I think Tony Mitchell is a sure goner. Stan seems pretty smitten with Jerebko given the dedication Jonas has shown the Pistons and new staff this off-season remaining in Detroit and passing on National Team duties because this is a make or break year for him. That gives us Monroe, Smith and Jerebko fighting for PF minutes - little to nothing left for Mitchell, especially when you consider Singler mentioned working on some lower post moves and defense because he was told by Stan that he could play some four in small ball situations. Datome bulked up this off-season as well with designs on PF minutes given Stan's desire for spreading the floor and his shooting abilities.

Mitchell usually looks so indifferent, he's checked out. I wanted to see him go to the D-league last season and dominate either on the boards or on the defensive side of the ball. Vernon Macklin went to the D-League and manhandled the comp, T-Mitch just went there and chilled.

With this new regime headed by a coach who isn't big on positionless athletes, it would behoove T-Mitch to come in with some SF skills and off the charts energy. The sad thing is, I don't expect that at all. Looks like dude is out. Datome would do well to come in with his jumper wet, otherwise he's going to be a practice player.

Jerebko gets high marks as the summer workhorse, but I honestly can't see him breaking into the rotation. JJ's days are numbered IMO.

I think Smith will see some time at SF, though not with Monroe and Dre, but one or the other playing Ce and maybe JJ at the four depending on the match-ups at the time ie need JJ's shooting to draw out the opposing PF, and can use Smith to bully around a smaller SF or something.

I think the forward minutes will break down something like this -

SF Singler 28|Smith 10|Butler 10
PF Smith 22|Monroe 16|Jerebko 10
Ce-Dre 32|Monroe 16
Weaver = Hinkie

SVG was kinda hinting towards Monroe coming off the bench the other day. He was talking about Gray being out but that Monroe can cover the 4 and 5 so we will be ok as far as backup bigs go.

^Or he could start at the four, and slide over to center when Smith comes in off the bench to spell Dre.

Personally, at this juncture, I would rather Monroe come off the Bench backing PF and C.

there's 96 minutes between PF and C, we could have two of smith/Monroe/Drummond on the court at all times and that would give them 32 minutes each, not a bad slice of time for each of them.

obviously there'll be other guys playing those positions for stretches but I think SVG can bring one of them (hopefully Monroe) off the bench, still give all three guys good minutes and always have good frontcourt talent on the floor.

it's gonna be interesting to see who wins all the position battles. if Jennings doesn't play defense I could see augustin being the starting PG, it's gonna be interesting between KCP and meeks as well.

If Monroe truly comes off the bench I got 3-5 rotation looking like this.

Butler/Smith/Singler
Smith/Monroe
Drummond/Monroe

That's crazy -- Butler won't start, not unless you want your starter playing 15 minutes a game and completely screwing up rotations for the 2nd - 4th quarters.

Butler's going to play, but he's going to be in there to exploit matchups that work for him and shoot. Heck, he might even get 20+ minutes a night sometimes, but he's still not going to start. Singler is the placeholder there until we get someone legit to come in.

Nope. Monroe signed the QO and hurt my feelings. He will only get 20-22 minutes max.

@tmorgan: Singler is best utilized as a role player off the bench. Having Butler start (even if it's just for 4 minutes) will give us an advantage because of his shooting and IQ.

Lets say that JSmooth plays 10mpg at SF depending on matchups, then that is 37mpg for Moose/Drum

He'd better be... what a worthless waste of athletic ability TMitch is. He seems to be the very definition of "doesn't work for it." He's a D-League player, and I hope he's not in GR, because that's a waste of a roster spot.

Mitchells deal is guarenteed, however it is no more than about 900k. Hopefully gores is willing to pay that since hes not going to play anyway. Did almost nothing even in summer league and d-league. He just doesnt have the mindset despite all that ridiculous athletcism

I LOVE training camp! S'mores, scary ghost stories, mosquitoes.....The players are going to have such a good time.
