Agreed.

Would be great if Rasual Butler is just a stand in to play the Ray Allen role (old guy spot up shooter) during camp, and then we sign Allen right before the season and just plug him into an offense where everybody already knows how to play with that type of player. At that point, all he'll have to do is make shots.

Grunfeld planning ahead! :D

They won championships and could've won more. The Spurs makes a wise decision and was able to keep their veterans in- tact and all the negative comments about how old they are and they're done. Well, with all of the talent in the West, they dominate and are the Champions.

The endless complaints about how old this team has become and how we're slow, lost our athleticism is really crazy. Oh, it's not fair to select too many veterans, we need to give the youth a chance to make the team. Give me a break! Nothing should be handed out to anyone, if they can't outplay a veteran, they don't need to be on the team! Who wants to invest their precious time on watching a losing team again, we've been there and done that! So what if this team is athletic, I rather watch a team that plays the right way than be entertained with a 360 dunk and you're team's trailing by 10-20 points! So it's awesome to make the news and be the laughing stocks of the NBA huh? I'm no longer interested in watching a lottery team and waiting patiently for the development of a player that never develops! We've been there and done that and it was a waste of time!

Perhaps some of you aren't really interested in this team at all and would prefer that old Wizards' team that were one of the youngest in the NBA. Some show flashes of athleticism and had POTENTIAL but years to develop. I'm sure if you're looking to be entertained, you can find a team that is rebuilding and can find very few veterans and alot of youth with atheleticism. I'm sure it would be fascinating to post your comments on your chances on winning the lottery.

As for me, I like the direction of this franchise and their new motto "DC Rising". I love the balance of both youth and veterans and how our top youths are eager to learn and enhance their game with no egos. I like what Pierce will bring to this team, I like the possibility of what Allen may bring to this team. I'm excited about Pierce comments on Winning NOW, a Championship. No more talk about winning in 2-3 years or when or if Durant's decision is DC. NOW is the time to win a championship. I don't see this team rating below a 2, anything lower would be a disappointment. Excited about the upcoming season and the future of this team.

When's the last time they dominated the East? If Pierce and Allen can go back to that year, we'd all be excited. Ray Allen at 39 years old and watching him get destroyed on defense in the playoffs a few months ago doesn't excite me. I want the guys at the end of the bench to be talented young players to groom for the future.

The Celtics won the championship 2007-2008 year and Miami dominated the East starting 2010-2011. I definitely want our future team in Wall, Beal, Otto and Rice get plenty of time on the floor. I don't think on terms that brining in veterans mean less time for our youth. I look at it as an on hand experience for the team and how to be able to play and handle the pressure during close games, especially maintaining their composure. I don't agree with playing our starters too many minutes and by the time the 2nd part of the season they don't have the legs and strength. Coach will need to be wise on managing their time. How to continue to play under pressure and maintain their professionalism at the same time. So do you think the way Kawhi Leonard maintaining his composure during the finals had anything to do with playing alongside the likes of Duncan, Ginoboli and Parker?

I agree with most of what cdoug says, especially the last paragraph. I too like the mix of youth and vets that the Zards have put together. (For those of you looking for youth, did you see where the Zards might have John Stockton's son David on the training camp roster? Gotta love those bloodlines.)

Maynor is long gone, jwiz. Time to stop using him as an argument for anything that the Zards do or don't do.

For the record, I have no problem with bringing in veterans. I love Gooden, Miller and I believe I was the only Al Harrington supporter on this board last year. I would like veterans worth a damn though...

and i won't stop harping on it. Farts leave stains.

Farts leave stains? Really? Well, if they do those stains have been more than cleaned up by the team's more recent moves, such as the offseason signings of Pierce, Humphries and Blair.

Maynor is yesterday's news.

I liked Harrington and his passion for the game as well. I just didn't post my thoughts on him.

Duncan, Parker and - to some extent - Ginobili played at an all-star level with Leonard. Allen can barely play, at this point. Allen could help mentor Beal, but as a player, I think he's pretty much useless at this point.

I'm somewhere in the middle of where you guys are. Allen could be a great off the bench provided he still has something left in the tank. I agree his defense is sub-par at this stage in his career but I think the Wizards defense may be better than Miami's in covering up Allen's weaknesses, well at least for last season with a hobbled Dwayne Wade and a fatigued LeBron James. Allen can still hit clutch shots as he did in game 6 for Miami in 2013. Of course, a big problem in acquiring Allen is that Rice and/or Porter could see less playing time to develop.

Exactly my point. Ernie can bring as many veterans as he wants. I don't have a problem with it. But get people that can actually contribute. Rasual Butler....really?

Allen can still hit clutch shots as he did in game 6 for Miami in 2013. Of course, a big problem in acquiring Allen is that Rice and/or Porter could see less playing time to develop.

How is Porter going to see less time, is he a SF?

Exactly my point. Ernie can bring as many veterans as he wants. I don't have a problem with it. But get people that can actually contribute. Rasual Butler....really?

As many games they play in the NBA, any given night any player would appear sluggish in a game. Ray doesn't look the least bit sluggish in this video. :D

The wings in this offense are interchangeable so Allen could play either the 2 or 3. You could see a lineup where Allen plays small forward especially if the 3 is a small forward who isn't much of an offensive threat, to hide Allen's defense.

cdouglas wrote:Interesting, when Boston had Pierce, Garnett and Allen all I heard on the board was "THEY'RE OLD" and at one time they dominate the East. The Heat put together 3 of the top prime players and surrounded them with veterans and all the complaints on how OLD they were and they dominated the East for years.

Balance is the key. If they add a young guy for each Pierce or, potentially, Allen, then noone would complain.

The only things about older players is they are sometimes fragile like Nene, or broken down like Nash, or liabilities on defense as Pierce was at SF last season.

The key to utilizing older players is the kind of balance San Antonio had. Green, Leonard, Splitter, and even Parker are young or in their athletic primes.

This season the Wizards will be fine age-wise. I would say they have terrific balance with respect to age/experience.

I agree with most of what cdoug says, especially the last paragraph. I too like the mix of youth and vets that the Zards have put together. (For those of you looking for youth, did you see where the Zards might have John Stockton's son David on the training camp roster? Gotta love those bloodlines.)

Maynor is no long gone, jwiz.

Farts are gaseous. What my son calls a shart is what you think is gonna come out fart but ends up causing load. Liquid and/or solid. Big time stain. Farts that leave stains are sharts.

Maynor contributed a legacy. I honestly never have known why he is nicknamed fart. Mike Dunleavy sharted on national tv while wearing Duke white shorts, but I guess it was such a miserable experience folks chose to forget. He played through it unfazed, to his credit.

Grin - Lyrical, I like you, dude. But....

:-)

That was mostly tongue-in-cheek.

Mostly...
