Roster moves to come
So, we're going to have quite a few roster moves to make in the next 6 weeks.
Harbaugh apparently confirmed that Lattimore will be activated, so someone has to be released.
Aldon's activation will lead to someone being released.
Bowman being activated will lead to someone being released.
Dorsey being activated will lead to someone being released.
So who are candidates for release.
Josh Johnson is an obvious choice.
DeMarcus Dobbs is a possiblity when we get Dorsey back
Presumably at least one LB gets cut with Aldon and Bowman coming back, but who? Moody would be a candidate, but he's apparently a key cog on ST. The least contributing OLB is Lemonier, but I can't see him getting cut. A CB would be a candidate (Cook? Culliver?) A safety is a candidate (Dahl? Ventrone?)
The other options would be to try to trade someone (a possibility with Lemonier or even Brooks for a 4th or 5th maybe?) or to start putting guys on IR.

Re: Roster moves to come
Josh Johnson like you said.
I'd say Bubba Ventrone is as good as gone pretty soon.
I can't see 'em keeping Dillon Farrell once Marcus Martin or Anthony Davis returns. Is Farrell on the team still? He's on the 49ers.com roster.
When Bowman returns the team has an interesting decision to make. I don't think there's any way the team parts with Brooks this season (I don't think he has any trade value left with his contract and his diminished play). However, both Brooks & Skuta can play ILB. Does that spell the end for Wilhoite when Bowman returns?

Both Davis and Martin are already on the 53 man roster so we wouldn't need to release anyone when they return.
We're looking at needing 3 spots for Lattimore, Bowman, and Dorsey.
Josh Johnson is easily a spot but the reality is by the time these guys are ready to come back the odds are someone will be injured and a spot will free up.
And Dorsey will be an interesting case because right now Williams is playing really well and if that continues you wonder if the team will possibly leave Dorsey on the IR.

Re: Roster moves to come
I'm not sure Lattimore will make the roster... yes they're saying they want him to but who knows with these head honchos. I'll be surprised if they kept Lattimore on the 53.
I also think Dorsey will be left on IR unless something happens at NT.
Tank might as well be on IR with all these **** inactives.
Can Borland go to the practice squad? cause Whilhoite should stay on even if Bowman returns...

Borland to the PS would be crazy IMO. He did not exactly impress in the preseason, but he's still a 3rd-round pick.
And if Dorsey is healthy he's going to be on the roster. It'd be nuts to let him sit when he's able to contribute. He's easily than any of the backups who can fill in at NT currently on the roster.
It's true Lattimore isn't a lock to make the roster. He might have to be willing to play on special teams if he wants to play. He's probably going to just be inactive most of the season if he does make the 53 (unless a RB goes down of course).
And they can't put Tank on IR because he's not injured. Right?

Borland - Idk i'm scavenging around to make room for a healthy Bowman. Whilhoite has played fair to well IMO so as a backup he earns his keep. I can't say that for Borland ATM(and I had him as the eventual starter in Bows absence.
What was Doresey's return, around November? or was it December? he's so far down the road. I guess Dobbs would be the replacement, but what would happen to STs!?!?!?!??!(points at Fangio/Harbs)

Re: Roster moves to come
I hate to think this way, but having several weeks until these guys are likely to be activated, the reality is we've got to see what happens in terms of injuries. There's a fair chance one or two guys could go to IR before we need to activate anyone.
This is how I see the "cut" order, loosely taking into account the players who are returning:
Josh Johnson
Demarcus Dobbs
Dillon Farrell
Nick Moody
Corey Lemonier
Quinton Patton
I know the last two in particular might raise some eyebrows, but Lemonier has had a golden opportunity and has been an afterthought. Brooks' struggles help him, as does his draft position, but he's got to show something. Patton is just a numbers game, but with Lloyd playing well, he's on the bubble. Hopefully we could get him to the PS if it comes to that. Given how bad STs has been, at least at this point I can't see us dropping Ventrone unless we're replacing him with another STs ace.
Re: some of the conversation above, I can't see us dropping Wilhoite. He's a good STs player, and has been very solid starting in place of Bowman. Last year he played well replacing Willis. He's not a game-changer, but he's more than earned his spot. Same goes for Borland, who has been good on STs, and could be projected as a starting ILB at some point.

Re: Roster moves to come
Lattimore getting activated on the roster is going to depend on what he shows in the 3 weeks of practice he has.
If (and it's still a big if) he proves to be 100% healthy and back to what he was in college it'll be hard not to have him on the roster and getting touches since he's actually a more talented back than Hyde is.
Also there is that element of needed to keep Gore's touches to a minimum so he could actually be effective in the playoffs.

Re: Roster moves to come
Keep in mind we still only have 2 capable RBs on this roster. I think the staff is hoping lattimore can be the 3rd back for this year.
I realize they have said Ellington can slide in at RB but that's not the best idea. Who is our practice squad RB? Gaskins?

Yeah, we're really thin at RB, so you've got to think Lattimore has a real shot at the roster if he can prove he's healthy enough for it.

Re: Roster moves to come
This is setting up for a nice opportunity for him to get his feet wet with around 5 carries per game to spell Gore in the second half of the season when he needs all the rest he can possibly get. Would be nice to get a nice blowout going in one of those games so we can pull Gore and let Hyde and Latt give a preview of next year.

Re: Roster moves to come
So as the discussion continued I think everyone forgot about a guy we will be adding in 3 weeks and a roster move will need to be made. No one talked about Aldon. Given that he's the one guy not coming back from an injury, it's safe to assume he will be activated asap (I also believe he would have to be activated as soon as the suspension is over).
I imagine we'll see some guys going to IR that aren't actually injured, or injured badly enough to warrant missing the season.
This is the flaw with the approach of drafting injured players.
I expect all 4 of the guys we're getting back to be on the 53 man.
Farrell likely goes to the PS, trying to get Borland there is a huge risk that I don't think we take.
Moody likely gets cut or IR'ed
Patton could be in trouble, which wouldn't bother me at all as I think he's very replaceable in any draft.
I feel like an OLB is in trouble, but I don't know who it would be. It would have to be Lemonier, and I don't know if we would let him go.
Lattimore goes to the 53 man, and quite possibly to the 46 for RB depth.
Also, odds are Kassim Osgood gets cut and brought back at some point.

Farrel, Dobbs should've been gone before season started, Ventrone , Moody or Cook. I'd say someone goes to IR.
