Are we overhyping the rookies?

Post#1 » by shuttleworthjs » Sun Oct 12, 2014 4:45 am

I see some people already saying Napier is better than Chalmers, Ennis better than Granger blah blah blah. I understand the excitement, but this is just preseason, where rookies are given chance to play against players on similar levels. My hunch is after the real season starts, Ennis and Napier would barely have a game nearly as nice as this one. Remember the Norris Cole hype? When it comes down to it, Wade and Bosh have to be better than Lebron and Love to win the east. Rookies are not the saviors.

I would pick a kid down the street to replace chalmers if i could... not srs.

But in all fairness, isn't that the point? To be excited by the young youth we got?

Ennis and Nampier, especially Ennis are showing tremendous signs of great players in the making... and I think the Norris cole logic is fair but Chalmers, I will compare him to a D-league player If I must.

I do remember the Cole hype

Cole though I thought lived up to it. He defended the quick PGs Rio couldn't handle, would be great energy off the bench, hit 3s, etc. Both him and Rio sucked last year however, and it looks like Cole doesn't have much room for improvement. Still great defensively, but in terms of what this team needs, as in another play maker, Napier is that and I don't think there is any deny in that.

Its true about the level of competition, but Ennis I think is the real deal. He just needs to sharpen up and that comes with experience. Napier for one I noticed isn't a bonehead. This kid is smart and knows how to set up his teammates. Even when Napier was having bad shooting nights, which was often, he still affected the game with his playmaking skills. You can't really say that with rio or Cole, which is why people are saying Napier is better than them both. Napier is undersized tho, but he can still steal and defends fine.

Also Granger had absolutely no lift. Ennis is super athletic... He definitely is better Granger. The Granger we have is not Indiana Granger its "trying to make a name for myself again" Granger lol

Also Ennis has been consistent... Very consistent. Even back to summer league he is scoring double digits a night.

I mean we will see but when was the last time 2 rookies were making impacts like this. Preseason or not I like their competitiveness and making games entertaining. Napier and Ennis 2 clutch games in a row and it's fun as hell to watch

Napier, to a certain extent, yes. He has shown tons of promise but has been inconsistent and looked like a rookie at times. I'm not sure he's ready to get significant minutes yet in a normal rotation but our PG situation is pretty dire so it'll be trial by fire.

Ennis, on the other hand, has looked fantastic pretty much every time we've seen him. He has an NBA skillset already and I'd be shocked if he doesn't become a major fixture in our rotation.

I've never wanted to punch someone in the face so badly. Really hoping to run into him at a game one day. I won't hesitate.

No I don't think our board is overhyping them much. Maybe just a bit.

Rio and Cole are the worst PG rotation in the NBA. It doesn't take a supreme talent to overtake them. I think Nappier is showing he can be better then both. the more he gets used to the NBA the more we'll hate that Rio contract. It stll drives me crazy, NO IDEA WHY the **** did we give Rio 8 Mil for 2 years. Napier can become a nice, good PG with a skillset we need - scoring, creating, running the offense. A REAL PG.

About Ennis, he just looks ready. Same with Rio and Nappier, the more you see Ennis ball the more you hate the Granger contract. Ennis is already the overall better player IMO (defense, rebounding and athlthlisicm are big for us). And the gap will only grow bigger once James gets more experience. He needs to get THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF MINUTES FROM DAY 1, in order to help him reach his full potential as quickly as possible.

If Spo buries Ennis (the future) behind Granger (the past, and a RENTEL), I'm coming for Spo's head. No holding back.
