And who would you have signed with all that cap space?

Paul Pierce maybe. I mean he signed a two year 11M deal with the Wizards, would he have taken $9.5M for one year here? He has a PO second year, so it's not like he's really committed to Washington, it looks like the FA money dried up for him and he headed to the Wiz for one year $5.5M - would he have chosen here for one year and $9.5M - 4M more for the season?

I think Monroe's going to be in the 6th man of the year running.

He'll be a prime offensive option coming off the bench, playing against guys off the bench who aren't the best defenders on their teams, the Pistons spacing will be about 50x better this season (hyperbole on purpose), Greg is a big time offensive talent, and he's playing for a contract.

Seriously, how could this set up better for him? He ought to thrive this season in this role.

The fact that KCP and Augustin also come off the bench will give that second unit a lot of oomph - again helping maintain the balance, spacing and energy that will help Greg thrive. (It'll also help all the players on the floor). Greg is the definition of a guy who would and is better playing with better talent.

Sounds good. So how much do you think he'll earn himself next summer and do you think he'll sign a contract with the Pistons as our sixth man moving forward?

If he thrives here, then he'll earn a big contract next summer, and, yes, I think there's a real chance he re-signs with us. IMO, the thing he wants to see is that he has a strong future with a team that itself has a strong future.

If he's a breakout player this season, that likely means the team has experienced a strong season under SVG. On a team with a budding elite player (Drummond), and maybe some other fine pieces (including KCP), and an elite coach, it won't be a stretch for players to see that our franchise will have an exciting future.

I think Greg both wants to get paid AND wants to play for a winner and ultimately a contender. It's a big "If" of course, but there's a real chance that'll all come into focus and alignment as the season goes along.

For people who didn't watch the post-game interview with SVG, he defended Singler saying he's really been shooting it well in practice -- believes that he was fatigued given how his shots were consistently falling about a foot short, even from the line.

We know Stan has been running them into the ground to help improve their conditioning and dedication, so that's not that surprising. People shouldn't be writing him off as "done" based off of one game.

According to SVG, Smith/Monroe are starting next game, then Monroe/Drummond after that.

Nice to see that he's exploring everything in game situations. I can understand when coaches allow practice to dictate lineups, but some guys are simply game time studs, and practice flops.

My takeaway from the game

PG:
Its preseason, its one game, but the potential our PG's show is exciting. DJ is exactly the change of pace PG we need to compliment JEnnings. Also it seems that Jennings is buying into this system and made some pretty impressive assist yesterday. It was nice to see our PG's not jacking 3's.

SG:
Meeks is Stuckey , but substitute the handles for a 3point shot. I like meeks, i think he's a player that can impact games. Its so comforting to see that when our big man kick it out from being trapt that a legit 3 point shooter is taking the shot. As far as KCP, he does need to get better defensively, i like that he's not shy about shooting. I think Moose put it perfect, he seems to have caught up with the speed of the game. i do believe we have a superstar SG in KCP, especially if he shoots like that. i do believe SVG's system is geared towards players like KCP

SF:
=(
Butler looked like he was 40, however i do think that he is worth the money we are paying him for veteran presence he brings. In order to close out games, we need experienced players, guys that are comfortable in those situations and guys that we are comfortable in those situations. If he can remain a consistent 3 point threat, i won't have a problem with him gettin bench minutes

Singler looks like singler, i understand the frustration, but i think he'll be fine. We most definitely do not have a starting SF on this team, however we do have a lot of good shooting SF's on this team. Defending the SF position i believe is going to be more of the issue.

PF/C:
JJ is going to be a better form of poop this year. I still think he's goign to have games where he clearly impacts the game with his hustle, but i also think he's not going to be able to do it consistently to dictate more minutes. SVG's system is gear'd towards players like JJ, his playing time will largely be dictated on how well he shoots the ball.

Smith..............he's smith, i am happy he's taking more shots inside the arc, but you can clearly see the bulls were daring him to shoot jump shots. Smiths form also looks worse. I wish they'd show SVG reaction everytime smith jacks a 3

Moose.......I think moose is goign to make us regret not offering him more money, which is a good an bad thing for us. Monroes success is goign to be how confident he is in his jump shot even when its not falling. He's going to be a lot to handle in the low post.

Dre didn't get as many touches as i thought, however i do like to see he's confident, i really think that hook shot is eventually going to lead to him being unstoppable. Once big man have to respect that hook, its going to lead him to other opportunities to score. And dre has the touch to do it. Last night he had to shoot a 3 as the shot clock was expiring, his form actually looked pretty clean. Too bad it was blocked.

of all the things I noticed last night (and I didn't notice much) it really stood out to me how much Drummond ball-watches, both offensively and defensively. he seemed especially slow reacting to defensive rotations.

I really hope that SVG can help Drummond with this, because improving his awareness might be the difference between this team struggling to make the playoffs and being a contender - i'm serious.

I finally watched the game tonight. I saw some things I liked, some not so good. But this is just one preseason game. The team really hasn't been together that long. Some of our lower BBIQ guys may need a few more SVG lessons before it starts to sink in. I still think we're making the playoffs.

Keep in mind, lol, Taj Gibson is a REALLY good defender! I think Smith pretty much couldn't go inside on him and decided to chuck up shots from long twos. Not defending him. But I'd like to see what Smith can do with a person that plays less defense. Again, Taj Gibson isn't some knucklehead. He's a great defender and I love his game. I respect him and it's a pity that he's coming off the bench. SVG will know what to do with Smith. He's a tough case.

Yeah Taj is a beast, I wish we could have him coming off our bench!

That said, most of Smith's jumpers he did not even attempt to get inside, he just settled for a long 2. And, we have problems if Smith simply isn't good enough to play in the post against PFs that can play D.

Is tonights game televised?

All his Post Game interviews are great. Just wait until the team does very badly or very good, he then gets really entertaining. He is passionate and is a straight shooter who will tell it like it is good or bad. The best though is his responses to stupid or redundant questions.

If I do recall in Stan's old systems do rely on lots of jumpers from the PF position. Come to think of it, his PF's were Shard Lewis, Brandon Bass, BBD and Ryan Anderson all of whom either shot mid range 2's or were 3 point specialists. Thus, I hope as Josh gets more comfortable and in game conditioning shape, he will start knocking down 2's at least 42% clip rate.
