Preseason Game #3: Pistons @ Wizards

Post#1 » by whitehops » Sun Oct 12, 2014 12:00 am

it's on tomorrow (Sunday) at 1 PM EST.

the pistons are 2-0 so far this preseason, the wizards are 2-1.

injuries to note: josh smith is dealing with minor hamstring soreness, he may/may not play and meeks might this game as well if his back spasms are still acting up. beal is out for 1-2 months with a fractured bone in his left hand so both teams might be missing some firepower. perfect time to see the role players that will make important (even if limited) contributions throughout the year!

discuss away!

Things that make you go hmmmm....

Josh Smith's first scheduled game to come off the bench and he's injured and can't play.

I say good - more time for Jerebko and maybe Thabeet or Mitchell gets some burn as well.

No Bradley Beal obviously for the Wizards after he fractured his wrist.

he might play and same with meeks, all I know is that they didn't practice today because of their injuries.

More excited for SVG's post-game conference than the game. In fact I think we should just wire him and let him replace our play by play and color analysts entirely. All you need is to pay 1 guy $8 an hour to hit the "bleep" button like 10,000 times a game.

Few things to keep our eyes on.

1. Jennings continuing to dish out assists and limiting his turnovers 14-1 so far.
Also to see how he defends against Wall.
BJ has been pretty good early.

2. Can KCP keep up his scoring and efficiency from the field? Can he defend without fouling?
He's thrown the gauntlet down to Meeks already.

3. Drumroe should be starting this game, how will they go against another big forward line in Gortat and Nene when surrounded by shooters.
Does the addition of the outside threat open up the interior as Stan planned?

4. Can our SF's start to hit a shot or two? Who is going to grab hold of that starting spot?

5. Does Will Bynum make it onto the court after being injured?

6. How does Smoove play coming off the bench?
Very curious how this will go. Hoping he has an impressive game actually.

7. Can they actually win 3 in a row?? Pre-season not withstanding, winning breeds can confidence.

SVG cuts clips together of every defensive possession Smith takes off over the first two games, and suddenly his groin is sore? Right when he was coming off the bench too? Amazing coincidence.

I don't think the honeymoon between SVG and Smith is going to last very long. Smith has a storied history of clashing with every coach he's had. SVG is definitely the most imposing coach he's had to date. This could get interesting, but also significantly shorten Smith's time in Detroit.

Lol, I love SVG , he doesn't play around. That said, I just can't see Smith quitting on SVG this soon.

I think people are grasping at straws to rip on Smith. He knew full well that he was scheduled to come off the bench today and NOT because that will be the regular rotation. He knows SVG is just experimenting. Taking games off would just hurt his chances of starting. People said the same crap about Jennings when he came off the bench. People just need to stop making stuff up and accusing those guys. They've been model citizens thus far and it's not surprising that some guys are getting bumps and bruises after all the work they've put in in training camp. If Smith starts becoming a malcontent then we can start criticizing him but doing it now is far too premature and completely unfounded.

A groin injury is perfectly valid. These guys haven't been playing competitive 5 on 5 for months (Except Andre). I'll hold out hope.
