Running back Eddie Lacy has spent the lion’s share of his football career in a traditional offense — either as the lone back or in an I formation, with the quarterback under center. Following the team’s trend, he has been much more productive out of shotgun, though. This season, he’s carried 19 times for 81 yards (4.26 average) out of the gun compared to 34 carries for 80 yards (2.35 average) with Rodgers behind center.

Well.... err.... I guess we need more shotgun draws
That is shocking always seems like the shotgun draws are massive failures.

I think there are a few reasons why
1. Our tight ends are below average to bad blockers for their position and often when Rodgers is under center, we have multiple tight ends in the game run blocking poorly.
2. When in shotgun with 3-4 receivers in the game, it spreads out the defense more and the defense is likely thinking pass first.
3. That stat can be skewed by short yardage situations. Often on say 3rd or 4th and one situations where we run with Rodgers under center and 2 tight ends/a fullback in the game, those type of runs typically will on gain a yard or two as intended.
Speaking of those situations, i've long wondered why so many NFL teams consistently put 8-9-10 guys on the line of scrimmage in short yardage situations? The defense will then respond in kind and thus there will be such a massive pile of bodies in a small area, to where even a good block or two can prevent a successful run simply because so many bodies are there or on the ground. Why not put 2-3 receivers out there more often to spread the defense out and lessen the pile of humanity in a small area?
