Both of these deals will look GREAT when the cap goes up. Marcus is a meh player, but 5m a year is fair for getting to keep his brother at 8m. Now if only the Suns could get back Robin and pick up Brook Lopez. Phoenix really does love their lesser brothers, they just need to focus more on getting the good ones. Goran and Kieff are a good start!

That's a great deal for Markieff but a little overpaid on Marcus (IMO).

I wonder if Markieff was willing to accept a little lower to keep his bro on the team, because I think he could have easily gotten more in the open market.

I only caught a handful of Suns games last year and while I know Markieff is clearly the better player, I wasn't aware he was considered THAT much better.

Checking the advanced statistics, it seems as though Marcus might be a bit underrated. That might be a steal of a contract.

The Sons have an easier route...Mason Plumlee is the guy they should try for.

The thing about Marcus is that he is not a gamer in crunch time and he doesn't really do very much well enough to put him far above a d-league level player.

I understand that Marcus Morris isn't exactly a 6th man of the year candidate, but how is $5M per a bad deal? Guy is an efficient scorer off the bench and a solid rotational 3/4 on almost any team. Can't see how this isn't a win for Phoenix.

Ha can't believe I forgot about Plumlee. The used to have Blake Griffin's brother too. They need to figure out a way to get all 3 Plumlees. Maybe round out their coaching staff with the Collins brothers.

Actually the contract is more like 52/4, since they come as one "Marcus Unit". Which is 13 mil a season. Their stats should also be added together.

23.9 pts
9.9 rbs
2.9 ast
.8 stl
1.5 blks

Playing 48.6 minutes per game.

That's a pretty sweet deal right there. Those are like top 5 PF numbers. Can't wait to add the Dragic Unit numbers together, for ultimate guard stats.

IIRC they also had Luke Zeller for a bit a few years ago.

Overpay for both. Markieff was probably worth Marcus' contract and Marcus was worth about $12 mil over 3 years.

It looks like Markieff is the alpha twin in the eyes of Sun's management.

i could see a case where the Suns FO sat both brothers down and told them, " we willing to give this one lump sum for the BOTH of you, come back to us another day when you both decide how to split between yourselves."

This has to be one of the most unique negotiating process in history

That's a bum way to look at it. First of all, those stats aren't very good for a per-48 PF. I'd guess they're league average or a little worse for all PFs per minute. Points are fine, rebounds aren't great,steals/blocks are pretty bad. Most starting PFs play around 32 minutes per game, bum their numbers up

Second and more importantly, both Morri give you the exact same look. Your starting PF and your back-up are now the same player: decent shooters who can't create much for themselves, aren't rim protectors or good help defenders, and don't have great size. That might not be a disaster but it's not an advantage.

Overall, I think this was a decent enough gamble but it's still a risk. If neither player improves, or if Markieff's shooting regresses from its huge leap this past season (from 40% to 48%), the Suns will have a lot of money tied up with PFs that aren't quite starting caliber.

I was kidding around. I just thought it was funny that the Suns signed them as a pair.

Markieff is obviously the superior one.
Marcus isn't bad either.

Only thing I worry about as a suns fan is PJ Tucker is the suns best SF.
With a Healthy Bledsoe and addition of Thomas, Gerald Green will see more minutes at SF.
green>marcus.

So now your talking 3rd string and suns first round pick TJ Warren looked real good in summer league I wouldn't be shocked if he passes marcus at some point.

The good thing for marcus is he can play some PF in this system but he would be extremely undersized

Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.

Don't think we got any off on Marcus.
He's worth about $4M per, so we actually overpaid if anything.
He hasn't been a game changer thus far, but at $5M/year for 4 years, I can't complain too much.

I like the Markieff deal a lot. Anyone who watched him play will know that's a good deal for him. $8M per for 4 seasons gives us a solid 3rd big at a good rate if we can ever manage to upgrade our frontcourt.

He really didn't play his first year in Houston either so he could be a year behind Kief in his NBA development. If he has the kind of improvement this year that Kief had last year, it would be huge. He was the better college player.

I wouldn't say Marcus is extremely undersized. He was our starting 4 a couple years ago when we had like 6 PF's on our roster lol. Not saying that he's a typical starting caliber power forward or anything...but he has enough size to get by as a backup.

Slightly good deal on Marcus and amazing deal on Markieff. The Suns are killing the game. After they ship Bledsoe for a great SF they'll have a great squad.
