Vegas over/under for Pistons @ 36.5 - What do you bet?

Post#1 » by Kilo » Wed Oct 1, 2014 4:35 pm

I think that's pretty accurate, I might be willing to bet the over, as I could see a ceiling of 39 for us. I can't see us below 35 either, so over seems like a good bet.

Here is the rest -
Cavaliers 58.5
Thunder 57.5
Spurs 56.5
Bulls 55.5
Clippers 55.5
Warriors 50.5
Mavericks 49.5
Raptors 49.5
Rockets 49.5
Wizards 49.5
Grizzlies 48.5
Trail Blazers 48.5
Hornets 45.5
Heat 43.5
Suns 42.5
Nets 41.5
Pelicans 41.5
Hawks 40.5
Knicks 40.5
Nuggets 40.5
Pistons 36.5
Pacers 32.5
Lakers 31.5
Kings 30.5
Magic 28.5
Celtics 26.5
Jazz 25.5
Timberwolves 25.5
Bucks 24.5
76ers 15.5

Other bets I'd like -
Cleveland UNDER - Will take some time to come together and get rolling. I like 53-54 wins for them though.
Golden State OVER - I think these guys are going to really explode this season. Maybe even second seed in the West.
Toronto UNDER - I think a crash back down to earth could happen here. Still a playoff team, but a 6-7-8 seed.
Lakers OVER - Kobe is back and will carry them to greater heights than four more wins over last season.

I don't think the raptors drop below the fourth seed simply because they only team that will really challenge them for the division title is Brooklyn, and they have a lot of question marks. the sixers are... rebuilding, the Celtics are rebuilding, the knicks are the knicks.

i wouldn't bet my own money but I'd say they get over 49.5.

the pistons at 36.5? is that a joke? i feel comfortable saying they'll get 41/42 wins

That's a fair prediction for the pistons.

If one of smith or monroe really embraces coming off the bench, we could easily be over that. If one of them or jennings ends up pouting, we could be back at 29.

Yeah I'm feeling the over for the Pistons, in fact I might drive down to MGM and place a small bet.

It's just nice to see the line higher than our win total last year. Which means the wise guys appreciated the offseason, unlike many on this board. I'm optimistic and would say over, based mostly on SVG joining the team.

That's pretty accurate, I'll take the under right now. I think between 30 and 35 wins is what we're looking at.

The local radio guys here in Ohio think it's a joke the Cavs' over/under is "only" 58.5......

I think we'll go over. The last couple seasons were train wrecks all around and we still managed 29 wins. With Stan coming in and the balance and depth we added from guys like Meeks and Augustin, a 7 game improvement is pretty reasonable.

I'd probably lean towards the under.

If they're right, it means they're predicting a fairly substantial, but not night and day improvement with a relatively narrow playoff miss.

That sounds close to me.

You can't compare it to past seasons. We aren't inserting today's Pistons into the 2013 NBA. We finished 11th in the East last season, and I don't see us ahead of any of those teams this season either. Sure some of them lost talent, but I don't think any team (aside from maybe the Pacers) lost enough for us to bypass them. Then you toss in a team like Milwaukee which could be improved enough to at least compete at the Pistons level and we'll be in a fight to not regress in the standings.

The rest of the league isn't at a stand still while our team is making moves.

I think SVG can be a huge factor this season, but he doesn't exactly have a ton to work with. We'd have to see every player on this team play at their absolute best in order for this team to come close to a .500 record. I think he can make some big changes, and improvements, but I have an incredibly difficult time imagining a situation where every single player on this roster buys in immediately and without question.

Its not that the Pistons are not better but that I see several teams getting better in the east. Every Lottery team improved more than we did. The playoff teams that dropped were the the 2 best teams in the east. If anything I see more parity and although that is a good thing quality wise it means a harder road for the Pistons.

Very good line. Wouldn't touch it.

If I were to bet win totals based on those lines, the most tempting ones to me are:

Heat -- OVER 43.5
Wizards -- UNDER 49.5
Knicks -- UNDER 40.5
Kings -- OVER 30.5

None of them really stick out for me except Miami, though. The Heat aren't going to suck.

^Kings really jumps out at me - I like them for at least 8 more wins as the team sits now and they're super motivated to improve via trade for the NOW.

I think we can win 38-42 games, alot will do with injuries. I think we loose any starter, our dropoff is not as bad as other teams loosing a starter. I think Van Gundy himself is worth ten more wins, Loyer was joke, and Cheeks had them in the ninth spot, and we had no groove to start the season at all. Siva had been our main pg most the preseason. We made small incremental improvements to the roster. I think Augestine could be the real pickup of our summer, and his presence will push Jennings to bring an A game more consistently. I also think KCP, and Smith will have much better seasons. We make the playoffs, and get two more wins in the playoffs than expected to finally gain the momentum we need for the future.

I'd like to think SVG is worth at least 5 more wins alone.

Adding Meeks and DJ off the bench while playing Smith at the 4 should add another 5

Add a few more for development or buy ins and .500 isn't too much of a stretch
