Wait where did I say a team had to be an all out running team? I said teams today need to be able to run. That 5 that Scott is going to trot out there ain't good enough defensively to be successful playing a "controlled paced basketball".
Yeah you did say teams need to be able to run. Playing controlled pace ball is more than just defense man. It's a lot of intricate things that make it happen. Defensively they don't have to be a shut down group, no team in the NBA is.

Most teams have one cover guy, the Lakers are putting Wes Johnson in that role. It's a role I think he can excel in. I will admit Nash with that unit cripples the defense, he can't stay with his man so it would require help from the weak side too much.

As for the running aspect, this team reminds me of the 2007-08 team, the uptempo came from the second unit that was deadly and often extended leads or brought the team back from deficits.

But this team is more than capable of playing controlled pace ball, it starts with rebounding. And they can get out on the push if they can force TO's. It's a fine balance on how it works but it's not impossible for this team to play that style.

I would rather see Lin with the starters, but it would weaken the 2nd unit with Nash there.

The bold is basically what I was getting at with my first post. I think the guys that are more apt to playing a style of basketball that would play to Lin strengths are the guys that are on the second unit so that's probably why Lin may have not played an exciting game the other night.

There were strange rotations the other night because it was preseason anyway. Typically if he starts he'd have his opportunities to push the ball when guys like Randle and Davis came off the bench.

All I was getting at was you guys are going to have to push the ball at times with the younger guys because those are the ways you guys will be getting those precious low impact easy buckets that I believe all teams need.

And because I know y'all are a little apprehensive of an influx of troll posters, Lin fans, double agent Lin fans  etc etc.. I'm a 41 year old Knick fan who has been watching basketball for over 25 years and I'm a basketball junkie that just likes to talk basketball and I like Lin's story and there are sentimental reasons why I still follow him. Most of my friends because I live out west now are Laker fans so I get along with Laker fans because I understand them. So I'll be watching and following your team closely and I hope you guys do good this year.

Speaking of.. the PnR defense the other night was really shaky. On that sequence particularly Hill has got to show way quicker than he did.

Team is looking good.

I really liked how Byron left the reserves in for a whole quarter to play against the GSW Starting five. Even though they lost ground and got tapped handily, it was good experience for them, and will teach them how to get better as a group.

I'd like to see Byron start the reserves in the first quarter in another preseason game down the road as another test.

Kobe still commands double in the post. This tells us that we need shooters to take full advantage of the inside/out game when we are using Kobe in this way. I feel Ellington and Nash need to be out there with Kobe. Ellington needs to be a spot up three point shooter for this team IMO.
