GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Some NFL players use politically correct, middle-of-the-road answers when contract years come around.

Not Jordy Nelson.

Nelson
The Green Bay Packers standout receiver is not playing any games. He is not talking about leaving his options open or seeing what the market might present.

Rather, he is stating his desire, something he did last week during the Packers' organized team activities and again Sunday at a charity softball game that formerly belonged to Packers' legends Brett Favre and Donald Driver but now bears the Nelson name.

"My wife and I have enjoyed it," Nelson said Sunday of his time in Green Bay. "Let's see, it's 6 years going on 7 years now. We don't want to go anywhere else. We love it here. We want to be here, and hopefully we can get to that point."

Last week, Nelson expressed confidence that he would get an extension done with the Packers before too long. The 29-year-old former second-round pick is in the final season of a three-year, $12.6 million extension that turned out to be a bargain for the team, considering Nelson's productivity.

He has a pair of 1,200-plus yard seasons in the last three years, including a career-best 1,314 yards last season.

Driver's retirement after the 2012 season and James Jones' departure in free agency this offseason has left Nelson as the elder statesman among the Packers' receivers. That the Packers have lost that pair plus Greg Jennings in free agency since the end of the 2012 season could make keeping Nelson all the more important.

As for Nelson, he does not seem to be concerned about hurting his bargaining power by going public with his preference to remain with the Packers.

Nor does he seem like he has given his agent, Vann McElroy, any directives to try to make up for any money he might have left on the table by signing his last extension before his statistical spike of the last three years.

"What I got in that last deal, I'll never spend it all anyway," Nelson said last week. "So I'm not worried about it."

I think we'll be able to keep both. It sounds like Jordy isn't out for blood in this contract, and would probably take any reasonable deal we offer him.

7 year / $0 deal since he doesn't need the money, IMO! ;)

Eta: I'd add injury concerns as well.

Hopefully this makes up for my Jones/Nelson blunder.

I didn't realize it was so lopsided!

I think everyone had Cobb's 4th down catch against the bears still on their mind when this poll came out.

I still think we can do a 2 year short term deal with Cobb if there are questions about his production level.

I wouldn't pay Cobb big guaranteed money, but i'd be shocked if he took just a two year deal. The cap is going to be going up quite a bit as the new TV contracts kick in, so there will be a number of teams with money to spend in free agency.

Cobb wasn't a high first round pick with lots of cash already in the bank and he didn't make millions yet on a second contract as Jordy did before signing his recent extension. So for good reason, he's going to want to cash in for as much money as possible, especially guaranteed money. Highly unlikely that Cobb takes any sort of "hometown discount" to remain a Packer and he'll get more than two years in free agency. Obviously though his play the rest of this season will be very important in dictating how much he'll be able to ask for.

Good point, his leverage is going to depend on his play over the length of the season, but I'm wondering if he continues this up and down play of breaking out one game and then disappearing the next. I don't see much consistency. Does he need a full 3 or 4 seconds to get open on longer routes and double moves etc? Or can he get open right away and catch those fastballs?

In the open field there is no question he can be deadly. His long reception juking out 2 bears defenders was amazing. Yet there was one play near the goal-line Rodgers rifles it immediately as Cobb is streaking in the endzone, it's a tight window passed 2 defenders but Cobb can't hang onto the bullet. Jordy makes a similar play later in the game, Cobb doesn't.

I want Cobb to make that play and show he can get open quickly, it's not going to be every week he has all day to find a hole and get open. I'm hesitant to want to pay him big guaranteed long term money if he can't.
