LOOMING EXTENSIONS
The team is already in extension talks with Crabtree and from what I read, he may be willing to take an incentive laden deal, which is great......Perrish Cox, the way he's been playing will probably be signed to an extension in the next couple months before he gets too expensive....What about Alex Boone? He is still shaking off the rust, but when in form he is very good, and because of his versatility to play OT he is more important than Iupati IMO, not to mention will be cheaper to extend. So I think you can add him to the priority list. And lastly, Aldon Smith. A definite must keep, despite everything that's happened with him. Our best pass rusher since Haley. I can see maybe something being worked out with him after the season.
PS: Kendall Hunter would be a cheap 1 year re-sign too. Not a lot of mileage on him, he is a good change of pace back and knows the system. Now, if Lattimore shows promise this season, it may not matter then.

Re: LOOMING EXTENSIONS
Unless Iupati signs on the cheap... its unfortunate but he may be the walking...
I want to keep my core OL(Staley,Iupati,Boone,Davis) through the end of time if possible but unfortunately it wouldn't be wise to "tie" more money to the OL. Something got to give you know...
there's also Thomas, not proven as a replacement however highly regarded as a top G in the draft should he had stayed healthy. So we have an answer ATM to a Iupati departure(if)

Iupati has not looked very impressive this season so far, and I dont think he was great last year either, good but not great. I'd rather keep Boone.

Iupati had really good game against the Bears when Staley was playing like crap (usually if one looks bad the other does too). He was bad against Dallas. I didn't really pay too much attention to his play against the Cards, but how did he play against the Eagles?

Off hand I felt he had a pretty good game and I can only think of one time he went Lungepati and gave up pressure.
As the norm he looked good in the running game and hopefully his early issues were him just getting his legs back from under him due to his injury in the NFC Championship game.
He's as good as gone after this season though as some team is going to go higher than what the 9ers want to pay him. Let's just hope it's not the Seahawks.

If it's an incentive laden deal like has been the rumored I would be onboard with it.
If he performs and is on the field he gets paid and if he's not on the field performing he doesn't.

I doubt it will be Seattle. They have already invested heavily in their secondary, DE Michael Bennett, Harvin, and Russell Wilson still needs to get paid. And I am sure Lynch will want a new contract as well.

Re: LOOMING EXTENSIONS
I wouldn't even be ok with an incentive-laden deal for Crabby. He brings nothing to the offense that Stevie Johnson doesn't bring, and he's not going to sign a deal w/ incentives unless there's a really good chance he's going to achieve those incentives.
I've been saying it since 2011: The Niners need a legit' deep-threat WR to add to the bunch of possession receivers they have. I wanted 'em to trade for Steve Smith in 2011 or sign Mike Wallace or draft Brandin Cooks or some of the other faster WRs who were out there over the last 3 seasons. They never did, and the offense has never gotten any more dynamic (the actual meaning of 'dynamic,' not the way sportscasters use it during games: meaning more diverse).
Go w/ Stevie & Boldin next year + a draft pick & Ellington / Patton.

Keep in mind Crabby is 7 years younger than Boldin, and we only have Boldin for 1 more year. Crabby is 27 and has a quite a few years left. Gotta think long term. If the deal is right, meaning good for the team, I will take it...As for the WRs, I wanted them to trade up this past spring and draft Odell Beckham and last year I wanted Markus Wheaton, but he went to the Steelers and is producing. Baalke has yet to draft a good WR, but he has shown the ability to be able to trade for one, see Boldin and Stevie.

I agree with this. Keep Crabby as the possession type WR because Boldin won't be around very long. Then we really need Baalke to step up to the plate and draft a legitimate deep threat WR in the first round. Missed several opportunities in recent drafts. Would strongly prefer a typical big fast first round WR to fill this void. We're probably going to need that missing piece to move this offense forward as we inevitably transition away from Gore as he fades off into the sunset.

Re: LOOMING EXTENSIONS
a player like a Torrey Smith would be a good compliment for Crabs as it was for Boldin...

Totally agree. In lieu of being able to get a Megatron or AJ Green, a guy like Torrey Smith, Mike Wallace, Desean Jackson, Brandin Cooks and so on would FINALLY make the offense more versatile.
And I would take Crabby back if his deal were "good for the team," but that's not going to happen IMO. Crabs will get close to 9 million per on the open market IMO, and that contract wouldn't be god for the team IMO.
This is why I'm in the DGB camp for April (so far).

Re: LOOMING EXTENSIONS
Iupati can kick rocks. Next year Brandon Thomas can start at LG. Aldon has to be the top priority for an extension, with a lot of character clauses of course. Second should be Crabtree.
I'm not sure if we're allowed to extend Cox. There's some random loophole that came up a couple years ago. We signed a veteran FA for $1 over the league minimum to maintain the right to sign him to an extension before he became a FA. Is Cox making league minimum this year? If he is, we can't extend him until FA starts.

Re: LOOMING EXTENSIONS
Stevie Johnson is only 28, and he's signed through 2016. He can fill in for Crabtree just fine.
The Niners are devoting about an average of like 6 million for Boldin, Crabby, Stevie & Vernon each this year; they're devoting less than 2 million per starting CB. If they sign a big FA it needs to be a CB or a DL to replace Ray / JSmith. Big money for Crabtree would be monumentally stupid.
Or at the very least, if they do sign a WR, he should be a deep threat; the Niners have plenty of possession guys.

What about all the talk of Stevie's routes being "weird?" I know you started the "DumbDumb" train, so would Baalke be making a right move to drop Crab for a player with whom Colin has no rapport?
I'm hoping the reports of any inconsistency are temporary matters. Johnson did well under Fitzpatrick, but Colin didn't go to Harvard.

Is Suh the big FA at DL? a 34 DE I think it works and really valued BECAUSE Fangio's defenses relies on 4 man pressures, more than anything... it sucks cuz he hardly opens up the blitzes, even when they work! any hoot, Suh... that's a name to look at...Suh at one end, Aldon at the other....
