2014 Affiliate Changes / Expansion Teams

Post#1 » by flasah » Mon Mar 10, 2014 4:24 am

The New York Knicks will leave Erie for a new Westchester, NY team:
http://nypost.com/2014/02/26/knicks-pla ... te-plains/

The Springfield Armor will move to Grand Rapids next season, a hybrid affiliation with the Pistons:
http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/ ... -leag.html

The Portland Trailblazers will end their affiliation with Idaho:
http://www.idahostatesman.com/2014/02/2 ... ement.html

The Orlando Magic want a one-to-one affiliate, and Erie is now available:
http://www.ridiculousupside.com/2014/2/ ... a-d-league

The Minnesota Timberwolves want a one-to-one affiliate, maybe the Iowa Energy:
http://www.ridiculousupside.com/2014/2/ ... a-d-league

Now the Pelicans and Grizzlies want their own affiliates for next year:
https://twitter.com/stevekylerNBA/statu ... 2794262528

Maybe now Orlando and Miami can get their teams close to home. If they had teams in northern Florida, and Mem & NO had teams in Mississippi, Alabama or eastern Tennessee, you could finally have a southeastern division.

The Phoenix Suns are expected to partner with the Bakersfield Jam,
while the Utah Jazz are expected to sign with the Idaho Stampede.
http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2014/04/like ... liate.html
That would leave 14 teams to share Fort Wayne & Iowa:

Erie Bayhawks - Hybrid affiliate of the Orlando Magic
Fort Wayne Mad Ants - 13! affiliates see below
Grand Rapids Drive (formerly Springfield Armor) - Hybrid affiliate of the Detroit Pistons
Maine Red Claws - Hybrid affiliate of the Boston Celtics
Westchester Knicks - Owned by the New York Knicks

Central Division
Austin Toros - Owned by the San Antonio Spurs
Iowa Energy - Hybrid affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies
Rio Grande Valley Vipers - Hybrid affiliate of the Houston Rockets
Sioux Falls Skyforce - Hybrid affiliate of the Miami Heat
Texas Legends - Hybrid affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks
Tulsa 66ers - Owned by the Oklahoma City Thunder

Western Division
Bakersfield Jam - Hybrid affiliate of the Phoenix Suns
Idaho Stampede - Likely hybrid affiliate of the Utah Jazz
Los Angeles D-Fenders - Owned by the Los Angeles Lakers
Reno Bighorns - Hybrid affiliate of the Sacramento Kings
Santa Cruz Warriors - Owned by the Golden State Warriors

Teams known to be interested in one-to-one affiliation:
Minnesota, New Orleans, Toronto

Washington, Charlotte, Atlanta, Indiana, Chicago,
Milwaukee, Denver, LA Clippers, Brooklyn, Portland

Possible realignment:

The Iowa Energy have signed an affiliation deal with the Memphis Grizzlies:
http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/ ... d/8737929/
They had three other offers that all required relocation, one to another country (presumably Canada)

Kinda awkward for Fort Wayne now, being shared by 13 affiliates.
