It is hard to even look at Rivera or G-Man after knowing all of this much less like them.

Rivera seemed like a victim of the situation.A coach in the NFL is at the wim of his GM for the most part. You can't tell me that Rivera was in league with gentlemen in leaving our O-Line like this....

I want Gettleman gone. Rivera has been set up as has Cam to be scapegoats.

Even with as bad as losing smith was for our team, there really wasn't another possible outcome. I mean, what, were we supposed to sacrifice the ability to re-sign Cam or make the other free-agent acquisitions we were able to make in order to him?

No matter which way you look at it, our team, at every position except along the offensive line- something that was unavoidable given the number of retirements and injuries we've had, we are a better football team then last year.

We, for the first time in Cam Newton's career, have multiple wide-outs that are worth a damn for him to throw to. Despite how much I love Smith, and having been a Panthers fan my entire life I love the man something fierce, I have to admit that our current squad of Benjamin -- Cotchery -- Avant is lightyears better then anything we have had since the days when Smith and Muhammed were on the field together.

Is this going to be our "Darling" year? No, probably not. But, there is a light in the darkness in the fact that Cam has been able to run our offense quiet well given that he has NO running game to speak of to help him for the first time in his career.

Players and agents talk. These guys will say how Gettleman treated them and he will never get the cap in order. He will have to way outbid to get players here because nobody wants to play for a jerk. The Panthers will be what the clippers used to be. Everyone who has talked ont he sunbject has ssaid the first impression of Gettleman was he is a jerk. This is the guy who has to recruit players to come play here. People in the media are saying he is throwing Cam under the bus without a line this year to drive down his price. If this is the reputation of your GM nobody will want to be here. Hurney was too soft so Richardson went to far the other way to compensate. We need a smart GM who know the game according to the way it is played in the century. Gettleman needs to be let go for the future of this team.

You actually believe this? Will you still believe it when they miss the playoffs and go 7-9 if not worse.

The offensive line is horrendous. The running backs are awful (the contracts to both of them have screwed this team for years). The WRs have no deep threat besides a Benjamin jump ball. None can stretch the field. The defensive line isn't as good as it was last year. Hardy and Johnson had a career year together, that wasn't going to last. They don't get any pressure. The secondary is getting exposed because the DL isn't good.

The Panthers are not a good football team. They beat a top 3 worst team in the NFL and a team that is middle of the road, border line playoff team.

I enjoy your optimism, but this team isn't good. And if you really want to be honest then last year they were more lucky than good and that is clearly visible by their close wins compared to last year and the years previous.

Sure, I'll go so far as to say that we are a better team than we were last year, especially at this point in the season.

Last year we started off the season by scoring just 7 points in week one, then blowing a late game lead against Buffalo in week 2, we then caught a Giants team off-guard before we were absolutely mauled by a Cardinals team that was still discovering itself.

We were 1-3 last year, and while we had 2 tough games in that stretch, there is no way we shouldn't have beat the Bills and our offensive display against the Seahawks was woeful, with Cam Newton putting up 125 yards..... Not to mention we really should have been able to compete with the Cards, instead they mauled us....

Following those three games we had a stretch of luck where we played 3 of the worst teams in the NFL in the Rams, Vikings, and Bucs before we had to go back into the big-boy leagues. Those games gave us confidence.
------------------------------

Also, let's remember who we have lost to this year before we start calling for Doomsday.

A) the Steelers- They have the 5th best offense in the NFL...

B) the Ravens- who are looking more and more like an AFC elite. I can understand the perception that their victories came out of no-where if you haven't been watching them. Their defense is underrated, and their offense get's the job done with a variety of looks. They have 3 headed RB squad that keeps teams guessing. And, that squad features the player with the highest YPC in the league right now.... Not to mention they play Smith in the slot, a place we all knew he would be dangerous at.

-------------------------------

So we have lost 2 games guys... 2 games. And against talented teams at that. Moreover, it isn't like we are only beating up on the little guys- we absolutely thrashed the Lions, a team that is 3-1 after facing the Giants and Packers. And we beat the Bucs with a backup QB......

If we lose this week it could spell trouble for us as we enter a tough run in the schedule. But, in the very worst case, we are simply waiting out until cam is healthy enough to run again.

Personally I find it completely impossible to be as good as we were last year due to one main thing.

And thats the loss of Jordan Gross.

People keep talking about the loss of Smith, but that isn't anything compared to the loss of our pro bowl left tackle. Going from a multiple time pro bowler in his prime to one of the worst left tackles in the league in Byron Bell is a huge, huge blow. Not to mention that Newton is only 70% and is about as mobile as Drew Brees right now.

They need to fix the O-Line big time, the only above average player on is Kalil, the others are average or worse. I think Turner and Silatolu could be good guards one day but the tackle situation is horrible we literally have a DT starting at RT and the other is about 40 pounds too heavy and moves like a 90 year old lady

I agree. Gross was planning on playing a few more years until last season from what I have heard. He disliked Gettleman so much he decided it was time to call it quits. I think we will see that we are going to have a hard time getting new guys in or keeping our guys without overpaying. People won't want to play for a guy like Gettleman when they talk to guys who have been here.

I don't think hes done a bad job at all thus far. Handled the Smith situation terribly, though.

The Smith quotes are all over the internet and the Gross information I heard on the radio so I don't have a link. He did start by saying that he did not like Gettleman much when he first met him when he retired. Also it was reported by someone on the radio the other day that we never even talked to Collins people. So the report we were in the running there was a bogus leak to get people to believe they were trying to fix the line.

What stuff do you want backed? He is a poor excuse for a GM that should never have been hired in the first place. From what I understood we interviewed the top guy available for the Giants then hired there has been.
