Ray Allen signs w/ Cavs...

Post#1 » by nickforthreee » Thu Oct 2, 2014 5:43 am

What would the closing lineup be? Ray is a must, one of if not the clutchest shooters in history.

LeBron
Kyrie
Love
Ray
?

I feel like Dion would have some issues with not being out there... so i guess him?

Varejao, I'm not positive that Allen would be a given.

Waiters had a ettercatch and shoot FG% than Allen last year. Maybe we can fill that last spot with Robert Horry, he's one of the most clutch shooters in NBA history too.

Closing games out still requires defense too, right?

Irving/Waiters/LeBron/Love/Varejao

or

Irving/Waiters/Miller or Marion/LeBron/Love

Time to take the "If" off...

Has there ever been a legitimate contender team that looks this bad on paper defensively?

Feel bad for Joe Harris, welcome to the d-league.

Too bad he didn't want to come play with LeBron the offseason we signed Larry Hughes.... Oh what could have been. Anyways..

Welcome aboard Ray Ray!

I'm in shock after reading some of the comments. Most Cleveland fans seem to have no idea how much impact Ray Allen can still make despite his age. This is the man who manhandled the Spurs and won the championship for the Heat in 2013, who rained 3 pointers to devastate the Nets and Pacers to help the Heat win the East last season. To be frank, Waiters and the Australian guy are nowhere near the player Allen is, ESPECIALLY in playoffs.

And if Cleveland were to get an elite shooter in Allen, who do they sign instead of Damon Jones and Donyell Marshall?
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Yeah you're wrong. Allen is pretty average or below average in every area of basketball now besides shooting the three. He doesn't have the ability to play big minutes either.

He did hit the greatest shot ever but he never man handled the spurs.

I don't know what paper you're looking at but they look pretty great "on paper" defensively.

Any team with LeBron, Marion and Varejao is going to be a good defensive team. I don't even have to get into how Synergy shows us that Love and Allen were good defensively last season.

Add that Tristan Thompson is a good shot blocker when playing center and that Brendan Haywood is also good defensively as a 7 footer, and we see that this team is very strong defensively on paper.

That simply isn't true. Allen does a lot more than just shoot threes. He is very smart - high basketball IQ - has good vision - is a good passer with that IQ and vision - and defensively he's also very smart player, normally in great position, and rated above average on D on several play types last season according to Synergy. He does a little more than just shoot threes on offense as well... ask the Spurs when he dunked on them in the Finals. But he can definitely still create a little bit.

His main weakness to me is ball handling - when he tries to dribble too much he turns the ball over. Other than that he's very solid overall as a guard. That's why Spoelstra rarely took Allen out of games late and also why several teams are still vying for his services even at this age.

So Ray Allen is very underrated when it comes to his intelligence when he's playing. He's a very smart player.

He's smart but just not that great anymore. He's terrible defensivley and his passing is pretty average man.

Did you watch the playoffs closely last year? Ray has a lot in the tank in crunch time when needed. Really!

Actually Bosh and Allen should thank Pop for benching Duncan with an NBA title at stake. If Duncan was in the game good chance he would be down there to block Bosh out, making it that much harder for the Heat to get a rebound out to their shooters. IMO the Spurs lost game 6 because of that foolish move on Pop's part benching Duncan. Duncan played the whole OT of game 6 and was in the game in the closing moments of game 7. Glad the Spurs got redemption and beat the Heat 4-1 in 2014. One of Pop's poorest decisions he ever made as an NBA coach at the wrong time. Duncan should have been in the game to finish game 6 in regulation. IMO that Heat NBA title should have an asterisk next to it, since the Spurs just gave the Heat an NBA title. They were the better team in that series imo.

You guys better hope the Thunder knock them off in the WCF assuming the Cavs make the 2015 NBA finals. I think they will beat the Cavs 4-2 if that is the finals matchup. I think the Cavs have a good shot at beating the Thunder, Clippers in the finals, but the Spurs, it will be hard.
