off base. First of all, those guys are bigs and secondly, they've remained healthy. Big difference!

Maybe even tell him to stay home and stay healthy while we work out a sign and trade. I don't know. It might be healthier for the team in the long run.

We can't tell him to do anything, he is a FA. Restricted, but still a FA.
To your other point, both of those guys got offers, as well, where Bledsoe got nothing.

After he signs the QO he'll be under contract. Next summer he'll be an UFA.

Re: Offseason Thread 6: The Not So Mexican Stand-off Continu
You can sit at home under contract. Chemistry is high on this team and is key to success. I want Bledsoe but he's not to spoil the pot with his tactics. On a 1 year deal, it's pretty clear its over with him wearing a Suns uni on the court. Keeping him home places pressure on him to accept ANY deal that comes his way. In a contract year, he really needs to hang numbers to earn that max money. If he sits 1) he doesn't get injured and therefore maintains his stock and 2)protects our team's chemistry. The only negative is that it draws poor attn to our team as a free agent destination. Otherwise, someone will want Bledsoe and will offer up something as a means to undercut other teams awaiting the Summer free agency.

Am I the only one that has no clue what this guy is talking about? Once he decides to play for the QO (or a 1-year contract for any amount) it's almost a certainty he won't be traded. Maybe some of you google sleuths out there can find a time when someone under the QO was traded. It doesn't happen often.
Also, if he's here on a one year deal, he's still going to play. This team proved last year they want to win ball games. He'll be a key rotation player even if they decide to start Thomas for some reason.
