Preseason 2014 Thread

Post#1 » by azuresou1 » Mon Oct 6, 2014 3:20 am

Preseason starts tomorrow against the 1-0 Pelicans, who beat the Heat 98-86. Anthony Davis had an astounding 3 blocks in 11 minutes. Jimmer and Austin Rivers also had very good games, combining for 29 pts and 9 assists on only 17 shots.

Pero is expected to miss the game due to surgery on his broken nose, as is Baze who is still rehabbing. Horford and DMC are questionable to play.

Things to look for:
- First look at Thabo as a Hawk - he'll likely see big minutes if DMC is out
- Our bench big (Payne, Brand, Muscala) play against a defensive juggernaut front court of Davis/Asik... particularly interested to see if Payne/Muscala can lure them out of the paint and also if they can contain Davis defensively
- If Jenkins has anything left in the tank

Does anyone know of any online streams to watch the game?

A thing of beauty!

I can't wait to get a good look at it in person on 11/1.

It would be nice if the preseason games were televised on some type of platform. Are you going to any of the preseason games, Panda?

I appreciate the offer and might be able to make it if you can't. I think I'm going to use our game in Charlotte on Nov. 7 as a good excuse to go visit my old college roommate up there.

It looks like Jenkins will get the start tonight, with Korver being out. May I request a report on how Jenkins looks tonight. I think I am more interested in his play than any one else. Hopefully, he can show some of that potential from his rookie season when he was last healthy.

Jenkins and Brand getting the starting nod.

This is Jenkins singular best chance to get back in the rotation at SG. Pre-season start. He's finally healthy. Let it fly, young man. I'm still pulling for the kid as SG of the future.

Brand and Millsap will have their hands full against Davis and Asik.

My lasting impression of Omer Asik was made two seaosns ago when, as starting Center for HOU, he avg a whopping 18 rebounds per game in the season series vs ATL. He dominated our tiny front court then. And Anthony Davis looks beastly.

Hope Adreian gets plenty of PT tonight.

Can't wait.

Asik would have been a nice addition, and solidifies the Pelicans frontcourt.

We will develop Payne, and wait for him to contribute. I would like to see him start tonight.

This is a really good point I hadn't even thought of. Thje top two Centers on the depth chart are out and Budenholzer didn't start either Muscala or Adreian Payne.

Could be that A Payne is ensconced as a backup PF (NOT Center), or maybe that he has not fully grasped the offense.

I really hated the way Bud gave so little PT to Muscala and Dennis last season. Hope this won't be an issue this year with 23 year old Adreian.

I believe that he is trying to keep the rotations in tact. He wants to play the second unit in their normal rotation. In a preseason game, it's better to promote a 3rd stringer to starting in place of the usual starter. This allows the second unit to gain chemistry through actual playing time together.

This is why you also see Jenkins starting over Thabo.

edit: Carroll is now listed as out and Thabo will be replacing him.

I am skeptical Bud already has 1st and 2nd string already etched in stone. Especially with new pieces like Thabo, Adreian.

(I've heard speculation Thabo might supplant Demarre in the starting lineup in the regular season as well..)

I agree. I would think that he has an idea of who he wants to give the first shot too though. Thabo starting over Carroll would be great news if it means that Thabo is outplaying Carroll. I expect Carroll to improve some from last season.

They already pulled Jenkins and put mack in at the 7 min mark 1st quarter.

Muscala put some weight on. He's guarding asik .

It's good to see us make quick work of an up and coming Pelicans team that has all but one of their players on the floor tonight.

Dennis looks terrible. Terrible defense. Out of control sloppy passes

Payne fumbles great pass and then airballs 3.

Scott looks really good. Aggressive has 9 points.

I know it's just preseason right now, but watching this team reminds me of watching Floyd Mayweather shoulder roll and pick apart his opponents in the ring.

This is like the polar opposite of the Joe/Josh days, I don't know how anyone can say that Ferry hasn't made this team better.

Payne isn't looking so hot. Besides the airballed 3 he's also **** up the spacing on a few plays by making what look to me like the wrong cuts and taking up space that should be going to the wing. They'd be good cuts if he was playing 3 on 3 but he needs to be more aware of where his guard is.
