This article has some incredible insight into how Harbaugh works. I saw somewhere the suggestion that Harbaugh is Deion's source to use it to motivate the team and bring them together.

Naaaah....

But who knows if a player who was let go could have fired a parting shot or two? Deion got a story and the player gets to be a smug bastard.

LMJ?

I really wanted to say that, but unfortunately I don't have Deion's connections.

Thanks for adding the link. I thought I'd read the same article, but I guess it had been edited by another source that cut 30-45% of the "sinking" feeling of the original article.

That being said, we've got a red herring on our hands if Cody Pickett becomes a winning yet douche-y coach. (I failed so badly with the 1 man Cody wagon.)

Now Jay Glazer is saying that he doesn't see any way Harbaugh is back even with a SB win.

That doesn't mean things can't change beforehand but it's not looking good for Harbaugh being back after this season.

My biggest concern though is Tomsula being the favorite for the gig if Harbaugh is gone.

http://football.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/33662/20141004/jim_tomsula_considered_favorite_to_replace_harbaugh_if_he_leaves/

Tomsula is a fantastic coach but

A) In general I don't like defensive minded head coaches because of their overly conservative approach to the game.

B) I don't have confidence that he can assemble a great staff which ultimately was the biggest thing that doomed Singletary when he was the HC.

In terms of the other duties of being a HC I have confidence he could handle it and it wouldn't be like he was completely new to the position since he did have a season in NFL Europe doing it some of that experience is applicable to being a coach in the NFL.

If our contingency plan is Tomsula prepare for another decade of mediocrity. Stupidity at its finest.

You would think that the Singletary fiasco would've been enough of a lesson for them that there is more to being a head coach than being a good motivator.

I would have to see what kind of staff Tomsula could put together before I would throw my support behind him.

Apparently there are reports that the sources for all this are Randy Moss and LMJ.

49ers players want Harbaugh out report

If he is gone then I have no problem with a draft pick compensation bidding war between the Dolphins and Raiders. With the stupidity of those two front offices we could pull off an RGIII like haul. Tomsula could coach the team blindfolded if Baalke hits on the picks.

Browns nearly had Harbaugh for two third-round picks

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... und-picks/

But he (more specifically, his wife) didn’t want to leave the Bay Area, which could put Harbaugh in play for the Raiders job. One league source tells PFT that Harbaugh would “love” to return to the Raiders, where his non-playing career began in 2002 and 2003 as the team’s quarterbacks coach.

How is it possible that I source knows Harbaugh would love to return to the Raiders? Does anyone really think Harbaugh would say that while with the 49ers?? No way.

It's not that hard to believe actually and I'm surprised a lot of fans are having that hard of a time believing SOME of the things that have come out. On the flip side of that, I don't think it'd be wise if everybody believed everything that's come out either. A number of the things that have been reported I am sure have come from people around Harbaugh that know him and his thoughts well as well as what could help him down the road if things continue to go south.

That's why the source is unnamed so Harbaugh could easily deny it but at the same time he could be using that source to send messages out as well because he knows he could potentially be elsewhere next season.

You could argue the 49ers front office is doing the same by leaking there's locker room turmoil and Harbaugh is a difficult person to be around so it makes it easier for them to sell breaking him off after this season to fans.

Michael Smith had a similar theory on NNL:

- Jim leaked out the information that, even if he wins the SB with the 49ers, he won't return to gain leverage in contract talks.

- The 49ers FO leaked out that the players want Harbaugh gone so they'll be have an 'excuse' to trade Harbaugh if it comes down to it.

I'm starting to think Smith is spot on. This is just a pissing match between FO and HC. Unless someone puts their ego aside this won't end well.

This is the line of thinking I'm starting to take as well.

Breaking it all down I don't think Harbaugh really wants to go elsewhere at the moment. He seems comfortable in the Bay area and he's not going to walk into a better situation anywhere else.

From the front office side of things as much as Harbaugh probably grates them the wrong way you can't argue with success and it would be disastrous if they cut Harbaugh lose and the next guy they bring in doesn't achieve the same level of success.

The biggest hangup could be Baalke because if it comes down to it a Baalke or Harbaugh situation there is no question the FO is going to choose Baalke.

In terms of money it's just a leverage battle and I'm sure both sides would work numbers they both can live with.

And that's what all this noise likely is just both sides posturing and gearing up for negations after the season and both sides having outs if they need to use them.
